Crimson Tide (1995)

I don't know where this ranks as one of Denzel Washington's best movies, but I love it. Maybe it's just the Navy guy and me, but I love this movie.

I was a surface sailor, not a Submariner, so not everything translates, but most of it does. I sure as hell do miss being onboard ship. The acting in this movie is superb from everyone. The tone, the military bearing, the tension. Old school versus new School.

There is nothing about this movie not to like

Scream 7

PRAISE: Even after 30 years and 7 movies i still hoped that new life could be breathed into this franchise and hey they brought back Neve Campbell as Sidney Evans after she was MIA from the 6th movie. This time around a Ghostface killer targets Sidney Prescott's daughter.
There's some fun to be had while watching this movie. The most fun was watching an obnoxious character be taken out in a brutal way. There are some good laughs especially from Courteney Cox as Gale Weathers who delivers some salty lines of dialogue. There are a good amount of kills and interesting falls. I liked the blink and you will miss them nods to previous films. It was interesting to see how much AI was played up in the movie especially after this months reveal of how AI is getting even better that sent a controversial shockwave through Hollywood. Its crazy that Ethan Embry could portray the late great Harvey Pekar in another biopic if someone wanted to do so.

PROBLEMS: There's a lot that doesn't add up or make a lot of sense. With so much information out there about Sidney its questionable about why she behaves in a certain way? A deep dive wasn't done even if Sidney is guarded about her blood soaked past? Its all public information !! I don't understand why horror movies of late think that offscreen kills are a great thing....this is a slasher horror movie !! Some characters are given nothing to do and it shows when they dissappear for 30 to 40 minutes. There's nothing supernatural in the Scream universe so how people survive certain stabbings and bullet wounds is beyond me. Some stand out predictable moments pop up. The explanation at the end was weak and unsatisfying. I could go on but I don't want to.

Scream 7 come on down… you took a great fan theory and fucked it right in the ass and didn’t even say thank you.. the is Stu alive theory… they tempted everyone and than said fuck you… worse ghost face reveal ever.. when you see it you gonna be like it was even worse than you could ever think… I thought of it but said no way and they did… bunch of useless characters that was just there to die.. no reason to care for them no reason to live.. couple of brutal murders but it didn’t make up for you to care that this movie exist… scream 2 and 4 still might be the worse movies to me but part 7 said hey you might want to add me to your top 3 bad list… fuck this movie… it goes scream 1 than scream 3.. you could watch those 2 and skip the other 5 and you wouldn’t miss nothing

Father Mother Sister Brother

PRAISE: Its been awhile since I've watched a musician.Jim Jarmusch movie and this movie is a very good path to start watching them again. I think he perfectly captures the strain and awkwardness of not talking to a close relative for awhile. With all of the uncomfortable moments and just going down the checklist of oh what have you been up to? How are the kids? Are you seeing anyone? Its also amusing when he displays how guarded people are even to the ones we love. The cast including Tom Waits as Father; Adam Driver as Jeff ; "Mother" · Cate Blanchett as Timothea; Vicky Krieps as Lilith ; "Sister Brother" · Indya Moore as Skye. There's a connection of minds and blood ties but how much do we really know about our families and i liked Jarmusch plays with all of the aforementioned. Then theres the disconnect in which you can't be honest because you think a relative may be to judgemental about what's happening and what's not happening in your life. Jarmusch also includes when its far to late and when unforseen occurrences get in the way of getting to know a close relative and its very effective.

PROBLEMS: At times i felt the movie gets lost in being to quiet coupled with some sleepy and then some moments.

Ensign Pulver
1964

5/10

My DVR is programmed to record anything for actor Al Freeman Jr. It recorded this film last month from Turner Classic Movies (TCM). I watched it last night at home.

This is the sequel to the classic film ‘Mister Roberts’ starring Henry Fonda. I had seen that film before and remember what it was about, so I didn’t need to rewatch it. I never heard of this film, so I was curious to watch it.

Roberts is not in this film, he had gotten his transfer off the ship. Three main characters from the first film return, except they have been recast.

The premise is still similar to the first with the Captain still being a prick and made no changes with his behavior after the events of the first film.

Comedy is tongue-in-cheek, nothing hilarious. The film is full of recognizable actors who later became famous in film/TV from the 1970s and after. Some of non-speaking roles.

For the Thirsty, actress Millie Perkins is a ‘clone’ of legendary actress Elizabeth Taylor from the era.

The film overall doesn’t hold up to the first, but it is enjoyable.

Synopsis

The film folllows Ensign Pulver, the titular character (Robert Walker Jr.) on a WWII cargo ship, the USS Reluctant, as he continues to clash with the tyrannical Captain Morton (Burl Ives)

The Woman in the Yard
2025

4.5/10

I watched this last night at home on Prime.

Not much to say about it. It’s basically a psychological/thriller with predictable suspense.

Not too spoil it, but I pretty much figured out who the ‘Woman In The Yard’ was immediately after her debut meeting the main character. I debated about finishing the film, but decided to watch it in case there was a big unexpected twist.

It has a twist, but it isn’t exciting.

For the Thirsty, Danielle Deadwyler is the main character. I have seen her in two prior productions and she always looks like shit. And she looks like shit in this film. There is one flash back scene with her dolled up and I was impressed. I plan on watching other stuff she is in hopefully in the near future.

The overall premise isn’t anything new. Nothing for violence. No nudity.

Synopsis

Danielle Deadwyler as a grieving widow whose life is upended by a mysterious, spectral woman in black who appears on her lawn, warning her to protect her children from an unseen evil.

Watched this one a few days ago. Enjoyed the story of friendship, loss, grief, etc. It was on my radar since I enjoyed June Squibb a few years back in the comedy 'Thelma' about the phone scam ...

War Machine
2026

6.5/10

I watched this flick tonight at home on Netflix.

I went into not expecting much, but it actually played out pretty well.

The first 30 minutes is main character introduction/development. After that it slowly moves into SHTF stage.

The War Machine looks pretty decent. It looks like a ‘Decepticon’. It’s pretty ruthless and heavily armed. It’s dedicated in how it operates similar to that Robot Dog Drone in ‘Black Mirror’.

VFX/SFX looks good. Suspense is done welll and has good intensity. The film has a slight similarity to the classic Arnold Schwarzenegger ‘Predator’.

The film somewhat leaves off for a sequel, but I doubt it will happen with how it ends.

Overall, it’s an entertaining film, the premise is nothing new being it’s an alien invasion film, but it’s done well.

Synopsis

Alan Ritchson as a combat engineer whose final Army Ranger training exercise becomes a fight for survival against a giant, otherworldly robotic enemy.
