Iran, with good reason, neither respects nor trusts the U.S. enough to have direct talks, because they already know, based on real, recent history that this Administration is a diplomatic sham.
They send intermediaries from another country to meet at a neutral location for the U.S., unlike when Iran meets directly to chop it up for deals with China, Russia, etc.
Its interesting how some folks on here think the U.S. is respected because they summoned a carrier, which is basically a sitting duck in current warfare.
