MOVIES ~ Any of ya'll seen any good (or shitty) movies in recent weeks/months? Post reviews, feedback, movie news, trailers, recommendations, etc ...

Saw this movie on a VOD rental in a California hotel back in the late-80s as a kid. Mom ordered pizza with us on a Disneyland trip we were on.

Side note - loved the small, subtle nod to Rain Man in season 2 of MO. There's a scene in particular wherein he's sitting outside with his brother on a bench that I picked up on, and played back to appreciate.

Omar Elba as Sameer Najjar, Mo's brother

"In the A24/Netflix series, Mo, Elba plays Sameer, an autistic character who has trouble fitting in. In preparation for the role, he worked meticulously with a behavioral therapist studying specific autistic patients at great length. His nuanced portrayal of autism received rave reviews, most notably from family and caregivers of members of the autism community."

If I Had Leg's I Would Kick You

PRAISE: This movie about mother hood and the pile ons of life will definitely be traumatizing for some and a reflection of the viewers life because we can all relate to being pushed to the edge as soon as we step out into the world. Trying to care for a sick child, a home literally falling apart,an absentee spouse and trying to have a career are on full display. I definitely felt something for Linda portrayed greatly by Rose Byrne as she deals with the aforementioned and several annoying to ultra obnoxious characters she's forced to deal with. Director and writer Mary Bronstein knows how to put the audience in the shoes of Linda as the movie leans into stop the world i want to get off mode several times. Is anyone listening to me or respecting everything I'm going through? Does anyone care? So many darkly comedic scenes and the transition scenes are sometimes stomach churning. Even trying to obtain the most simple things in life can be a chore and then some and it walks hand in hand with anxiety of course a person is going to space out here and there.

PROBLEMS: Definitely some repetitiveness I could have done without. The pacing could have been better in several scenes.

Scale of 1 to 10 a 7½

Thanks for the review. I haven't seen it yet, but I included this movie on my mom's flashdrive update a few days ago ^

Watched Die My Love yesterday and can recommend it.

Good cast performances (limited number of people) and excellent job from Jennifer Lawrence, as expected. She's consistently good / great in everything, so it's a pleasure to see her craft - particularly with difficult roles / serious subject matter.

The music / score was effective too in that we picked up on the songs which were pleasantly upbeat / optimistic, despite that not being the mood of the film. It was a good stark contrast at times.

Die My Love is a 2025 American psychological drama film directed by Lynne Ramsay, and written by Enda Walsh, Ramsay, and Alice Birch, based on the 2012 novel Die, My Love by Ariana Harwicz. The film stars Jennifer Lawrence as Grace, a young mother in rural Montana grappling with severe postpartum depression and psychosis that unravels her marriage to husband Jackson (Robert Pattinson) and her grip on reality. The supporting cast includes LaKeith Stanfield, Nick Nolte, and Sissy Spacek.

Die My Love had its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival on May 17, 2025, where it was nominated for the Palme d'Or. It received generally positive reviews from critics, with praise for Lawrence's performance and Ramsey's directing. At the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, Lawrence was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama.

It was theatrically released in the United States by Mubi on November 7, 2025 and is Ramsay's highest grossing film as of December 2025.

Deranged
Tales from the Mikeside: Deranged
2023

4/10

This film came up in my tubi recommendations after watching the series ‘Demarcus’.

I watched it last night on the road on tubi.

The film is a psychological thriller revolving around lucid dreams. I went into it thinking it was gonna be something like ‘Inception’, but it barely comes close to that premise.

It’s a slow burn film that runs over 2 hours. About 45 minutes could have been edited down and the film still would make sense. It’s a low-budget Hood film which somewhat brings it down being a number of actors couldn’t act to save their lives.

The premise has been done over the decades, but those projects generally have an all White cast with one ‘Token Black Person’ in it. Being this film generally has an all Black cast, it’s what makes it interesting.

The first 30min is a heavy slow burn introducing the main character with a lot of talk. I was tempted to turn it off, but around the 30min mark, the main character’s wife makes a couple of comments which got me back interested in the film.

From there, the film continues into a real slow burn. There is a twist around the last 30 minutes of the film which somewhat saves the film and makes the earlier parts of the film make sense. Without spoiling it, the twist is somewhat revealed during the point you see in the trailer with the blonde in the red leotard.

Like I stated earlier, it’s a Hood film. It probably would have been better if it had a decent budget and better actors. If you looking for projects made by Blacks and primarily starring Blacks, you will enjoy it.

Synopsis

A dream researcher finds worlds of trouble when he gets lost in his own experiments. Based on true events.

Credit to actors like Daniel Radcliffe and Robert Pattinson. They have varied their careers over the years, and avoided getting type-cast after the international success of the Harry Potter and Twilight franchises respectively.

Normal
Official Teaser Trailer
Debuts April 17, 2025

The latest collaboration between Bob Odenkirk, JOHN WICK creator Derek Kolstad and NOBODY producer Marc Provissiero, director Ben Wheatley’s (FREE FIRE, HIGH RISE) kinetic neo-Western stars Odenkirk as an unassuming substitute sheriff with a troubled past who, after moving to a small, sleepy town, responds to a bank robbery and unknowingly uncovers something far more explosive.

For Sheriff Ulysses (Odenkirk), his provisional posting to the quaint Midwestern American town of Normal was meant to be a welcome respite from both his marital woes and recent moral injuries in the line of duty. But when a botched bank robbery interrupts the municipality’s tranquil pace, a dark secret is inadvertently exposed, and Ulysses soon discovers that the town is anything but its namesake.

Don't know how many of yall have been watching this on PBS, but it's been pretty good and this guy breaksdown all these people butthurt of it being "Woke...no, it's history :hmm::rolleyes2:

Currently on episode 2...been looking forward to this...Ken Burns is an excellent documentarian and hes been working for 10 years on this project..

He's not covering up anything...and indigenous people, black people are covered extensively in this because in his words you can't tell this story without including us, the indigenous, women etc.

Im not surprised that the hillbilly horde is outraged by this...these CAC Knuckle dragging Neanderthals can't stand any story that's not completely centered on them.

Filmed in my mom's home province of Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Side note - the 1st Nobody movie was partly filmed there. 2nd Nobody was filmed there.

Derek Kolstad had written a script for Normal prior to filming the 2021 film Nobody, and while working on that film together, he and Bob Odenkirk discussed the project and decided it would make for another good collaboration between the two. The script had action, but also Hitchcockian crime-thriller and mystery elements.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_(2025_film)#cite_note-2"><span>[</span>2<span>]</span></a> Kolstad and Odenkirk further developed the story to the final screenplay,<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_(2025_film)#cite_note-Filming-3"><span>[</span>3<span>]</span></a><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_(2025_film)#cite_note-4"><span>[</span>4<span>]</span></a> and the project was taken to the 2024 European Film Market, packaged with Ben Wheatley directing and Odenkirk starring.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_(2025_film)#cite_note-5"><span>[</span>5<span>]</span></a>

Principal photography began on October 21, 2024 in Winnipeg with a cast reported in November 2024 that also includes Henry Winkler, Lena Headey, Ryan Allen, Billy MacLellan, Brendan Fletcher, Peter Shinkoda, and Jess McLeod.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_(2025_film)#cite_note-Filming-3"><span>[</span>3<span>]</span></a> Harry Gregson-Williams and Ryder McNair composed the score for the film.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Normal_(2025_film)#cite_note-6"><span>[</span>6<span>]</span></a>

The Greatest Beer Run Ever.

So a beer drinking merchant marine in New York supports the Viet Nam war and the troops fighting it. He thinks Viet Nam war protestors are unpatriotic, and that the press is doing a disservice in the way they are covering the war. So one night while drinking and talking shit he decides to go to Viet Nam and give his buddies from the block who are over there fighting some beer to support and thank them.

He uses his connections as a merchant marine to get there. Because he's over there in civilian clothes people in the military think he's C.I.A. and help him to get around. Needless to say once he's in country he sees the war from a different perspective. His opinion on the war and the way the press covers it changes, especially when he sees how the military lies.

I really enjoyed this movie. It's listed as a comedy but it's really more of a drama. It's based on a true story. I highly recommend this movie and would rate it a 8..75 out of 10.
