Dinner For A Few: Animated Film About Capitalism and Resources

Capitalism isn't the problem.

If I make the world's greatest cell phone capitalism drives you to make one that's better and cheaper to capture my market share. Then I make a better one than you and so on. This drives technology and society forward.

The problem occurs when the competition becomes so heated it's more profitable for me to shut down your innovation then innovate. Or when I destroy the environment and spit on people's human rights to get ahead. Or when we join together and bribe the government (aka lobby) to keep new players or outside industries from threatening our collective market share.

It's a bit like football. In order to know which teams and players are the best you need a level playing field, ironclad rules, and impartial officials.

America's capitalism is like a muddy turf with land mines at midfield, blind officials stuffing their pockets with money and rules that change mid game.

That's all inherent to capitalism.

I like JD and watch his channel now and then. He brings up an interesting point about balanced representation of political thought, but he doesn't really get into the difference between left and right ideology here.

In all fairness he's probably gone in depth in past videos, but this idea that you can be self-employed or own a business and still be anti-capitalist is wild!

Like when I talk to a potential client I offer a service unique or better than the other DJs so I can get the business instead of them. Same as the local grocery store, dry cleaner, restaurant, even the guy who shines shoes at the bus station. How is that NOT capitalism?

your example is not capitalisim....
the example would still hold true in socialisim etc

overly simplified - capitalisim is profits over everything - social good / public well being, national loyalty, even long term sustainability of a company

a capitalist system insists on economic growth - if you arent growing - you are dying

@PsiBorg this is a great allegory

the United States has police, fire department, library, schools, and post office. All social goods which don't turn profits. Doesn't that defy your definition of capitalism?

first 2 - the prioritiy is to protect property not people

next 2 - in their current forms are gifts from Andrew Carnegie to enable a docile workforce (Future Shock by Alvin Toffler )

Yes there are -soon to be gone - projects for social good (social safety nets) mainly thanks to FDR and LBJ admins

People are allowed to own property in both capitalism and socialism so where's the disconnect?
