I never knew what happened to Terence Trent D'Arby - Now I know.

The name change thing. Like he's trans or some shit.

Maybe he mentioned it, but I missed it. Had to skip through the interview.

nah. the name change was him trying to distance himself from the TTD persona which he felt was controlled or toxic. I forget which maybe both.

Anyway dude stay getting the puss. he had affairs with folks wives and shit. kids too.

Yea, his music, persona was all owned by his label. So he fought with them and got out of his contract. The new name came to him in a dream.

Thanks for clearing that up.....lol

As soon as he said "fuck soul" and "I don't want to be known as a black artist", I saw what kind of identity shit he was on. You can't tell the black community "fuck you" and turn right around and refuse to kiss white asses. He's right where he put himself. On the outside, bitterly looking in.

THIS. Especially since they already relegated his music to urban stations. Instead of just being happy that your art is being played, he had a hissy fit about where it was played. Meanwhile, THE SAME YEAR, George Michael's "ONE MORE TRY" was also being played on "urban" radio and Michael leaned into it and was grateful.

Same with Lisa Stanfield two years later. She didn't set out with US "urban" stations being targeted but when it happened she was just grateful people listened. She still talks about how well she was received by Black Americans and how she's appreciative.

I thought he was homeboy from Star Trek like tv show ,the only black character on that show.

Prince said it and did it but you have to have prince fans and you can say and do whatever and no one will care.
I liked that wishing well joint but I ain't calling you no Samanda or whatever name you go by now.

He was dope back in the day then it felt he disappeared....., ig would have helped him back then.

In this clip, he said "I didn't want to be a Black artist," I understand what he meant, but he said it all wrong.
