UPDATE: Donald Trump Takes Office as the 47th US President

I was wondering what gave Musk Rat the boot.

Elon Musk is leaving his role in the Trump administration

Elon Musk, a key adviser to President Donald Trump who oversaw the U.S. DOGE Service, said Wednesday that he is leaving the administration after leading a contentious effort to reshape the federal bureaucracy and slash government spending.

Musk wrote on his social media platform, X, that his “scheduled time” as a special government employee had come to an end.

A day earlier, in a major break with the president and Republicans, Musk said he did not approve of Trump’s major spending bill — officially known as the One Big Beautiful Bill — with its massive tax cuts.

“I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not just decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing,” Musk said in an interview with CBS News.

In an interview this week, Musk said his efforts to cut the size of the federal government proved far tougher than he had expected.

“The federal bureaucracy situation is much worse than I realized,” he said. “I thought there were problems, but it sure is an uphill battle trying to improve things in D.C., to say the least.”

He's been saying this for a while now. Until they stop traveling together and he stops going to all the same events, this is doubtful. Once he's gone all the agencies will have to check for back doors into all the systems and then there is still all the damage left in his wake like gutted agencies and loss of expertise. There are still people declared dead by DOGE fighting to get their benefits back.

The US economy contracted -0.2% in the first quarter, according to revised data out today. (The initial estimate was -0.3%)

-->Consumer spending was a bit weaker than initially thought. That's a warning sign.
-->Investment was a bit strong as businesses beefed up equipment purchases ahead of tariffs. That won't last

But the big story was Trump's tariffs and how they distorted so much, even before "Liberation Day."
