A post apocalyptic sci-fi show was a smash hit a decade ago, and it's a smash hit in 2024, too -thanks to an enthusiastic army of Facebook users.
Hit TV show The 100, set 97 years after a nuclear war destroyed civilization, has been given a new lease of life after fans hailed it a 'masterpiece' in the highly influential Netflix BangersFacebook group.
Originally broadcast on the American network The CW from 2014, all seven seasons of the series are currently streaming on Netflix but are scheduled to be withdrawn from the platform on December 8 next year.
Zubwair Parwan created the post, saying "I was so indecisive to watch the 100 for months but finally I started it. I didn't know I could watch a TV show for ten hours straight!" And Zubwair is far from the only fan swooning, with fellow user LaTarius Elliot posting: "One of the best shows ever, they really Float people".
Based on the book series of the same name by Kass Morgan, The 100 is a gripping sci-fi drama set in a post-apocalyptic world where Earth has been ravaged by nuclear war, forcing humanity to seek refuge in space aboard a massive space station known as the Ark. As resources dwindle, authorities send 100 juvenile delinquents down to Earth to determine if the planet is habitable once again. Led by Clarke Griffin, the group discovers that Earth is far from empty; it's filled with dangerous radiation, mutated creatures, and rival factions of survivors.
As the teens struggle to survive in this unforgiving new world, they encounter challenges that force them to question their morals and alliances. Along the way, they form bonds, make enemies, and grapple with the complexities of leadership, love, and sacrifice. Meanwhile, tensions escalate on the Ark as power struggles and secrets threaten to tear the fragile society apart.
As the series progresses, the characters face increasingly difficult choices as they navigate the morally gray landscape of survival. Themes of morality, identity, and the consequences of humanity's actions echo throughout the series, making The 100 a thrilling and thought-provoking exploration of what it means to be human in the face of adversity.
'I was left speechless and in tears'
Boasting a superb 93 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a highly respectable 7.6 on IMDB, fans have been keen to proclaim their love for the series.
Destiny_west posted on IMDB: "I don't know why I waited so long to watch The 100. I guess from previews it really did not look like it would be my cup of tea. However from the first episode I have been binge watching it! From episode one I was completely addicted."
Kpzbps said: "Let me tell you ... this is the best sci-fi dystopian show ever!
Robinmosley: "This series has good and likeable characters, a cool and unique style and really, I mean really good moments you shouldn't miss. I totally enjoy watching it. I would recommend it. Binge-worthy."
Lapratho: "What a ride! I was left speechless and in tears after finishing my over-a-week-long binge The 100".
Shopaholic35: "The 100 is a mix between The Hunger Games and Star-Crossed. It's your typical sci-fi teen drama with an apocalyptic end of the world theme. What's not to love Send a bunch of young adult criminals on a mission with no guidance or structure and you end up with a Lord of the Flies situation."
Markwalter: "I missed this first time round but watched it for about ten hours in a row -it's brilliant!"
The 100 is currently streaming on Netflix
