Don't know Sevendust could be considered a "black" group.
The lead singer is black.
The song is called Black. This song is me.
I loved the album Seasons.
Voices call, they call out my name, (my name, my name)
They say I'm different well I'm not the same (the same)
You say you want to be like me
Well boy let me tell you,
You don't know what I've seen
They say the devil lives in my soul
I promise not to let him take control
I'm minding my own business
I ain't doing nothing wrong
I ain't doing nothing wrong
Shadows follow so close behind me
I look in the mirror I don't like what I see
Oh God, can't you help me get out of here? (here)
I feel like I'm living deep in hell
I'm minding my own business
I ain't doing nothing wrong
I'm minding my own business
I ain't doing nothing wrong
I'm minding,
I'm minding my own
I ain't doing nothing wrong
I ain't doing nothing wrong
Nothing wrong
I used to watch Cult of Personality every time it came on MTV. They were a good band but I only heard about two cuts from them. Then there was Fishbone, Bad Brains (D.C. Black Punk Band), etc. I do think Black Rock and Roll bands deserve to be embraced by us much more. We started the damn genre!!!
I really don't care for either. Kid rock is a closeted racist and eminem made a song bashing black women. Eminem became lame to me over time. Eminem was a successful gimmick. When he blew almost every body rushed out the door to get a white rapper on their label. The only white rappers I'll ever respect is the beastie boys and Mac miller (r.i.p) because he was himself on the mic and wasn't trying to be black he brought his own style and raped about the things he related to.
Sometimes it's impossible to tell the Kid Rocks from the Eminems... difficult at least. Both seem authentic. But obviously one is, and one isn't. How do you differentiate between the two?
Kid Rock would sell you out for $10 and a handshake from Trump. As far as I know, Eminem hasn't sold us out and continues to rock with black people like we are actually his family
what does that even mean?? they PLAYED MUSIC... what more do you want??What did they do to reach out and endear themselves to black people?

I had the same reaction when I read that, like WTF?
And on a side note, I've seen more Black people at some of their live concerts (Living Colour and Lenny Kravitz) than at some hip hop shows. Always had a blast seeing them live.
If you don't know what I mean, then it's not for you.
I'm wondering why are you complaining 20-30 years later. What did you do in the moment? People have to gain their fanbase, they aren't given it.
I seen them like 5-6 times over the 90s..I had the same reaction when I read that, like WTF?

Em grew up dirt poor and rapped about trailer trash trama. He grew up in a trailer park blocks away from Detroit across 8 mile. Kim and his mom ain't people you really want in your life. Bob grew up well off in a rural area and is the son of a Cadillac Dealer. Big difference.I really don't care for either. Kid rock is a closeted racist and eminem made a song bashing black women. I supported black music thru the late 80s 90s and early 2ks.If you don't know what I mean, then it's not for you.

They’ve been committed to our causes. Numerous times they’ve made anti-white supremacy songs.What did they do to reach out and endear themselves to black people?
I seen them like 5-6 times over the 90s..![]()
They’ve been committed to our causes. Numerous times they’ve made anti-white supremacy songs.
In 2016, they did a benefit concert for Black Lives Matter in Chicago and I sat and talked with them about corrupt policing, un-prosecuted brutality and murder against Black folks by police and related issues for an hour before the show, and then again afterwards. They had a lot to say both in that convo and onstage.
They’re good, intelligent conscious Brothas, 100% down with the cause.
You didn't beg hard enough and kiss their ass when they were at the top of their game, or God forbid didn't offer to pay them to appear on your show.(Sighs) I’m beginning to get pissed off at these grown ass men and their bullshit about not being accepted by Black media. I have worked in radio for 30 years and I have played Black rock on the air. I have reached out to Living Colour too many times to mention. Crickets. What pisses me off is they won’t talk to me but will talk to a White podcaster/journalist. And as much as I love Living Colour, they have not had a hit since the Clinton Administration. A lot of people see them as One Hit Wonders. If these niggas are going to piss and moan about lack of representation in Black media, it might help if they actually took the time to talk to Black media.
Absolutely. They and Lenny Kravitz are only continuing the dialogue that Little Richard started. Keeping alive the fact that we are at the heart of Rock and Roll. Without us there would be none.About the same for me. Seem them about half a dozen times, once in the 90s and multiple times in the 2000's.
Fam, I'm convinced that some just like to hear themselves talk with the "did they reach out and endear themselves to Black people" comment. LC talked about racism, redlining, and police brutality before it became "mainstream cool" to do so. Discussing such topics and honestly addressing the racism side of the industry, when answering a question, is "complaining"How rich.
Drums and percussion are the same thing and acoustics come from Africa. This type of music is from the 1200's.You want to reach the four types of people, you have to play music they can relate to..............
Black= drums
Hispanic= percussions
Chinks= melodic (harp, flute)
Honkeys= acoustics
Thats right, it's primarily Steve Washington and his wife. Steve continues what he did in slave and Aurra with a heavier pFunk and rock leaning. The album is a collectors dream of heavyweight Funk and sociopolitical message. Deliberately allowing each track to breathe and speak its truth, instead of catering to radio. Even tho ironically I first heard this album whilst in a radio station in the 80's, looking thru a box of albums. I pulled this album out saw Steve washington's name in the credits and its been one of my essential albums ever since.Good stuff. I never heard of this group...thought it was Slave at first (especially with Drac talking on it), then researched and saw that it's comprised of members of Slave.
Sidenote: So many of Slave's core members died fairly young!
No doubt that they are.Thats right, it's primarily Steve Washington and his wife. Steve continues what he did in slave and Aurra with a heavier pFunk and rock leaning. Slave and Mtume are very, very important bands, both for themselves and what sprung from them.
what youre saying is kind of heartbreaking because what you're really expressing is that black people as a group not only disregard rock music but consciously reject it and don't recognize it as anything relevant to us.They didn't invite you to "Black Girls Rock" neither. Dont see you going after Tracy Ellis Ross or all the purple haired black girls who like white guys and dont support your music.
Cameo, Prince, Michael Jackson, and even no talent Milli Vanili all dressed like rock in roll stars to get on MTV. They were considered pop stars because they had a black sound.
I don't know why a Rap Show would have a rock segment when the pool of talent was so small and didn't have a lot of black fans. It's hard to cater to you when you aren't marketing yourself to black people. This is almost like a K Pop Band being upset they aren't nominated at the BET awards.
Lenny and Living Colour don't really seem to have a point. They want black praise for being successful in a white world. No one is hating their success but I'm wondering why do you need black adoration when you didn't cater to black crowds.
It must be 50 years fellas. We went from "Rap is a fad" to the highest grossing genre ever. Only in America. You ain't made it until you get sued. Now these hoe ass niggas wanna be like "Meetoo". Naw niggas, y'all wanted white pussy and white fans. Y'all gave only so many fucks about black fans.what youre saying is kind of heartbreaking because what you're really expressing is that black people as a group not only disregard rock music but consciously reject it and don't recognize it as anything relevant to us.
Youre not even aware but youre attitude and many others on here actually agree and cosign Jann Wenner when he said:
Rolling Stone magazine co-founder Jann Wenner justified the lack of diversity in his upcoming book, The Masters—which exclusively features interviews from white, male musicians—by claiming Black artists “just didn’t articulate at that level.” Wenner told The New York Times in an interview published Friday that it wasn’t a “deliberate” selection of musicians, but instead it was “intuitive over the years.” “The people had to meet a couple criteria, but it was just kind of my personal interest and love of them,” Wenner said. As for why he didn’t interview any women, he said, “Just none of them were as articulate enough on this intellectual level.” He added, “Of Black artists—you know, Stevie Wonder, genius, right? I suppose when you use a word as broad as ‘masters,’ the fault is using that word. Maybe Marvin Gaye, or Curtis Mayfield? I mean, they just didn’t articulate at that level.”
Now dont get insulted he said it...he disregards Black musicians in the world of Rock music in favor of whites who "articulate it better" and you disregrad them because Lenny and Living Colour don't really seem to have a point. They want black praise for being successful in a white world.
So a white man plays them off and you reject them because you think what they do is something that whites like....meanwhile theyre just playing music their people CREATED in the first place. They are literally practicing their CULTURE and you all believe theyre wrong for being disappointed and hurt that not only are they rejected by their own people but Blacks as a group don't even recognize that what those musicians are doing has anything to do with them at all.
