TV SHOWS / SERIES - Seen any good ones lately? Please feel free to post reviews / feedback / trailers / articles / TV news / all that shit ...

@playahaitian

Glad you are liking season 2 of The Bear. Isn’t it wild how you often hear about the sophomoric slump (?) in entertainment, yet The Bear s2 was killing it. Solid character development and some of the best eps of TV all year. Any genre. Very impressive.

@ViCiouS

Saved season 1 of Mr. Inbetween for my mom. She is currently enjoying it in her rotation of shows with her boyfriend. She loves that balance of family stuff with the daughter and brother, the criminal world involvement, and the group therapy / mandated support group meetings and shit. The cheeky, malicious smile Ray gets, lol.

I told her what I really found impressive was as a writer-creator of the character, he’s not a seasoned or polished actor. But he’s very believable in the role. Unassuming in stature, but still rough around the edges enough.
The centrepiece — a tense flashback episode set during a fateful Berzatto Christmas — was a masterclass in tragicomic storytelling and (hopefully) a reminder of your own family’s relative sanity.

If you made it through that ordeal, you were rewarded with Cousin Richie’s redemption, in which Ebon Moss-Bachrach gave the year’s standout small-screen performance.

Episodes 6 and 7 definitely delivered.

I remember finishing #6 and thinking they nailed it with the claustrophobic feel of some of those kitchen scenes, and of course the intensity at the dinner table.

All caught up with The Curse. The show is at its best when Emma Stone is fake nice and passive aggressive / confronting people with micro aggression(s). Really enjoyed watching her body language and "face acting" during the home viewing scenes while the cameras were rolling. The young woman doing the house tour / viewing was great too. Or talking (Emma Stone) with the neighbor(s), etc. The show is still a very slow burn, but interesting ...

Gangs of Oslo was awful

Thanks for the info. I hadn't heard of this one.

Sly on Netflix

Documentaries are Always great when i hear it straight from the person it's about.
Success ,family and failures are talked about in depth by Sylvester Stallone . I knew he had a relationship with his father that was full of turmoil but I didn't know how deeply rooted and severe it was. When your anonymity as a person fades away overnight and you realize that your life is forever changed definitely has its impacts.

Archie on Britbox

Jason Isaacs definitely has Cary Grant's mannerisms down in this biopic series that is fortunately backed by his last wife Dyan Cannon and their daughter Jennifer who after all these years I just discovered she was in several episodes of Beverly Hills 90210.
I'm enjoying it so far as the show displays his life out of order from a sad childhood to his rise to fame. The fact that he loved food so much was a revelation. Some of the characterizations of different icons in Hollywood are spot on others....not so much. I'm looking forward to the next two episodes.

Agreed. I was disappointed

I checked out of this series after 2nd ep but went to theatre to see Emma Stone in Poor Things yesterday, she should have her 2nd Oscar as best lead actress coming in

Glad to hear it. Yeah - I've been hearing the good buzz about Poor Things. The reviewers / critics have noted they're impressed by the choices she makes with her work. Doesn't get herself pigeon-holed with only following certain genres or archetypes / roles.

In regards to The Curse ... yeah ... it's definitely an odd watch. Still not quite sure where they're going with it, and that's part of the intrigue. Still can't say I'd recommend it either. They would really have to finish it with a number of WTF moments for me to recommend it to friends and family like - "Yeah, it's worth waiting for near the end" ...

Mr. InBetween
Season 1

Watched this last night on Hulu.

First, the series is definitely connected to the movie I recently reviewed “The Magician” in the movie thread. The maincharacter Ray Shoesmith is the name of both characters.

The movie is all about Ray in his criminal life. The series deals with his criminal life and with him trying to keep his criminal life separate from his personal life.

It’s a dark comedy but it’s not LOL funny. It’s on the same level as “Fargo”.

I went into the series thinking the episodes were one hour long, it turns out they are only 30 minutes long. It’s why I was able to binge the first season at one sitting cuz it was like watching a 3 hour movie. The first season only has 6 episodes.

If you are a fan of “The Sopranos” and “Breaking Bad”, you will definitely enjoy this series. If you looking for something to watch until new content comes due to the Hollywood strikes, this will definitely do.

Episodes 1 to 3 is a somewhat slow burn being it’s introducing supporting characters and Ray’s personal life, it picks up at Episode 4.

Season 2 has 11 episodes and I expect to get them completed by Friday. Season 3 has 9 episodes and hopefully knock them out this weekend.

I looked into it and Scott Ryan made the decision to make Season 3 the final season cuz he felt he did all he needed to do with the character. He is open for future spinoffs or movies bringing back the character as a supporting character in future projects.

Looking forward to finishing this series.

Synopsis

"Mr Inbetween" is a half-hour comedy series inspired by the cult film "The Magician" and centers around Ray Shoesmith. Juggling a relationship, parental responsibilities, friendships and a sick brother while earning a living would be difficult for anyone, but it's particularly difficult for Ray since he's a criminal for hire. Ray "takes care of people" -- collecting debts, relieving them of drugs and guns, and often taking care of them on a more permanent basis. Ray demands respect and does not tolerate it when someone disregards his very clear code of ethics.

Great series and recommendation from the BGOL fam' in recent years. Watched it with my pops over the course of a few months.

Saved season 1 for my mom recently and she really enjoyed it with her boyfriend. They are 73 and 76 respectively. I am going to save seasons 2 and 3 for her for next year. She's also been enjoying Hijack, Reservation Dogs, and a few other shows.
