Mr. InBetween
Season 1

Watched this last night on Hulu.

First, the series is definitely connected to the movie I recently reviewed “The Magician” in the movie thread. The maincharacter Ray Shoesmith is the name of both characters.

The movie is all about Ray in his criminal life. The series deals with his criminal life and with him trying to keep his criminal life separate from his personal life.

It’s a dark comedy but it’s not LOL funny. It’s on the same level as “Fargo”.

I went into the series thinking the episodes were one hour long, it turns out they are only 30 minutes long. It’s why I was able to binge the first season at one sitting cuz it was like watching a 3 hour movie. The first season only has 6 episodes.

If you are a fan of “The Sopranos” and “Breaking Bad”, you will definitely enjoy this series. If you looking for something to watch until new content comes due to the Hollywood strikes, this will definitely do.

Episodes 1 to 3 is a somewhat slow burn being it’s introducing supporting characters and Ray’s personal life, it picks up at Episode 4.

Season 2 has 11 episodes and I expect to get them completed by Friday. Season 3 has 9 episodes and hopefully knock them out this weekend.

I looked into it and Scott Ryan made the decision to make Season 3 the final season cuz he felt he did all he needed to do with the character. He is open for future spinoffs or movies bringing back the character as a supporting character in future projects.

Looking forward to finishing this series.

Synopsis

"Mr Inbetween" is a half-hour comedy series inspired by the cult film "The Magician" and centers around Ray Shoesmith. Juggling a relationship, parental responsibilities, friendships and a sick brother while earning a living would be difficult for anyone, but it's particularly difficult for Ray since he's a criminal for hire. Ray "takes care of people" -- collecting debts, relieving them of drugs and guns, and often taking care of them on a more permanent basis. Ray demands respect and does not tolerate it when someone disregards his very clear code of ethics.

Definitely look to complete it eventually, Playa. It's pretty consistent start to finish. The lead definitely has a real vibe on camera, especially as a non-polished actor. Sort of unassuming as well.

Enjoyed watching his interactions with his daughter, brother, best friend, boss, the criminals, etc.

This show deserved 7 seasons IMO

Crime on Britbox

Dougray Scott is great in this series as a Detective dealing with all types of trauma and trying to recover from drug and alcohol addiction. The addition of the other characters being off balance when it comes to sex and trauma makes the whodunits in the series even more involving.

Albert Brooks : Defending your Life

From his unique and truthful stand up routines, making his own films laced with his own personal messages about life. The losses in his life and taking on heavy dramatic roles later in life this documentary has so many revelations about his life and career. Funny and dramatic just like life.

Season 2

Finished these last night.

The season went strong focusing on Ray’s criminal life and less on his personal life.

He did have to go into anger management for busting up that mofo who talked smacked to him and his daughter in season one.

That cute girlfriend left him cuz of his anger.

Ray went hardcore on them mofos that kidnapped Dirk’s daughter, that is a scene they should have fully shown.

Hoping to get season 3 wrapped up tomorrow.:16:
