Whoopi Goldberg said Millennials who can't afford a home are lazy and only want to work 4 hours which isn't enough to afford a house!

I'm going back in the days
60s 70s
Maybe not McDonald's but regular ass jobs
Ok. Cool. But i want you to follow along with me if you gonna quote me.
I clearly said fast food. I was specific for a reason.
There are people who are working at fast food restaurants and want to get paid top dollar without even putting in work.
They want to buy LV and Gucci and are in jobs that cannot support that.
Whoopi is commenting on the entitlement of the younger generation.
She is not wrong.

Again, I don't understand how she is facing backlash from people in here when she aint even talking about yall!!!

Yall old niggas be crazy.

The cost of living has gone up
Prices have gone up
Executive salary pay has gone up
The price of labor has to go up
Workers pay hasn't kept pace with Executive pay

Everyday, my list of black celebrities that I once admired is getting smaller and smaller.

That’s all I have to say.

The cost of living has gone up
Prices have gone up
Executive salary pay has gone up
The price of labor has to go up
Workers pay hasn't kept pace with Executive pay
This is all correct, but the point is younger generations don't want to work hard to earn a living. Most are entitled or depressed that they can't live the lives like everyone on social media who are selling illusions. I believe this aligns more with her point and don't believe she would dispute all the arguments here about livable wages and such.

I like the young generation because they haven't been beaten down and brain washed by work yet. They don't have the responsibilities/bills that make them stay or take bullshit from jobs that older people have to swallow their pride and have to put up with.
I like when they don't give 2 weeks notice when they quit. When the job fires you they don't give you a 2 week heads up.
I like pushing the work from home thing too.
If the job can be done from home why not?
Oh because someone will lose money on building/office leases lol

You know a "bunch"? How many exactly. Because to make a great living working 4 hours is rare and unrealistic.
True, I'm saying I'm not going to discount the fact that there are folks making money doing nothing but filning every move they make or showing ass online from the comfort of thier own home/apt. That will continue to grow. But yeah, thats still not going to cut it for the average social media person.

While I get this, it doesn't leave room for them to complain when they don't want to do the the things necessary to earn a living. We have all had to conform in some way in life whether boss or employee.

It's all cause and effect in my opinion, but I was raised to go make my own life. Complaining about how things are without the ability to change things isn't a pass to sit still. It doesn't apply to all but kids are more entitled and spoiled than ever. Maybe that's just my experience/opinion but that go get it gene is dying out.

I've seen articles about older folks not being able to retire due to having to care for/support their adult offspring.

Like I said, I get it, but they can't complain or put a hand out when they're struggling by not putting forth the effort to earn a livable wage. They haven't earned the right or have the scars to feel like they should do less so soon. They're coming out the womb like this. This is also why I think families or the concept of families will die out.

That's what washed up, has been celebrities do... say some far out, unpopular shit and it starts people talking about it. These people do it all the time. Staying in the news cycle.

Fuck that fat bish!

This is also why kids are still living with their parents into their 30's and burdening them to work well into their retirement years. Bump that, you have to stand on your own at some point.

She is talking about people who have no work ethic and only want to work 4 hours per day.
What about them? What she is specifically referring to. Should they think they can buy a house?

She is talking about young kids who work in fast food but want to be paid $40.00/hr.

Then they get upset when the boss tells them not to come to work late.

Then they want a tip from customers when they didn't provide exceptional customer service.
Don't get me started on tardiness, work ethic whenever they do eventually arrive , cellphone use, or that customer service is a thing of the past.

Then they should work 60 hours a week or get a second job. It's called sacrifice and it's not a new concept. If you put in the effort in most cases you'll gain the rewards.

Nah man, it some places it would literally be impossible to work enough hours per week. And this is just to rent, not own.

Other folks would have to work MORE than two jobs for a 1 bedroom apartment. This is definitely not normal.

hell they won't even be able to afford to stay in an apartment working 4 hours a day..................let alone afford to buy a house.
i dont know nann bank thats bout to give them a loan and they only work 4 hours a day.

she-aint-lying-talks.gif

Some of this new generation will tell you they don't want to work 40 hr. weeks like their parents but want the spoils without the work. A whole lot of them still live at home with mom paying their bills.

No
Having a place to live isn't a reward
Yes the fuck it is. You got to work hard. In order to reap that reward as well.

Would I like for everyone to have at least a room? Of course.

But this ain’t a dystopian universe where that is possible. You don’t work, you don’t live.

And that shit is oh fucking Kay. It’s time for them to grow up.

Anyone that works should be able to have a place to live.
You shouldn't have to work 60 hours or multiple jobs for the bare necessities.
Too much corporate greed in this country

Don’t disagree with the thought. Just speaks to something that is not reality, unfortunately.

All that younger people need to realize that you more than likely will not be rich by 25. You are going to have to hustle and learn to survive. Working 4 hours a day and complaining or having thin skin ain’t gonna save you.

Hopefully it happens before it’s too late for them.

Bullshit , Seattle minus wage is $18.69, if you work 103 hours a week that’s $7700 a month FOH

She's just got the basic Boomer mentality. "I did it! Why can't you?" However it's also ignoring how much the world has changed.

You could pay for college by working a summer job in the 70s. There were a such thing as starter homes back then and you weren't competing with people buying homes to rent then on Airbnb. The dollar was a lot stronger too. Hell, accounting for inflation the average home in 1975 was $134k less than it is now.

I don't blame a lot of younger people saying that they don't want to work for someone that doesn't give a shit about them, because they probably saw how their Gen X parents got fucked over for their sacrifices. It isn't about trying to get something for nothing, it's about trying to work smarter to get ahead because the idea that you are rewarded for loyalty and sacrifice hasn't been true for probably the last 25 years. Use them, like they use you, and you'll get ahead, not because some boss is going to notice you one day and give you a chance.

Read the PDF on the SF article. They are going by the Fair Market Rent for a 2bdr in the state and following the rule that housing and utilities shouldn't be more than 30% of your income. In the case of Washington, that would be $5,080 a month or $60,966/year. For Seattle, that would be a minimum of $6,108 a month or $73,300/year Could you pay for a 2bdr in Washington on Seattle minimum wage? Yes, but that's half of your earnings so saving is going to be a challenge.

Whoopi right as fuck. We want to talk about that quiet quitting shit, but want houses like your parents had. Shit don't work like that. It's why a lot of times older employees working beside muhfuckas fresh outta school don't get along. There are fewer of them that know how to hustle and endure struggle to have it get greater later.

Parents bought houses for like 40k
Same house is like 600k

You may not be saving but you ain’t on the street. As you are working you can figure out how to “right-size” your finances and lifestyle and hopefully jump to higher paying job and keep climbing.

Brand new employees trying to wear the best clothes, drive the best cars and think they’re entitled to premium shit without having figured their life out yet. Fuck that.

They also lived on 800 a month (or less) with only one person working. Shit happens. We know it’s out of whack, but young people should not be giving up. There are ways to make
Money out here so you have skin in the game. Waiting for people to just cater to you Ain’t it.

Or maybe they will be the generation that changes shit for the better instead of putting their head down and working like a mule

That's not really true. You can buy a tiny house for less than that. You could buy some land and out a trailer on that bitch until you get your weight up. It really too many folks on that "we ain't got no options" shit. You got options. You might not like them, but that's why you keep grinding.

Old heads have that "I walked 5 miles uphill in snow to school" mentality.
Who the fuck wants to work so hard and so many hours while life passes you by?

Possible, but not probable.

Could be just me but I find this younger generation to be way more fucked yo than before. Don’t see them putting there nose to the grindstone for that change.

I actually met a young person TODAY who didn’t know who MLK was. That should tell you how they view Struggle and fighting for change.
