TV Biz: Amazon to Bring Commercials Into Prime Video

@gene cisco @ViCiouS @blackbull1970
Say man, I think I mentioned this to you. We got Amazon prime, yet we prefer downloads to actually watching the service. My ol' lady said ads been on it and she can't stand it. She used to be able to use it, but when I mentioned it earlier she said it was unusable to her. :smh:

Plus navigating all the service/movie selling on the interface is a terrible experience.

All streamers are moving to this model since streaming by itself is only profitable under the old Netflix model of using established content leased on the low and flooding a new market.

Remember how I showed you how subscriber numbers are inflated through offers that people don't even know they have(even using myself as an example)? Well, those subscriber numbers help trick shareholders but also serve the purpose of attracting adverstising. Advertisers give no fucks if those are paid or not paid. All they want is the eyes. Checkmate consumers.

Yes you did

That's why I sent you that article in case you needed some evidence to prove to any doubters

It's still insane how now streaming is MORE EXPENSIVE than cable after we ALL thought it was gonna be the savior.

I gotta give myself am audit to see what EXACTLY I'm paying for every month

Along with that audit check to see if you getting anything for free you not aware of. You might be surprised. I was.

I think more deals might be coming to flood subscribers to platforms since the race for ad revenue is officially on. They can't even pretend no more. It will be a latch ditch attempt for SOME CEOs to save face on the streaming business model.

Think it's bad now, I'm from the future where
You have to watch a movie to make the commercials stop.
And they don't stop when you unplug the TV.

Streaming is less expensive than cable.. how much is an nfl package? I pay nothing thanks to free99… how much will the fight on the 30th will cost on cable? I will pay nothing and still see it.. Netflix, appletv, max, movies in theatres all are free.. blue beetle got a clear copy on free99 and it’s still in theatres.. if you have the internet and streaming and paying more than cable than you doing the internet wrong

Amazon Prime is trash now, every video I click they try to up-sell you to buy or rent. It's tricky now. I don't even try to watch Amazon Prime anymore.

I haven't run across any commercials for Prime Video for actual "prime" content yet. The info/ads for other shows on the platform that run at the beginning of a show or movie can be skipped. There is some free content on other channels they carry that may be free with ads, like some imdb stuff, but those aren't showsnor movies with the blue prime logo.

I think under settings I had disabled the auto playing of trailers, tho. Those were annoying as hell. I don't know why they bother me when Netflix trailers don't.

When I saw this the other day it pissed me off. Initially I only had Prime video because I have Prime for shopping, but now I probably watch it more than other video streaming and it's the only one I've actually purchased content on. I have other channels like britbox and allblk through them. If they start charging more to keep it ad free, I'd probably do it, but I'd get rid of the extra channels I don't watch as much.

No ads on my Plex server

I haven't used prime video in years... or any of the services I pay/paid for. I'm dropping Disney next. Acquire programming, put it all in Plex so whenever I want to see something I know where it is. Next month I'm getting 10GB symmetrical internet... I can't even use all that bandwidth, but I'll die trying

Amazon Advertising Revenue Soars to $12B in Q3 Earnings Beat

Amazon smashed Wall Street expectations in its Q3 earnings report, delivering $143.1 billion in total revenue, and net income of $9.9 billion.

But of particular note to the entertainment industry, Amazon says that its advertising business continues to be a major revenue driver, topping $12 billion in the quarter, up 26% from a year ago. Amazon’s ad business includes Freevee and Thursday Night Football, among other programming, and it will be bringing ads to the core Prime Video service early next year.

The ad business also includes ads for products that are sold through the Amazon marketplace, which make up the bulk of that business line.

The company also highlighted its work in the generative AI space, a hot topic among all tech companies this earnings season.

Amazon follows Google owner Alphabet, Facebook and Instagram owner Meta, and Snap in having a blowout quarter that beat Wall Street forecasts. While the digital advertising market seems strong, the market for ads from traditional entertainment companies still appears tough.

“We had a strong third quarter as our cost to serve and speed of delivery in our Stores business took another step forward, our AWS growth continued to stabilize, our Advertising revenue grew robustly, and overall operating income and free cash flow rose significantly,” said Andy Jassy, Amazon’s CEO. “The AWS team continues to innovate and deliver at a rapid clip, particularly in generative AI, where the combination of our custom AI chips, Amazon Bedrock being the easiest and most flexible way to build and deploy generative AI applications, and our coding companion (CodeWhisperer) allowing enterprises to have the equivalent of an experienced engineer who understands all of their proprietary code is driving momentum with customers, including adidas, Booking.com, GoDaddy, LexisNexis, Merck, Royal Philips, and United Airlines, all of whom are starting to run generative AI workloads on AWS.”

Amazon, of course, is a behemoth, with its online retail business joining AWS as core parts of the company, joined by Prime, which includes its video and entertainment divisions.

In the earnings report, Amazon specifically called out the hot start for its NFL Thursday Night Football coverage (ratings up 25% from a year ago) as well as The Summer I Turned Pretty, and new launches for Prime Video Channels in overseas markets.

Amazon is paying $100 million to broadcast the NFL's first-ever Black Friday game.

But it's really a chess move to steal market share from brick-and-mortar stores and generate online sales.

Let me explain

Thanksgiving Day football has always been huge.

Last year's games averaged 33.5 million viewers, including 42 million viewers for the Cowboys vs. Giants — the most-watched regular season game of all time.

2022 Average Viewership

• NBA Christmas Day: 4.27 million

• NFL Thanksgiving Day: 33.5 million

But the NFL has never done a Black Friday game because 1) it's a holiday known for people leaving the house to go shopping and 2) the Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 prohibits NFL games on Fridays after 6 pm ET and all day on Saturdays during the fall.

This rule was implemented by Congress to protect high school and college football from seeing a decline in attendance and viewership because of the NFL.

But Amazon offered the NFL $100 million for the game, so they decided to put it at 3 pm ET to skirt the rule.

And it's an even better deal for Amazon.

Amazon is allowing anyone to watch — Amazon's first TNF broadcast generated more Prime sign-ups than any other 3-hour window in company history — and Amazon is also reportedly charging 2x more than their TNF broadcast for 30-second ad placements.

Cost Of A 30-Second Commercial

• Thursday Night Football: $440,000

• Black Friday: $880,000

But more importantly, Amazon will leverage its new ad strategy called "audience-based creative."

This will enable brands to target different audience segments with different ads in the same time slot.

For example, according to Ad Age, Bose will show three different ads using Amazon's ad technology.

The first ad features Joe Burrow and will be delivered to non-Prime members, while the other two Bose ads will feature different products and be shown only to Prime members based on their Amazon Prime search history.

And here's the best part...

These targeted ads will also be shoppable, meaning viewers can watch the commercial, place the product in their cart with the click of a button, and checkout without ever leaving the broadcast.

That makes Amazon's broadcast far more valuable than a typical commercial — brands will be able to retarget these customers after the game — and it also gives us a view into how brand advertising could look in the future.

Companies like Amazon and Apple are only going to spend more money on live sports rights, and their ad targeting could change how brands market forever.

Now that's pretty damn cool.

The Jets being without Aaron Rodgers is a big blow

I bet a lot of people won't watch, because the Jets stink
