Uber Eats to start accepting food stamps

Uber Eats announced Wednesday that its app will eventually allow you to use food stamps and flexible spending accounts for food orders and fresh groceries.

Uber Eats said that it is working to offer SNAP recipients the ability to use their benefits in order to get “fresh groceries conveniently” from the Uber Eats app next year.

The company will be joining Amazon and Instacart in making shopping online or through apps more accessible, according to Bloomberg.

Starting next year, according to Bloomberg, those who use the U.S. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program will be able to order food and other groceries from the Uber Eats app.

We know that online food delivery can have a meaningful impact in reducing barriers to fresh groceries, especially for the most vulnerable–including people living in food deserts, seniors, and those facing disabilities or transportation barriers,” Uber Eats said.

The company is also working Managed Medicaid and Medicare Advantage plans that will allow flexible spending accounts cards, Flex cards and state waiver payments be used to order food, Bloomberg reported.

“This is yet another way we are simplifying how people can access healthy foods and connect with their local grocers in new ways,” Uber Eats said.

Interesting...

I'm torn because the food is so marked up?

I don't think it's worth it.
It's not, but I remember saying years ago that these big corporations were a part of the food stamp lobby and folks were crickets. Big business LOVES the food stamp program. When they try to limit the food choices, their true colors were exposed.

It's always important to follow the dollars to have a complete understanding of things.

I hear you

But Amazon Fresh accepting food stamps was a real good thing for a lot of people in some cases. I'm talking more middle class working poor etc And food deserts are real then add on gentrification? This whole thing is a mess

and I gotta give you your props

you were one of the first to be skeptical of big businesses getting into social issues on all levels. We GOTTA stop.looking for these corporations to have a conscience We need to make the penalties for doing f*ck sh*t crippling to them instead.

Of course it's a good thing Amazon accepts food stamps. Same with other forms of shipping/delivery from stores like Target that didn't.

All I am saying is it's always best to follow the dollars. Because not following the dollars leads to delusions. Most people don't know about all the profit tied to the food stamp program. So when they want other things done and these things don't get done, they end up disappointed. But if they followed the dollars they'd know why some things won't ever get done and some things will.

Better yet, they can find out how big business can profit from certain things and advocate for it that way instead of pushing because it is the 'right thing'. Dollars always talk. And like you said with Amazon fresh, can make great things happen.

I'll never trust Uber delivering my food.

But yeah, there's gonna a lot of poor people using that shit like crazy and Uber drivers will have a lot of work since there's a lot of people out there that are on food stamps.

A lot of these food shipping an delivering services are about to start accepting them. They see the opportunity to get a piece of the action, and they want in.
It’s only smart to open up a demographic of millions of possible new consumers that bring some type of financial benefit to your biz
