First GOP Debate 8/23- DeSantis PAC Debate Strategy Exposed

The Catcher In The Rye

This is a fascinating look at the DeSantis strategy for next week's debate...

Ron DeSantis needs “to take a sledgehammer” to Vivek Ramaswamy, the political newcomer who is rising in the polls. He should “defend Donald Trump” when Chris Christie inevitably attacks the former president. And he needs to “attack Joe Biden and the media” no less than three to five times.
A firm associated with the super PAC that has effectively taken over Mr. DeSantis’s presidential campaign posted online hundreds of pages of blunt advice, research memos and internal polling in early nominating states to guide the Florida governor ahead of the high-stakes Republican presidential debate next Wednesday in Milwaukee.
The trove of documents provides an extraordinary glimpse into the thinking of the DeSantis operation about a debate the candidate’s advisers see as crucial.
“There are four basic must-dos,” one of the memos urges Mr. DeSantis, whom the document refers to as “GRD.”
“1. Attack Joe Biden and the media 3-5 times. 2. State GRD’s positive vision 2-3 times. 3. Hammer Vivek Ramaswamy in a response. 4. Defend Donald Trump in absentia in response to a Chris Christie attack.”
The documents were posted this week on the website of Axiom Strategies, the company owned by Jeff Roe, the chief strategist of Mr. DeSantis’s super PAC, Never Back Down.
...
Notably missing from the debate materials is a document focused on Mr. Trump, who has been attacking Mr. DeSantis mercilessly for months.
...
To that end, the memo lists “potential Orchestra Pit Moments,” beginning with one drama-making opportunity, complete with a recommendation for a Trump-style insult: “Take a sledgehammer to Vivek Ramaswamy: ‘Fake Vivek’ Or ‘Vivek the Fake.’”
Related documents — one runs nearly 5,000 words across 17 pages — show that the DeSantis operation advises portraying Mr. Ramaswamy as an inauthentic conservative.
Internal polling contained in the trove of documents shows Mr. Ramaswamy surging in New Hampshire, which may have inspired the attack line. Mr. Ramaswamy was at 1 percent in New Hampshire in April but rose to 11 percent in an early August survey, according to the documents.

Dude is so done his PAC is advising him to defend Donald Trump and "hammer Vivek Ramaswamy"!!!

It's fast and quick suicide for black people to support Republicans.

But it is slow suicide for black people to blindly support Democrats.

The problem is the two-party system. We have no leverage.

I think the realistic solution is influencing Democratic primaries to get better Democrats. Because, while I hate "vote blue no matter who," shitty ass Biden is 100x better than Trump or DeSantis. The next shitty Democrat will be 100x better than the 2028 Republican. We have to force Democrats to be better and stop supporting corporate-backed shills.

That stupid Indian scum was on CNN talking about he will pardon Trump his first day in office and a bunch of other double talk. He’s a fucking scum bag

Can't wait to apply this to Trump and DeSantis but we can safely serenade Vivek:

Could have played this the moment he launched his campaign.

WHAT EACH CANDIDATE NEEDS TO DO
  • DeSantis has the most to lose (or gain). With Trump skipping out, he’s the top target for other Republicans, and he’ll need to reassure donors and voters that despite some punishing news cycles lately, they shouldn’t count him out. One thing to watch: he must be careful not to parrot the talking points laid out in his super PAC’s debate strategy, lest other rivals mock him for being a puppet. (Remember Christie’s evisceration of MARCO RUBIO in 2016?)
  • Ramaswamy must show that he’s not just floating on a sugar high from recent polling. He’ll also have to prove that he isn’t simply in the race to help Trump — a suggestion he has denied. And he better have good answers to accusations that he has flip-flopped on a number of issues.
  • Pence comes to the stage with the most relevant debate experience, having gone up one-on-one in VP debates against TIM KAINE and KAMALA HARRIS in 2016 and 2020. His challenge will be finding a way to stand out and find momentum.
  • Haley faces the same challenge. Despite making more stops in early states than any other candidate, she has yet to see a sustained polling bump. As the lone woman on the debate stage, she’ll have a key opportunity to stand out and make an impression.
  • Christie has been salivating at the opportunity to take a shot at Trump on the debate stage. But his challenge will be the audience members (both in person and at home), whom he must convince that it’s time to move away from Trump — no small task, considering the former president’s poll numbers. But Christie is a sharp-tongued, skilled TV persona, and if anyone can do it, it’s him.
  • Scott, who has risen in the polls, has yet to see attacks from his rivals. Our colleagues note that he would do best to “coast” through the debate. But remember: Some of his rivals have been keeping oppo files on him (we wrote about this a while back). He may not be able to avoid their aim for much longer, and he’ll have to be ready.
