The NBA has a policy and rules a player must follow when they sign that NBA contract which is why he's gonna get a suspension.
This has nothing to do with him being treated like a criminal when he isn't in jail nor going to court for a crime.

The games itself isn't the real story, because of the new CBA you have to play at least 65 games to be considered for any off-season awards. He at best can only play 57 so that's no MVP, DEF or OFF player of the year and probably no first team all nba. If you count last year he's cost himself over 150mil
The Grizzlies will probably treat it as an "unofficial injury" since they seem to play well without him. All,they have to do is win 10-13 games out those 25 games and start moving up the standings when he's back.
I wouldn't have suspended him the whole season but he would have missed at least 50 games to make an example out of him,the team and the league.
