Dark Winds
2022

6/10

I started watching this a couple of weeks ago knocking out an episode here and there. I had DVR the episodes a couple months ago when they were on the regular amc channel.

It’s an interesting dark, crime thriller series that somewhat taps into some supernatural stuff.

The series does a low key depiction of Native American life in the US in the 1970s without being preachy.

There are just 6 episodes in season one. It’s not really a binge watch series. Recommend taking your time to soak in.

Season 2 debuts on amc+ July 30, 2023

Thanks for your review. Yes - we enjoyed this series last year, and thanks for the intel about season 2 premiering in 2 months.

We've been a fan of Zahn McClarnon's work over the years from his time on season 2 of Fargo, and the first 2 seasons of Reservation Dogs (which returns for season 3 in August).

Checked out the Barry series finale yesterday.

Pretty good overall. Some scenes worked better than others.

Credit to Bill Hader and company for the series on the whole. Thought it was solid from start to finish, and he's proven himself as a director. I'd definitely recommend the series for anyone looking for a quick watch. Just looking at the Wikipedia now ... it ran for 4 seasons from March 2018 - May 2023. The episodes range from 26 - 34 minutes, and only 8 eps per season. So you can quickly watch half a season in the length of a movie.

If I remember correctly, we started checking out the show in late-2020 and quickly got caught up and were able to watch seasons 3 and 4 in 2022 / 2023 in real-time.

@blackbull1970

Here's the great character Zahn McClarnon (from Dark Winds) played in season 2 of Fargo. One of our fave seasons of TV in the past decade. Great list of names in the cast ...

Yeah, Fargo is on my list to watch. I just haven’t got around to watching it.

It’s saved on Hulu.

He also co-stars in “Reservation Dogs” on Hulu.

I believe he is too debut in the MCU in the future around the character Echo or possibly along with Thunderbird if he debuts with the X-Men.

Thanks for the intel re: MCU.

Yes - his role on Reservation Dogs is a nice contrast to his work on Fargo.

Definitely recommend Fargo ... all of the seasons have been good. Large casts for every season ... well acted ... and it's interesting to piece together the timelines and see where stories overlap. Glancing at Wiki now - the first season is set in 2006 - 2007, 2nd season = 1979, 3rd = 2010 - 2011, and 4th season = 1950 - 1951.

The Baby
2022

5/10

This is a limited series that came last year and I got around to watching it this afternoon on MAX (formerly HBO MAX).

It’s a dark comedy horror series. It’s also a slow burn series that somewhat deals with issues of motherhood that isn’t preachy.

The origin of the baby is shown in episode 5, I’m not going to go into detail to spoil it.

For the InCells, this series is produced, written and mainly directed by women. There is no male bashing, but the series is somewhat done from a female POV.

For the Gay Agenda trackers, lots of Lesbians in it. Basically all is shown is kissing and embracing. For lovers of Lesbians, none of them are worth getting excited over to look at.

For the Militants, there is some interracial with BM/WW and between a number of lesbians.

There are 8 episodes that run about 20 minutes each. I looked it up and HBO has no plans on continuing it, even though the series ended for a possible continuation.

Synopsis

Natasha is furious that her closest friends are all having babies, but her life implodes when she unexpectedly ends up with a baby of her own. Controlling, manipulative, but incredibly cute, the baby twists Natasha's life into a surreal horror show.

She soon discovers the true extent of the baby's deadly nature and makes increasingly desperate attempts to get rid of it. Making things creepier is Mrs. Eaves, the 70-year-old enigma who has spent the last 50 years living out of her car and seems to be everywhere the baby is. Natasha doesn't want a baby, but the baby definitely wants her.

Alec Trebec:
  • After a successful season last year, this season was mediocre throughout, with a misleading flash of promise near the finish before falling apart at the end. The two-timeline strategy worked last year but it was a mess this year!

Acceptable Jeopardy answers:

  • What is Yellowjackets?

Fatal Attraction finale

I enjoyed this series for the most part, some parts of it was drawn out and i could only partially
get on board with one of the story threads. I enjoyed the strong performances of the cast and how the characters were fleshed out. Of course nothing will ever top the original film IMO.

Superman and Lois

Another strong episode It's interesting how they have created characters that are up to no good but i care about them and actually hope they can escape from the lives they made for themselves
It's time for Jordan Kent to let Sarah go. It's becoming pitiful at this point.

so many but off top my fave episodes are

ozymandias, breaking bad

True Detective season one, episode four- the nazi episode

simpsons, last exit to springfeild-

That 1st season of True Detective was great. Really glad the 3rd season was solid too, after the so-so 2nd season. It'll be good to have the series back later this year.

Ozymandias episode of Breaking Bad was amazing. I remember going to work that evening and talking to a coworker like "Holy shit ... wow ..."

Fake Profile on Netflix

Sometimes while watching a TV series at the outset I say in this day and age a problem a character is having can be easily resolved. But as this series goes along resolution becomes impossible because of characters making things impossible and that's part of the fun of the show plus watching the beautiful Carolina Miranda is a bonus.

The Idol on Max

After months of hearing and reading about the controversy surrounding this show I watched The Idol and enjoyed it.
I enjoyed the satire and actually how compelling it is. I thought Lily-Rose Depp did well especially in her opening scenes in which she shifts gears acting wise with ease. Abel "The Weeknd" Tesfaye is as mysterious and charming as he's supposed to be. It's going to be interesting to see how much his character can influence Depps pop star character and if he's able to lure her away from her team of brown nosers with his "honesty"

Visually looked great like Euphoria but it doesn't have a strong cast like Euphoria, they really hit gold casting for Euphoria

I actually never watched Euphoria. May have to give it a shot. My impression of the first episode of The Idol though... Putting my Wreknd Stan dom aside... It really should've been a 2 episode premiere. I dont feel they drew you in enough go bring people, that didn't already want to like it in. I do think Lily is locked into her character and could become a star after this show. Weeknd... Ehhh... Hes doing the job. Not great, not bad. Just doing the job. The rest of the cast are just past HBO retreads for the most part. I'm interested to see how they develop everyone. But it was kinda ehhh for the first episode.
