TV SHOWS / SERIES - Seen any good ones lately? Please feel free to post reviews / feedback / trailers / articles / TV news / all that shit ...

Very good current final season of Barry. Only a few episodes left to go ... good stuff with NoHo Hank and Fuches, as well as Cousineau / Berkman in episode 6. The series still does a very good balance of the darkly comedic & the deadly serious. It's a fine line, but they pull it off well. And they've been able to pull that off from episode 1, season 1 to present.

Ted Lasso Season 3, Episode 10 grade: F

Didn't laugh, was wondering if I forgot shit before reading reviews confirming important things (especially the Nate storyline) was missing.

Agree with everything in that review. Can't believe how bad this is with only two more episodes to go. Honestly no idea where they are going, what a wasted hour-long :cmonson: episode.

Keely's professional life was just saved on the basis of charity from a rich friend. All of the time spent with Nate's team was a waste, Ted was barely a part of the show, Roy/Keely was just thrown together, the Sam shit was out of nowhere and poorly-executed... what was this?

"No, you didn’t miss an episode.":smh:

Still an overly kind review! Didn't really hit at how lamely thrown together the Keeley shit was-- the whole Jack story was a waste of time, as has been the Keeley/Roy will they won't they.

The Nate story is the biggest disappointment. It is the main thing I tuned in for this year and he just quits and they don't even show it? And it's for reasons that have nothing to do with soccer, Ted, his coaching career, ego, etc? All we get out of it is that he fell in love with a no-personality waitress and they love each other, happy ever after, the end? So lame and pointless.

Exactly. Soccer has felt like an afterthought this season. Hardly any scenes on the pitch or game-related stuff. I guess that helps budget-wise not having to do stadium scenes.

But yeah ... the whole Jack storyline ... who fucking cares? Same for Nate's girlfriend. She treated him rudely on several occasions ... and the viewers are supposed to care about their stable relationship that materializes afterward? Huh? We don't.

And the stuff with Nate / Rupert ... they could easily have shown scenes of friction & frustration. Or a blow-up or two. Nate reaching his boiling point career-wise and being like, fuck it ... I'M OUT. But nah ... that storyline fizzled out and he'll probably make his way back to the original team he was with from jump and take over as head coach once Lasso undoubtedly heads back to the USA to be with his fam.

Oh well ... at least season 1 was alright. Season 2 was hit and miss. Season 3 ... plenty of misses.

No trailer for the 3rd season yet, but here are the first 2 seasons' trailers for those who haven't checked out the show yet, but may be interested.

It's easily one of the better new series in recent years. Heartfelt, well-written, funny. All of that. It's just a damn good show that feels lived in.

I gotta start watching some of these hit shows soon...

Especially the way these streamers are pulling titles off their platforms left and right.

Definitely check them out, Playa.

The Bear and Res' Dogs are 2 of the critically acclaimed series in recent years. Both have shorter running times. Res' Dogs is on a week-2-week release schedule, and The Bear drops the whole season at once.

Put it this way ... I know people 20 - 80yo who like each respective series.

Might start checking out this series soon. Heard about it the other day when Pop Culture Happy Hour reviewed the show, and wasn't on my radar as it's available on the Amazon Freevee platform.

I'm familiar with Serrano's work in years past with his contributions at The Ringer when he would co-host or guest on podcasts ...

Shea Serrano is an American author, journalist, and former teacher. He is best known for his work with the sports and pop culture websites, The Ringer and Grantland, as well as his books, including The Rap Year Book, Basketball (and Other Things) and Movies (and Other Things), all of which were The New York Times #1 best-sellers. Writing about Serrano for GQ, Chris Gayomali said: "If you were to draw a triple Venn diagram of hoops, trunk bangers, and jokes made at the expense of J. Cole, Grantland writer Shea Serrano would be smack-dab in the center, probably wearing a Tim Duncan jersey."[3] Serrano's activity and humor on Twitter have earned a devoted following, nicknamed the FOH Army.

PLATONIC on Apple TV

Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne team up again in this series about 2 friends who after some time
became distant. Slowly but surely the show reveals why there was a rift between the two and why their friendship altered all of their other relationships. The humor and writing reminds me of the Netflix series LOVE. 3 episodes in and so far so good

Flash series finale

Like I and many others said months ago they saved most of the budget for the final episode. Some good fights, visuals and a couple of surprising moments.
Some cheese around the edges and at times it felt like I was watching Guardians of the Galaxy 3 the way the writers pulled back from committing to a couple of moments that would have been impactful. Characters suddenly becoming OP...HILARIOUS
I did enjoy the peek at what could have been if this series went on for at least 2 more seasons or what could have been instead of all the filler episodes

That was the only time we saw the live action debut of Max Mercury..

 the appearance of the trans Kid Flash from DC Future State

Started the most recent season of YOU (from recent months) the other day.

I liked the way they introduced the new cast / environment of unlikable people. A bit more of a "personal hell" for Joe.

June releases for me

1) The Idol s1: HBO
2 Bloodhounds s1: Netflix
3) Righteous Gemstones s3: HBO
4) Secret Invasion s1: Disney Plus
5) Warrior s3: HBO
My list is one show only:

Black Mirror

I wonder what this means…

Billed by Netflix as “the most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected yet”, the satirical sci-fi thriller series created by Charlie Brooker will feature Salma Hayek, Michael Cera, Myha’la Herrold, Rob Delaney, Josh Hartnett, Aaron Paul, Kate Mara, Paapa Essiedu, John Hannah, Himesh Patel and Rory Culkin.
“I’ve always felt that Black Mirror should feature stories that are entirely distinct from one another, and keep surprising people – and myself – or else what’s the point?” Brooker told Netflix’s official site Tudum. “It should be a series that can’t be easily defined, and can keep reinventing itself.”
He said that he started writing the show by “upending some of my own core assumptions about what to expect.”
He added: “Consequently, this time, alongside some of the more familiar Black Mirror tropes we’ve also got a few new elements, including some I’ve previously sworn blind the show would never do, to stretch the parameters of what ‘a Black Mirror episode’ even is. The stories are all still tonally Black Mirror through-and-through – but with some crazy swings and more variety than ever before.”

Citadel season finale

They really came up with some great twists for the ending of season one. I have to praise the actors and the way the scenes were shot that added great dramatic and actually moving moments as everything played out. I'm looking forward to season 2 and the already great looking spin off.
