TV SHOWS / SERIES - Seen any good ones lately? Please feel free to post reviews / feedback / trailers / articles / TV news / all that shit ...

One of the co-hosts of the Hollywood Reporter's TV's Top 5 podcast has said a few times in recent years that she's tired of the complete lack of transparency from streamers. She doesn't give a shit about "minutes watched" or "total portion of an episode watched" and other lame data, or lack thereof. Said it's very frustrating compared to the old style where major networks relied heavily on Nielsen ratings and other such stuff. How much viewership was maintained by shows that had strong lead-ins before them, and so on.

And she is right...

However I always had issues with Nielsen methodology too...

But SOMETHING is much better than nothing

Agreed. Tough to know specifically - and has anyone ever known a family that had a Nielsen box in their household?

I always wondered about shows that were huge draws too ... primarily hugely popular shows and sporting events. How do you measure that kind of data when many households are holding watch parties and the numbers are probably even bigger.

Even for a show like Survivor that was a ratings juggernaut early on. Check out those finale numbers in the early-2000s. Damn.

It's crazy you ask that...

I have been invited like 3 times and honestly just didn't have time to go through the interview process.

They asked again most recently during quarantine I just forgot to do it.

I think if asked again I would.

Damn man ... that's cool.

I was listening to former player Tyson's podcast on The Ringer. Just before the current season, he did a couple of episodes wherein he interviewed former players and asked them about their audition process to get on the show. It was pretty cool to hear their behind the scenes experiences before participating. I'll see if I can locate those links, in case you wanna check them out in the future.

Playa,

Recently she has been saying she wants to be more feminine and sexual in her newer roles.
She better get off the picket line first

I was listening to one of the media-based podcasts the other day, and they were talking about the episode extension of running time for shows like Survivor, and Big Brother OR Amazing Race (one of those two). Going from 1 hour to 90 mins each next season. The hosts were saying the reason that's being done is because it's easier for the network to "book off that block". Instead of doing 3 shows at 1-hour apiece in that scheduled slot, they'll simplify it and do 2 at 90 mins.

Shows that have been on the air for 20+ years respectively.

hmmmmm.....

hmmmmm.....

My coworker asked me what I thought on the whole last week. I said yeah - pretty good. If you liked The King of Staten Island, you'll dig it.

Good assortment of cameo appearances that don't overstay their welcome.

Nice TV role for Joe Pesci. He says some real shit about getting your life in order, etc.

And the shorter running times are effective. You can easily knock off the first 4 eps (half the season) in under the time of a movie.

I never thought that young man was that talented but I will check it out.

Yeah - that's the thing. He's not particularly funny or a good actor ... but it's interesting watching his work parallel his real life.

Watching him act / interact with the likes of Pesci, Falco, and Cannavale who are much better actors.

The stuff that hits on mental illness and addiction is real. I can appreciate that.

IF they do a 2nd season ... I wouldn't mind seeing the kid actor who portrayed him in episode 2 in more. The kid was playing a 7 or 8yo version of him, and had personality. Fun to watch given his mood in the time period in 2001.

We're 8 episodes in and I'm pretty sure I've laughed a single-digit number of times. Nothing even made me crack a smile with the most recent episode.

Ted Lasso Season 3, Episode 10 grade: F

Didn't laugh, was wondering if I forgot shit before reading reviews confirming important things (especially the Nate storyline) was missing.

Agree with everything in that review. Can't believe how bad this is with only two more episodes to go. Honestly no idea where they are going, what a wasted hour-long :cmonson: episode.

Keely's professional life was just saved on the basis of charity from a rich friend. All of the time spent with Nate's team was a waste, Ted was barely a part of the show, Roy/Keely was just thrown together, the Sam shit was out of nowhere and poorly-executed... what was this?

The Flash

Cecile new costume wow so creative LOL funny how they called out how much of a bad mother and partner she is. How the negative speed force used Eddie was very predictable.
Bad aging make up except for Iris They did a good job with the Eddie and Nora Allen connection
Funny choice of music at the end of the episode .This show loves dwelling on cheesey things i could care less about

The Tower on Britbox

Season 1 pulled me in with a pretty involving story with some predictable paths. Definitely struck some emotional chords due to some great performances and a move i didnt see coming from a character
Looking forward to watching season 2

Checked out the first 3 episodes of High Desert which became available this week. They range in that 25 - 37 minute range apiece. Easy enough to get through. Enjoyed the premise as it felt similar to Poker Face ... with a shorter running time, and a lead who's quirky and in her mid-50s (compared to Lyonne in Poker Face who's around 40'ish).

There's enough happening plot-wise that it isn't dull.

The scenes with her car in episode 3 are legitimately funny. Her driving around in that reminded me a little bit of Better Call Saul and the shitty car he was riding in during the early season(s) of that series. Gonna keep watching.

The Tower is a British police procedural television series based on the first book of Kate London's Metropolitan trilogy book series, Post Mortem. Starring Gemma Whelan as anti-corruption officer Sarah Collins from the fictional DSI department, it is set in 21st-century London and follows the aftermath of the deaths of ...

Although the series is set in southeast London, it was mostly filmed in the northwest of England, particularly Liverpool and Manchester. The Tower was broadcast over three 50-minute episodes in November 2021. Patrick Harbinson acted as both screenwriter and executive producer. The show received generally favourable reviews, with positive comparisons being made by critics to fellow police corruption drama Line of Duty; Whelan's acting was considered a highlight. Criticisms were also made, particularly of the sound engineering, which was accused of muffling the spoken dialogue on occasion.
