I always wondered about shows that were huge draws too ... primarily hugely popular shows and sporting events. How do you measure that kind of data when many households are holding watch parties and the numbers are probably even bigger.

Even for a show like Survivor that was a ratings juggernaut early on. Check out those finale numbers in the early-2000s. Damn.

I was listening to former player Tyson's podcast on The Ringer. Just before the current season, he did a couple of episodes wherein he interviewed former players and asked them about their audition process to get on the show. It was pretty cool to hear their behind the scenes experiences before participating. I'll see if I can locate those links, in case you wanna check them out in the future.

I was listening to one of the media-based podcasts the other day, and they were talking about the episode extension of running time for shows like Survivor, and Big Brother OR Amazing Race (one of those two). Going from 1 hour to 90 mins each next season. The hosts were saying the reason that's being done is because it's easier for the network to "book off that block". Instead of doing 3 shows at 1-hour apiece in that scheduled slot, they'll simplify it and do 2 at 90 mins.

Shows that have been on the air for 20+ years respectively.

My coworker asked me what I thought on the whole last week. I said yeah - pretty good. If you liked The King of Staten Island, you'll dig it.

Good assortment of cameo appearances that don't overstay their welcome.

Nice TV role for Joe Pesci. He says some real shit about getting your life in order, etc.

And the shorter running times are effective. You can easily knock off the first 4 eps (half the season) in under the time of a movie.

Yeah - that's the thing. He's not particularly funny or a good actor ... but it's interesting watching his work parallel his real life.

Watching him act / interact with the likes of Pesci, Falco, and Cannavale who are much better actors.

The stuff that hits on mental illness and addiction is real. I can appreciate that.

IF they do a 2nd season ... I wouldn't mind seeing the kid actor who portrayed him in episode 2 in more. The kid was playing a 7 or 8yo version of him, and had personality. Fun to watch given his mood in the time period in 2001.

Right on. Talked to my mom the other day and it's one of the series she's currently enjoying.

Checked out the first 3 episodes of High Desert which became available this week. They range in that 25 - 37 minute range apiece. Easy enough to get through. Enjoyed the premise as it felt similar to Poker Face ... with a shorter running time, and a lead who's quirky and in her mid-50s (compared to Lyonne in Poker Face who's around 40'ish).

There's enough happening plot-wise that it isn't dull.

The scenes with her car in episode 3 are legitimately funny. Her driving around in that reminded me a little bit of Better Call Saul and the shitty car he was riding in during the early season(s) of that series. Gonna keep watching.
