Back in those days whites didn't allow for too much competition from blacks. Opening a store on the black side of town was done, but... That white hate is a bitch when Jethroes grocery took a financial hit. White inspectors were harsh, white police would probably harass patrons, white distributors overcharged probably or didn't deliver or didn't do biz with us. Destroying any prospect of generational wealth.I was talking about this with Emmett Till, going to a white business in the South to buy candy just hanging out playing checkers.
Come on now, there aren't even the basic simple black businesses in these areas. You mean to tell me, we can't fry chicken or cook hamburgers to sell? What about a basic grocery store with a few items, you don't need an Amazon type of store. What about home building?
It is no wonder that a black athlete, entertainer, buys these white owned companies when they can start their own. This is a red flag. They get upset and the next thing you know, somebody is trying to kill them.
Many of these fools will spends days chasing me up and down the street but can't muster the energy to build something like this.
We see some of the same shit today. Higher interest loans or no loans. Harsher inspectors. But I agree, that was yesteryear. We lost that spark of hope. We got Indians, Pakistanis, and Asians doing just fine. But they lean on each other and support each other because it's a huge group effort.
Today blacks hate working service jobs. We got too much pride for shoe repair, or cleaners, or carpet cleaning. You'll find some folks doing it, but not a lot. Then when we do take those jobs and then deliver a poor customer experience because a lot of young folk see the jobs as temporary and give as little effort as possible. Again not everybody, but we all ran into mofos with shitty attitudes behind the counter. It's a shitty cycle.
My uncle ran a business in a black neighborhood for 50 years. It can be done, but he was committed, took no for an answer and he hated white people, didn't rent to them either. He was from a different era and from Alabama so he was cut different.
Not trying to mk excuses, just saying black people had some road blocks
