I’m from Gary. 25 minutes from downtown Chicago. Lot of our elders are dying, ain’t no young folks, that ain’t folks who got kicked out of Chicago when they knocked down the projects, staying there (most folks sale their parents crib and move on with their lives bc the plan is never to come back to Gary so why hold on to a 60-100 year old house?) and property all over the city is owned by out of state and even country folks. Imo, they are playing the long game, 100 years from now when the steel mills are extinct but that valuable Lake Michigan land is still there. In the meantime, rent it out via section 8 or other low income programs. It’s generational property for those folks.

Of course, no one person is responsible for EVERYTHING. But if no one ever lifts a finger. Not even to call the city you're paying your taxes to, then nothing will ever change.
In the days, way back, there was always that one or two neighbors that would clean damn near the entire block. When others come to your block to f---k it up, most of the people would be responsible and not let that happen. Cleanliness is contagious with neighbors. That's been my experience

I can't speak on ATL but in Brooklyn we have something like that. It's still in it's infancy as far as community acceptance but it's there

There is always some level of meddling by the powers that be who want to control Black people but we dont always know to what extent. This tells another method of how.
Just like when its revealed why crime is very low in neighborhoods or very high in neighborhoods.
My idea would help more than one community so it would be difficult to answer your question.
In order to do it properly, I would hope to expand this idea to multiple neighborhoods. Without actually doing the numbers and shooting from the hip I would assume $25 to $50 million.
In my opinion you need more than enough capital so the objective cannot fail.
I haven't done a proper SWAT Analysis, but I know the abject threats are Arab and Asian businesses in the area along with Wal-Mart and any large stores.
It would be my hope to avoid the Walmarts of the world because those are a threat that my little stores could not take down single-handedly so it's best to avoid them and areas in which they could potentially pop up. They can undercut my pricing and thus thwart any attempt I could make to build the community while directing the community toward the resources I provide.
The excessive capital is necessary because in order to direct people to my store, I would have to eliminate the competition by lowering prices to a point where they can compete

I think one of the things that gets missed by the masses, is that these rundown properties in our neighborhoods are intentionally not for sell. There are conglomerates sitting on these properties waiting for that area to "come up". This is why some major cities are clamping down on this by destroying the houses and fining the owners. This is what Atlanta was trying to do when the city tore down the wrong house.

Not gone lie, I literally said this yesterday. I’m from Detroit but move about 35 miles west when niggas was really wilding out and I had small daughters. The wife and I took a ride from a suburban area that has a restaurant we like and decided to ride a Main Street from that suburb through the City of Detroit to a highway avoiding a more convenient route that had bad traffic. Riding through the Suburbs, the roads were great, there was business and commerce everywhere and it showed what possibility looks like. Mind you I grew up riding up and down Van Dyke basically my whole life and I remember when Macomb County wasn’t the best.
The minute and I mean riding over 8 mile (the divider of suburb and city) from Macomb into Detroit, the streets immediately went to shit and I was dodging potholes and fucked up streets the whole time. We didn’t see one grocery store. One decent restaurant, computer repair, Home Depot, fucking nothing. I looked at wifey and said “this shit is fucking crazy”! I’m not sure who to blame, folks like me for moving out? City officials making it hard to start and maintain business and good infrastructure. Politicians, churches; no clue. I have been to other cities and seen similar. However, I go to other Chocolate City’s and not all of them are so desolate, so I know it’s possible.
