50 Cent rushes once again to defend his white Daddy Eminem and says Melle Mel is out of touch

So you think a black man would’ve went multiple platinum off these corny ass songs?

Clearly his white skin and white audience is the reason why these shits were a success

You mean like how these guys did?

I won't say that being white doesn't have some degree in Em's success (even he says that) but I can name dozens of white MCs, some that had a legend's co-sign (Da Knuckleheadz), underground love (El-P), hood talent (Millkbone), celebs with a built-in audience (Brian Austin Grren), played a starring role in a hip-hop movie (Kamron from Young Black Teenagers, who were also co-signed be Chuck D), cats that held they own with modern day legends (Bubba Sparxxx) & even those that paved their own way in hip-hop (Insane Clown Posse). None have been half as successful as Em.

Em has paid his dues in hip-hop & should be rightfully respected.

I said this in another thread and some of you are proving exactly this:
rap is the only genre that has no respect for its predecessors. Corporations convinced niggas that "staying current" is the only thing that holds value. Every other genre shows mad respect for its elders and cites the previous generation's influence over their music - EXCEPT RAP. This is how they control you ig'nant niggas' minds.

This ain't true. Problem is it's always old niggas that go out their way to shit on everything after what they've done crying about "We don't get any respect." It's hard to get respect when you don't give it. The problem with Mell and other OGs like him is they think they're bigger or on par with the culture. Nobody is. You make your contribution and then let everyone else after you build upon it. Dude is out of touch.

I don't fuck with a lot of the newer stuff either, but I know it has a place. It's connecting with who it needs to connect to in order to keep the culture moving.

Doja Cat was reciting Phonte verses word for word. All of these melodic new rappers all give props to Lil' Wayne. Nas recently won a grammy for shit he did with Hitboy. J Cole did a verse on the latest GangStarr album. I can way more examples of newer artists giving people props more than I can the opposite. My generation of rap always gave props to their forefathers. It's so much rap music now that you can find what you like and stick with that. Staying current don't matter as much in this era. Griselda ain't "current" but they still doing numbers

I can think of half a dozen verses by Chuck D that blow Mel's shit out the water.

Kool G Rap had some ferocious barz. Rakim. Kool Keith. Mel ain't on their level on any day. Yeah, he's an originator but no way is he a GOAT. Nor is Caz or Mo.

I just for the first time Heard Melle's verse.... Dam...that shit is bonkers....brah was spitting knowledge

so you saying black people wouldn't be successful making "corny" your words.. rap songs?

So all these guys went multi platinum off these songs?.. I didn’t know humpty , the fat boys, etc sold 8 million copies and better or went multi platinum on several of their albulms.. funny thing I don’t think they knew either or their record labels or their fans or the music industry

Skee lo was as big as Eminem? Who would’ve thunk that.. I stay hearing skee lo being mention as 1 of the top selling albulms of all time

Oh wait

You putting em in yo top 5?
Just asking

I don't do list because it's an impossible task

Although Bgol does those debates surprisingly well for the most part.

Lists are Not made to celebrate but denigrate.

Mel above lists he just IS.

That man is a foundational piece of hip hop

You can't quantify that

Like grandmaster flash inventing quick mix...

How the f*ck you gonna quantify that?

He isn't the greatest dj of all time but djs as we know them would not exist without him.

You cannot RANK Rakim.

What he did for modern mc delivery content cadence flow and lyrics CHANGED modern mc techniques

Ain't no ranking Pac INFLUENCE on hip hop culture.

But he ain't the best MC.

Saying anything negative about Biggie as a pure uncut MC is not blasphemy its nonsensical.

Eminem is SICK.

No post Eminem white rapper and I mean NONE can claim they were not directly influenced by him.

PERIOD. they ALL sound like him in some way shape or form. You cannot dismiss that.

That's a permanent generational change in a culture artwork and business.

You can't RANK any of them.

Barbershop bullsh*t fun talk ? Of course.

But no legitimate music journalists should engage in that.

You can rank an individual artists catalog I guess but outside that?

Lists should be fine discussions built to highlight and celebrate and elevate the culture.

The internet yet again proves it has become everything opposite of that.

who's fault was that??

hell i went to the kendrick lamar concert in Nashville last year and 80 percent of the crowd was white..

besides...the record biz was different back then

don't blame EM for being younger than those guys

these new found militant niggas nowadays just hate EM.....

not just because he's white.... but because he's GOOD and he's white

i don't hear niggas bitch'n about paul wall...

hell post malone and Jack Harlow might end up being bigger then EM..

most of the rappers we call the greatest all give EM his props

You putting em in yo top 5?
Just asking
I can put em at exactly number 5. Between him and drake.
my criteria.
lyricism
Substance
Impact
Battles tested
career
My top 4 had all the above. Em and drake lacked substance to me. Could be wrong

after that comes lil Wayne Jada rakim Andre 3000

Oh wait

Never said he was. But these artists sold with "corny" ass songs. Singles, not albums.

But I looked up Skee-Lo & he only went gold...thought he did better than that. So, replace him with Biz's "Just A Friend" or Afroman's "Because I Got High".

its amazing that people wan't to rewrite history and say em lacked substance..LOL

i think that started when Joe budden (of all people) was hating...

Correct me. Drake lacks substance too to me. He makes great dinner music

Yes. You can correct me if I’m wrong. I just looked at him as a wordsmith. Extremely clever at putting words together. But most of it was comedy to Me or venting

You can't be wrong it's art. It's subjective

I guess I need to get your personal definition of substance.

he had hit songs about abuse, stalker fans, all kinds of political shit, racism..etc

i can't do your homework for you LOL
How are you doing it for me. You claimed he does.
what’s the message in his abuse songs? What political songs? White Americans talks about if he was black he would have sold half. And stan is not a song that an audience relates to. Only the star

you want me to quote lyrics and post links for you?? hell naw you can use google.

and somebody uses the word stan on this board damn near everyday LOL!

you have had blinders on because you just don't like EM

Like a message than can be applied.
For example Tupac nas jay z all have lyrics that could be in the library of congress. Which nas is already. And Tupac words is like Jesus said them to some dudes.

Hmmm...

Again I need your definition of substance

And I completely disagree about Stan

The REASON the record resonates and still does because EVERYONE can relate to BEING Stan 3/4 of the song was from his perspective

We all been a stan

And stalker records have existed and been hits for decades

Because most have been to some degree on BOTH sides.

Hate getting personal but I had girl attempt suicide over me and leave a letter. I know dudes who have stalked ex girlfriends.

But you don't HAVE to be a stalker or stalked to connect to the record

That what makes it art and a great song/poem

So that is substance in my personal definition.

Just make a list of people that like listen too.
Thats what I do. When it becomes skill it gets hard I agree.

Ok. Now how does Stan compare to a Tupac jay z or nas or biggie catalog to move him past 5.
I mean I could cherry pick she caught the vapors and apply that.

Just make a list of people that like listen too.
Thats what I do. When it becomes skill it gets hard I agree.

Ok I get it even that?

I mean there is not a Jay Biggie Nas Redman. Outkast Scarface Ghostface song I don't think I couldn't listen too anytime anywhere.

Real talk? Nicki one of my favorites.

But same goes for Quest. I like almost all Drake stuff. And Rick Ross. And Cube. Snoop. Casual. Eminem.

And I mean whole catalog.

Wu tang>>>>> Dip Set>>>>>

I just love hip hop man.

Good hop hop.

I like a couple of Cardi, Glo- rilla too.

But top 5?

It's tough.

Wow...

I feel like your own criteria kinda invalidates your list.
