I feel that the reason behind Eminem's success IS because he did not rap about the stereotypical things that black rappers were at the time.

"I got this, I got that" "money..." "bitches" etc

Em rapped about a failing family life and an ongoing family squabbles after his success.

He PROVIDED a different form of content whilst maintaining a rap/hip hop style.

Plenty of non black kids came up hard and could relate to his topics.

And I don't hear NOBODY calling out Dre for "Whiteploitation!!!"

Marketing and markets moutherfuckers and they found theirs!!!

I can think of half a dozen verses by Chuck D that blow Mel's shit out the water.

Kool G Rap had some ferocious barz. Rakim. Kool Keith. Mel ain't on their level on any day. Yeah, he's an originator but no way is he a GOAT. Nor is Caz or Mo.

ok... where you think they got it from? come on man..that beatstreet bar was pure fiya... the ones you mention, got bars but they had to get their flow from someone and that the trinity of goats. what the trinity of goats did was create the space and place for others to come in and become great and better at the art but in no way can you become better than the architects.

rap is the only genre that has no respect for its predecessors. Corporations convinced niggas that "staying current" is the only thing that holds value. Every other genre shows mad respect for its elders and cites the previous generation's influence over their music - EXCEPT RAP. This is how they control you ig'nant niggas' minds. This is why rap catalogues hold no value - until a corporation buys rappers' catalogues and start using them in commercials.

Even this whole discussion of "top rappers" is based around white criterion - record sales and shit. You never hear rockers doing that shit. As a result, old rockers still hit the national touring circuits and eat until they get dropped in the box. "Staying current" is so important to "the culture" that they have convinced people that their elders don't matter.

Rich whiteys keeping their foot on our necks while simultaneously holding up their own.
