Guns bought through credit cards in the US will now be trackable

Credit card purchases of firearms in the US can now be tracked and purchases deemed suspicious can even be shared with law enforcement, according to a new measure approved by an organization that sets parameters for business transactions.

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) voted in favor of creating a merchant code for firearms stores, according to Reuters.

Merchant codes are four-digit codes that categorize retailers across all industries; until now, gun purchases had been classified under “miscellaneous retail stores” or “sporting goods stores.”

While the measure has been lauded by politicians such as Massachusetts senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey among others, it isn’t clear how this process will work.

Numerous top level credit card companies such as PayPal, Stripe and Square don’t allow gun purchases. For the credit companies that do allow the purchases, the total cost can be extra high due to interests.

As a result, many gun buyers often use cash for their purchases; potential buyers are often seen asking in online forums whether it’s better to buy guns with cash or credits, with many voting for cash.

Meanwhile, fintech companies such as Credova, built for the purpose of allowing installment plans for gun purchases, shrug off their role when asked about how people like the Uvalde, Texas, shooter purchased guns through their platform using a debit card.

I mean cash is king for anything that you want to buy without leaving a trace. (sorry crypto). This isn't anything new. Also, like someone said, how does this prevent gun violence?

And can’t prevent all gun violence but it could prevent some

Wasn’t it implied that a congressman from Florida paid for sex with an underage girl with one of those mobile apps?

So are they gonna lump an AR style firearm chambered in 22lr or 9mm in the same class as .223/556 whenever someone makes a purchase? What about the person who buys a precision bolt-action higher end pistol? I don't recall ever seeing a receipt that specifies handgun vs rifle vs lever-action or bolt-action vs pump-action, etc..... Who's gonna parse out every receipt to verify these gun types? This is a subtle segway to trying to ban a whole lot more firearm types. Starts with 1 or two firearm types and eventually increases. Where does it end? :smh:

I’m sorry, but they do need to ban automatic and semi automatic weapons in this country because you have too many crazy motherfuckers. Also, your guns is not going to stop the US government if they come after you especially if you did something stupid. This is not Russia…….This is the United States of America.

Get rid of guns and we will be at each other's necks with knives like UK. Or bows and arrows. Hatchets. Gas attacks and homemade guns like they did Abe in Japan.

Swords, nunchucks, fucking throwing stars. It's the people. The lethality and volume killing ability of guns only escalates what's already inside.

Then you're basically banning over 90% of firearms and penalizing all responsible firearm owners for the actions of a very small minority. Then when malicious ppl switch to using knives or other weapons then you'll start seeing calls for knife control. It's already being seen in Canada, UK, Australia and other countries.

Exactly my point. These gun control fanatics keep trying to shift the goal post and refuse to acknowledge when they're wrong

Listen, I don’t mind people legally owning a handgun or shotgun but when you get into the territory of automatic and semi automatic thats when I don’t support you anymore.

You just said ban all semiautomatic weapons. Over 90% of handguns being used now are semiauto. Same with hunting rifles and a lot of shotguns as well. Based on your statement, you want people to go back to Wild West technology. Good luck with that.

Pretty sure any gun shop you go will be eager to sell as long as you pass the background check.
I'm not disputing that but the feeling of not being welcome will probably still increase more than it is now and there will be locations that will try to deny you under judging you as a "gang banger" or "drug dealer" cuz you're rolling with that much cash

Spoken like someone who doesn't know what da fuck they're talkin' about. Unless you have a Class 3 stamp, you're not going in any gun shop and walking out with a fully auto. Da majority of guns anyone has will be semiautomatic. Furthermore, they can ban what they want. That wouldn't stop me or anybody else from gettin' damn near ANY gun that we want off da streets/black market and da beat would go on. And that includes switches.

True. Grenades and bazookas are out there. Military looks the other way or has shitty inventory accounting.

I need to go to Adventure Outdoors and get me something

Yes, I did say that…..listen for the past 20+ years on Bgol (damn I M getting old) I always been against automatic and semi automatic guns and that hasn’t changed.

I've been on BGOL for over 20 years and I definitely know BGOL as a whole is not against semi-auto guns. There are members who are anti-gun and that's fine but to say the board itself supports your statement is absolutely false.

The reason why I am against semi automatic guns, because you could easily convert it to an automatic weapon.
