Dubai actually is a cool place to visit at least once in your life. Other than the flight, its not really expensive as you may think.

The Burj Khalifa is an amazing building. If you pay extra, you get to chill in a lounge with free food & alcohol with a dope view at the top. The architecture of the buildings are dope.
The aquarium in the mall I believe is the largest aquarium in the world. You can go scuba diving with sharks & shit.
The gold souk where you can get quality gold jewelry for way less than what you'd pay in the states.
The beaches are nice. I went to the La Mer Beach and the cuisine was top notch.
Unfortunately I didn't get to go to the Ferrari world theme park but it is a must visit. It was an hour from my hotel & didn't have the time.
Don't underestimate the desert. The land cruiser rides on the desert was crazy.
If you have a wifey or special lady in your life, Dubai is a great couples trip.
