That's brilliant, but Republicans don't care about being hypocrites. They'll already ginning up excuses as to why the HEROES ACT was wrong, even the people that voted for it will have a problem with it.
But will it stand in court? Biden is just trying to get a promise done and minimize the possibility it can be overturned. You had all these folks on here stirring discontent for months. He didn't have the votes in congress, and even Pelosi said he didn't have legal authority to do it by EO. So while everyone was fussing and moaning making threads about how Biden wasn't doing ANYTHING, the Biden administration was actually hard at work trying to figure out how to make it happen. This is what they came up with. Now they can go on to fuss and moan about how it's "not enough".

Many people talk about automation and going to college to escape this process. This affects even professional jobs. When a customer can setup their own system using off the shelves software or can do their own legal research that would not have been possible 20 years ago. I look back on my profession which has virtually eliminated many positions. Even IT positions and tech support jobs are getting eliminated. You used to have to call Geeksquad to setup a router, not it is plug and play for the most part.

I agree, but the problem isn't just legislators or the courts.
If you cancel all student debt banks stop issuing student loans which means college is only accessible to the rich. With fewer students a lot of universities will have to close their doors which makes the problem even worse.
IMO, a better solution is to make student debt tax deductible. At the same time expand the public education system to allow high school graduates to earn an associate's degree in general studies. They can enter this program free of charge at their High School campus, community college, or through online correspondence.
That way anybody going on to a bachelor's degree only has to pay for 2 years.
In the meantime, expand the community college system. Have them work alongside local business leaders to make sure the graduates who come out are trained and ready to enter the local economy. Have the government subsidize degrees for high demand professions like teaching.
Higher education should be an essential service instead of a for-profit industry, but in America this is a trillion dollar industry. It is going to take years if not decades to get rid of the profit motive entirely. this is just the first step in a very complicated process.
They can't do any of this without the votes to get it through congress.
If I were in Congress I would vote against total debt cancellation for all the reasons stated before.
It's a great goal, but much like universal health care, we are nowhere near ready to make that transition yet.
Many of those that opposed the debt forgiveness are now arguing that it will increase inflationary pressure, and perhaps it will. That doesn't mean that prices will necessarily go up, but demand for goods and services could increase at least in the short term, bolstering retailers and consumers service providers. But that's all.
What I really want to know is why wasn't this argument raised before another giant tax cut was pushed through congress immediately after trump was elected. Weren't they worried about all that money the 2 percent was going to get back causing inflation? NO. They knew from the start that those people were just going to hoard money and that trickle down economics was a joke when all the money was placed in the hands of so few.

They did. There was a CBO score and a report to go along with it that had nothing but warning signs but Republicans ignored it and the media let them off the hook. But Trump was doing so much fuck shit back then sucking all the air out of news stories so the shit got a very short lifespan.

I’ve been alive nearly 40 years. I can’t think of a Congress that has done this much for the people of this country. I mean they still allowed 1 million people to die but they haven’t dont this much for the people for this long.

It was brought up. It was just largely ignored because remember back then they were all sure this was going to be a brief speed bump, over with by Easter. If it had actually been that quick, it probably would be spun as a bad situation turned into a taxcut.
And even then it wasn't the $2,000 or whatever it was, it was the fact that a lot of people were sitting at home stacking savings for a year and a half that caused it.
