AMC/Regal/Cineworld Theaters may go bankrupt (CINEWORLD GOES DOWN!)

Saw the latest 007 movie on a Tuesday night, theater was empty but always been empty on a weeknight.
I thought theaters would have taken some safety measures to keep people 6ft apart such as limiting the seating rows and not selling a seat in between 2 seats but nope they are willing to sell every seat if possible

I am NEVER going back to the MOVIES so they will NOT BE MISSED by Me.

After all that delay the pulled Bond from the Dolby showings too soon for kids movies or something. Stuff like that is going to keep my going but I did make it to a Dune sneak preview which wasn't filled to the gills and I enjoyed it.

With Firestick, nigga still go to the movies? Movies always been semi wack since you can't smoke a blunt in them. Nothing like sitting in my boxers and t shirt in the basement puffing a fat L sipping Prosecco watching some new shit vs. sitting next to some unknown dickhead, eating overpriced snacks, in a bedbug infested seat semi sober, nah.

I wouldn't be opposed to Batman in the movies but how you gonna find a time when crowds will be sparse?

May as well wait for it to hit Cinema HD.

March 4 is right around the corner.

For Me,
If I hadn't said so elsewhere in this thread,
There's NOTHING like seeing a film in (Real) IMAX, and/or Dolby Cinema.

But with news concerning AMC's "THE BATMAN" higher pricing point,
I'm about to say "FUCK 'EM",
And wait for the HBO Max premiere 45 days from now.

A LG 65" and a Nakamichi Soundbar set-up,
I think I'll be good.

As many of you stated, some will be turned off and yes, they already charge extra for premium theaters.

However, everything that is being said is taking place in other industries. Let's take airlines for example.

If you do not want to pay higher prices, get your tickets early. Things such as fully refundable tickets or ticket changes is extra. Selecting seats is extra. Buy your tickets at the last minute, extra. Flights during holidays and spring break are higher.

Dynamic pricing isn't new. It's just new to theaters.

For those of you who argue that people will stop going early, ask yourself this: if you are one the many on BGOL who went to the theater on the first weekend to see Infinity War, Endgame, or Black Panther, would you have still went if the price was twice as much?

I personally saw Black Panther on the first weekend and I would have reluctantly paid twice as much. I wouldn't have been happy, but I would have paid. With pricing, to maximize profits, you find the upper limit of willingness to pay and go down from there.

I guess I'm different and I have never cared to watch a movie during the first weekend of release or even the first week or two.
I hate crowds and all the hassle that comes with watching a movie at a theater (i.e. people talking during the movie, on their phones, etc.)
I don't mind waiting for it to come out on Blu-ray, streaming, etc.
I've always reluctantly gone to the theaters and at least recently it's only been because my kids wanted to watch a movie.
They're now conditioned too where they don't feel the need to watch a movie as soon as its released.

There will always be a market for people who are conditioned to go to the theaters almost every week to see whatever new movie is out.
But I think that market will slowly shrink over time and in the future theaters will be much smaller than they are now while charging higher prices.

Bruh...

A lot of my Friends were absolutely SHOCKED when I just waited to see "SHANG-CHI" and "THE ETERNALS" on DISNEY+
And then waited almost a month to see "NO WAY HOME". Because Peeps know I do only IMAX and Dolby Cinema.

For the first two, I wasn't vaccinated at the time. So I couldn't go to any theater in NYC unless I was.
Once I was (due to my job), I really just didn't care anymore about seeing a film opening week.

Part of Me really wants to see "THE BATMAN" this week. But since most of the IMAX and Dolby Cinema screenings are sold out at the theater I usually go to, I'm really not sweating to see it right away. Though those formats are the way I prefer to see movies like this.

If theater chains are going to have this pricing as the new "Normal",
Then larger screens/auditoriums are going to have to be the new "Standard".
I'm sure as HELL not paying to see any movie on a screen no larger than or at least three times the size of my LG.

My only regret about my home theater set-up is that I didn't get the Nakamichi with the TWO Subs.
But living in a studio apartment, my neighbors I'm sure would have been chasing MY BLACK ASS out with torches and shit.

Yeah, I always had that issue when living in an apartment. I wouldn't even have my sound up that loud and would get a knock on the door about the sound. SMH. I was so glad when I got a house and could crank the sound as loud as I want.
Now, with a dedicated home theater I can really crank it up and pretty much recreate the experience I would get at a theater.
I still haven't seen No Way Home and will just wait for it to drop on Blu-ray and then download it. LOL

Agreed...but i never go to amc...always for the most part go to cinemark theaters or a local theater called lake... even if they charge more its not as much as amc... amc was high when it 2018...i avoid them by all means.. going to the other theaters at that time was half the cost and looked just as nice!! Forget about amc by all means!! Only way they may catch me if me n wifey are out of town...

Yeah, when I would got to the theaters it was never to AMC. I only went to one called Alamo Drafthouse that's local here in Houston.
They serve alcohol and you have to be 18 and up to get in.
They also show old movies and allow crowd participation on some Rocky Horror type shit.
That's the only kind of theater I would even think about going to now.

If the other theater companies don't do the same AMC will be left out there cause people will just got to Regal or Cinemark to see The Batman, at the regular price.

Like I said in the other thread on the Batman subject it’s 4 options… wait till the price drop… wait till it hit cable or streaming service… wait till a clear copy hit free streaming service… get that amc monthly pass for like $20($25 ny/Cali) where you can see up to 3 movies a week… or pay the increase… so many cheaper to free options to see it… now throw in other theatres are not doing the increase it just shows another option that consumers don’t have to tolerate this biz decision

We only have two AMC's here the others closed down permanently. Phoenix Theatres near the Navy base here is $5 all movies for military and non-military. AMC just wants to go out of business to many options like you said to even justify paying more for one movie.

We got double digit amount of them in Manhattan alone.. they definitely got a nice size portion of theatres here..but we definitely still got other 1s that’s not amc

the at home experience is so good now if you have the equipment it is hard to justify going to the theater with the exception of high end tent pole movies.

i love going to the movies but it would be hard to keep going if they said fuck it and went day/date with home releases.

i have a full 7.1 atmos set up with 75" dolby vision flat screen. my shit is better than the average theater and some higher end theaters.

imo, only a dolby cinema theater or its equal is fucking with me.

Theaters have been doing higher pricing based on theater, time of day or based on days

Friday's cost more than Wednesday's

:dunno:
