MA$E is really airing Diddy out....lol

No Brother. You're attempting to accuse others of putting the cart before the horse.
The debate was never if people knew Mase or Big before Puff. Or if he or the label made them stars.

The (minor) debate was that the public at large did not know who Puffy was until Big and Mase. That can not be argued subjectively.
Unless they were in NYC while he was at Uptown and promoting parties, people didn't know him as the personality/celebrity he eventually became.
They were the biggest black label in the world, Dominating radio clubs tv and magazines,
And had a flamboyant head of label,
how the fuck you not gonna know him!
This convo is also making me look dumb by association

Puff made Mase. He gave him the look, connected him to the producers, and he was introduced by one of the hottest rappers at the time(BIG). Mase was not a standout rapper with a major buzz before Puff. No Puff, no Mase.

The same way he did A&R for Jodeci and Mary J Blige years before Bad Boy and nobody knew who the fuck he was.
Forever My Lady and What's the 411? were the two biggest albums in R&B at the time, and even though they were his projects.....NOBODY KNEW WHO THE FUCK SEAN "PUFFY" COMBS WAS IN THE PUBLIC EYE.
Only the industry knew him.

He essentially did the EXACT same thing for BIG for his own label. Only THIS time, he wasn't going to take a back seat to the talent. His name and brand were going to share the spotlight.

My cuz was doing mad records for Uptown at that time. And because of his connect, my family did most of the catering for their showcases, events and listening parties. I was constantly around Andre, Puff, Jimmy, Dice, James Earl Jones Jr.(RIP) and Tim Dog (The A&R that put Lost Boyz on, not the rapper)

You quoted me saying that the public didn't know Puffy until Big and Mase. That alone is a fact and you can't moonwalk around it.

If you feel dumb, it's only because you're operating on feelings instead of facts.

Er hello, Nobody knew who the fuck big or mase was until puffy! I love my bgol fam but gotdamn some a yall got shit backwards like a motherfucker. Puff is the label he signed those artists and made them superstars, as per his side of the deal.

This... I hate people's revisionist ass history.

LL lost to Canibus
Takeover > Ether
Ma$e and Big made Puffy
and so much more nonsense.

man... ain't nobody checking for mase.. .his time is over. If he had anything in it, he'd drop the joints.. he still talking about old shit. The entire badboy family stay talking about Big or Puff. With them, they have nothing left. Notice how none of the did anything worthwhile outside of badboy? So if they truly had talent and was some other level, they would have moved on and beyond Puff. Mase is still crying about yesteday shit.

1.5hrs of listening? Nigga...

Hold on.

No one knew BIG before Puffy?

Niggas cant see past that advance. It blinds them to whats in fine print.
All they ready to do is go shop and hit the car lot.
Oh I agree I'm just tired of Mase talking about this Diddy ain't letting him out unless he either gives him more albums which isn't adventurous to either of them lol or he buys himself out the contract and even then Diddy wants that publishing lol. When 50 was trying to buy him out Mase should have tried to put up some of his own money and bet on himself that was his best chance.

To your point, I would say most New Yorkers knew who Puff was after the City College Incident. I knew him from The Sound Factory Days when he was dancing up in the clubs. Here he was playing Farnsworth Bentley to Doug E. Fresh.

I can’t stand all these Rappers, If the man took you to the top of the mountain, it’s up to you to make your way from there. The only time this fudgepacker has been relevant is with Puff. Puff the only man that could drop a hit song with a Special Ed sounding motherfucker. He came back with the Welcome Back joint and that was a hit. Puff is his Daddy, he just needs to accept that. Mase couldn’t do shit on G. Unit or by himself, we all saw this nigga kissing Diddy ass on the Badboy Showtime special GTFOH. RIP to Craig Mac for walking away from Bad Boy Records with his head up.

Are you just being silly with that question?
Or lemme ask it this way what kind of "knew about" are you talking about? Cos I'm speaking of superstardom, worldwide fame, selling mass loads of records.

You are legit retarded

Exactly. Unless you were in the scene in New York, you didn't know who Puffy was.

That was my only point.

complain complain......................u signed the contract.
Case in point. 2 years ago I bought a 2017 Kia Sportage with 27,000 MI for $13,500

I saw the carfax, but I didn't know what I was looking at. I bought the car.

I heard an ad from Kia saying bring your car in and we'll put you in a new car and keep your payment the same. I went in there and the salesman told me that my car had structural damage from before I bought it

That they couldn't take my car because of it because they couldn't sell it because it had structural damage

Now I'm kind of fucked. Luckily I don't have any issues with the car, but I've only got 52,000 miles on it because I work from home. That's just 25,000 MI in 2 years.

Now I got to ride this fucking thing to the wheels fall off. I should have read the contract. I should have read the Carfax. Because I didn't, I got screwed. I will know for the future, but this time I'm fucked

So you work for a company. Worldwide presence, they're on the level of Google, Amazon and Microsoft. You do your job and you do it well, bosses also see that you have talents in other areas so they loan you out to other departments, put you on major projects. But you annual increases never reflect the work you do. Your bonuses never reflect the work you put in. You apply for other better paying roles in the company and you constantly get passed over so much so you think you're Jewish!. When you leave that company and you will! At the next place you interview are you saying; 'Well I CHOSE to work there and it just wasn't a fit.' or 'Just looking for the growth opportunities that I wasn't getting there.' Which translated, 'I was kept under some ones thumb and needed to get out!'

So you basically telling me that Puffy used to be a baggage handler. A Get Fresh Crew bell boy. They must a have hazed the fuck out his lazy eye ass.

No wonder he went so hard on Bentley and Da Band. The abused became the abuser.

Clive must have saw him bending over picking up Dougies bags and figured out a way to get Puffy and get into the rap at the same time.

Are you just being silly with that question?

Oh ok obviously

I thought you were being funny with the knew about part.

This happens all the time in the NFL. Remember Deion Sanders saying, "PAY THE MAN" for Josh Cribbs and Devin Hester? Same thing. They were signed to bottom of the barrel deals that were teak friendly or rookie deals.

It's not fair, but a lot of Puffy types go either Suge Knight or Red from Five Heartbeats and refuse to renegotiate.

There's also, who has left Bad Boy Records and had anywhere near the success that they had on Bad Boy Records? I can only think of The Lox.

112 left and disappeared. Craig Mack the same.

I hear Puffy did EVERYBODY dirty. Jermaine Dupri spoke on it when he and puffy we're talking about having a Verzuz.

JD said, I can get everyone I worked with to come down in the stage with me. Who is gonna show up for Puffy?

I'm not saying it's right, but it sucks that black record labels often did the black artists as bad or worse than the white labels

Respectfully, that's not what I was talking about.
A select few knew his name from Red Zone parties on 54th in the city, but the public at large (outside of NYC) didn't know who puffy was until Big and Mase.
I don’t know about that. He definitely had shine with both Mary J and Jodeci.

Bruh you're making assumptions that nobody outside of NY knew who Diddy was. He definitely was known before Big and Mase. Did he become more famous while putting out a few acts on his new label. Of course....but he didn't just all of a sudden become known because of Big and Mase.

Shyne also! But I mean that goes into what the "rumors" of shyt Puff did to his artist. Whether it was black-balling artist or just fcuking them up so much that they couldn't work anymore.

I'm not saying it's right, but it sucks that black record labels often did the black artists as bad or worse than the white labels

Spike Lee wanted to put the Kings of Comedy on BET later after meeting with them he was asked why did her put it out in theaters. His answer he didn't want to be paid in sandwiches

Mase and BIG put Puff on the map. End of story.
Actually, if it wasn't for Craig Mack, none of it would have popped.
Puff made Mase. He gave him the look, connected him to the producers, and he was introduced by one of the hottest rappers at the time(BIG). Mase was not a standout rapper with a major buzz before Puff. No Puff, no Mase.
#facts

Its always interesting noone complains when the money is flowing.

This!!

Puff took average artist and made them stars. Being a popular artist isn't just about talent. There are talented mfs all over the world.

Artist have to have a machine behind them that have the ability to package and promote as well as influence others.

They all made money. What they did with it is on them.

I had an interesting convo with Luke about this subject before.
