For the fam' who recently watched We Own this City ... they did an episode on the former mayor of Baltimore who was featured on the series.

I haven't watched the episode yet, but saved it a few weeks back on the DVR.

Saints And Sinners

Final season out ...

Greater Hope Baptist Church is the heartbeat of Cypress, GA a southern town outside Atlanta which evolved into a city over the years. The church began as a 10-member congregation when the Civil Rights Movement was at its height and being young, black and alone at night was a hazard of circumstance. As times changed, the congregation grew and so did its influence in Cypress. When a violent murder rocks the community, the church that holds the secrets of the entire town is at risk of imploding. For it seems at Greater Hope, only God and the Devil can tell the difference between a saint and a sinner.
Season 6, sees former Mayor Ella Johnson stepping into a new role as Special Prosecutor leading a task force to take down those responsible. Unfortunately, that puts her family members, the dastardly duo of Lady Leona Byrd and Dr. Christie Johnson, directly in her sights.

Midnight Mass
2022

6.5/10

This is a horror limited series on Netflix. This is the type of series you would only be curious about if somebody watched it before you and recommended it. I had been sitting on it for some time and got around to watching over this past week.

Not going to spoil it, but it gives a new perspective on a classic horror genre and mixes it with Christianity.

If you are a person that questions religion (Christianity), you may find this series to your liking.

The series has 7 episodes that run about 1 hour. This is a slow burn series that kicks it in full gear the last two episodes. If you watch it, there are long drawn out religious sermons and some characters who seem to talk endlessly. Pay attention cuz what they say relates directly to what is going on

The first 2 episodes are mainly character introduction/development. You may be tempted to turn it off during this time, but stick it out cuz the last 10 minutes of episode 2 will hook you

SHTF toward the end of episode 6 and the finale will remind you of a classic horror film.

My only peeve was the series should have went into SHTF mode following episode 3. A lot of stuff between episodes 2 and 6 could have been consolidated.

I would recommend watching 2 episodes at a time to allow it to soak in.

Their is a dead white chick who pops up periodically. The way she is depicted, you may think the picture is faulty, or signal buffering. She is made to look like that.

For the militants, there is a lot of interracial in this series mainly between WM/BW. One couple has a biracial daughter who gets involved with a white boy.

Netflix has no plans on continuing it as a series. Hopefully they do come out with a prequel movie that can answer some questions.

Synopsis

The arrival of a charismatic priest brings miracles, mysteries and renewed religious fervour to a dying town.

@ViCiouS

Been listening to some of the recap podcasts & reading the articles about the Barry season finale, and you're right ... it was stronger than I initially scored it.

I think with the shorter episodes ... it's a matter of them leaving you wanting more. And there were some episodes I really enjoyed earlier in the season, so my expectations were sky high, but alot did happen in the season finale.

But the key underlying theme of this season was trauma, as Hader explains in the 1st link below.

Credit to Sean Fennessey (host of The Big Picture) ... he did a series wherein he had on Hader after every episode. A good listen. I've included the episode 6 - 8 recaps below ...

The Old Man on FX/HULU is off to a great start. I found myself hanging on every word Jeff Bridges (Dan Chase),
John Lithgow (Harold Harper),and Joel Grey said not only because of their effortless presence and acting but also because of the interest in just what went down with the characters. Great character dynamics are being setup and extra tension and suspense is added due to what moves the characters are making. When I watch shows like this and look at the horrible things going on in the world I wish the FBI and the CIA were as extremely efficient as they are in these shows.

Hacks on HBOMAX is extremely funny. So many call backs to classic sitcoms and talk shows. Jean Smart and Hannah Einbinder are equally great and they play well together

Glad you’re liking The Old Man too, JBlaze. Good to see the positive reviews coming in from the BGOL viewers in recent days.

Yes - Hacks is a fun series. Nice to see it get the awards recognition right outta the gate last year. What’s equally impressive is that it’s the first breakout role for Hannah Einbinder and she shares the bulk of her scenes across from seasoned acting vet Jean Smart. No easy feat! And Einbinder stepped up her game and landed Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her work in s1. I listened to an interview with the 3 showrunners last week and they said it’s a pleasure to write for their cast of characters, and her + Smart have formed a good friendship outside of the show.

@joneblaze

It was good to also see Amy Brenneman in the Old Man after watching her most recently in s3 of Goliath.

She reminds me at times of a slightly
older version of Courtney Cox with her look.
I followed her career for a long time and she has always been that go to actress who has been a match for many well known leading man and it seems she can take on any role.

Gonna check out a few episodes later today. Looks like the episodes have dropped on the streaming & download sites, if you're interested.

Obi Wan Kenobi Season 1 Episode 6 Good ending(?) to the series. I feel like i got just all the right amount of everything but i would have loved another 30 minutes. It hit some good notes and some just felt like filler and lackluster. Im ok with the series ending here but if a season 2 happens there are definitely paths the story can take.

Sherwood on BBC . I like when a show has a based on real events foundation. It takes it's time to build the characters and to get going, but once it does i found myself very involved and there was tension building but definitely a shocking moment i didnt see coming in the first 2 episodes

Dark Winds on AMC is entertaining and eye opening. Story threads about murder, oppression and pain are written all over the faces of the cast. Finely acted and involving the first 2 episodes are very good and im looking forward to what happens next.

The Umbrella Academy im finding the new season more comprehensive and less scattered than the previous season. Still a lot of fun it's just odd how the CGI looks flawless in some scenes and others it looks completely off with od looking green screen effects

Sherman’s Showcase

This is a comedy, satire series that pretty much is on the same level as the classic “In Living Color” series.

Series deals with music, film, TV, culture, politics and pop culture.

The series is co-produced by John Legend. There are cameos of well known celebrities.

Season 1 consists of 8 episodes that run about 20 minutes each. Season 2 is only one episode. The other episodes of season 2 have not been given a release date at this time. There is supposed to be a special 1 hour episode out there but have not come across it.

I started watching season one a few weeks ago and 2 episodes in. It’s funny if you have a sense of humor. If you don’t have a sense of humor, don’t bother watching it.

Episodes are currently on Hulu. No word yet if IFC/amc planning on renewing for a season 3.

Synopsis

Bashir Salahuddin plays a character named Sherman McDaniels who hosts a fictional musical variety show called Sherman's Showcase. McDaniels takes viewers on a ride through 40 years of entertainment, including music, comedy, gameshow segments, political roundtables and commercial parodies. "Sherman's Showcase" is inspired by shows such as '70s dance favorites "Solid Gold" and "Soul Train" with some '60s "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In" thrown in. A who's-who in music and entertainment guest star.

Glad to hear it! Looking forward to checking it out! Interesting format with their running times, I noticed. Looked like eps 1 - 6 were around 30 mins. Ep 7 was only 20 mins, and finale was 47 mins.

man
each ep feels like less than 10 minutes... except ep 7
that ish went so hard when the credits hit I thought it was the intro after the prologue.

series has 2 powerful guests / cameos from Oliver Platt and Jon Bernthal

Really enjoying it so far. Good role for Platt. Good soundtrack and music. Funny to see Matty Matheson - big guy with all tattoos (he's a Canadian culinary presence - popular on Youtube & really enjoyed his TV series that ran for a few seasons). I like the Sydney character. We saw 4 eps so far. Marcus is cool. The guy who plays Richie ... as the reviewers were saying ... he brings that frantic / manic energy to the show ... similar to Sandler in Uncut Gems.
