I wouldn't bet on that, never underestimate the stupidity of the American public.

Remember how pissed people became when the minimum wage started being raised around the country which meant that a lot of people working fast food, Wal-Mart, Target, etc. would potentially be paid an at least livable wage for the first time in years.

You would think people would have saw that as a good thing but there were a lot of people who were livid and totally against it since the Republicans put a spin on it.

If Biden does this it will definitely be a win for him with people who voted for him (which is all that should matter) but he won't gain any ground with voters. The country is to divided at this point.

I hear you but the thing is they don't have to, their voters will do it for them.

The Republican vs. Democrat shit at this point is really just a political version of Bloods vs. Crips.

Some are so loyal to one party and despise the other so much that you can throw anything out there and they'll believe it.

All they have to do is make this look like some welfare for people who don't need it and convince their voters that they're the ones paying for it and they'll do the rest.

Remember a huge portion of the Republicans loyal base are lower middle class whites who didn't attend college.

That group will be on fire if this goes through.

The legislation is likely more a messaging bill than anything. It’s highly unlikely enough Democrats in the House or Senate would support it to pass it to Biden’s desk. And it’s even more far-fetched that Biden would sign it.
But it represents Republicans starting to dig their heels in on an issue that could develop into a major flashpoint in the midterms, as the current pause expires two months before the election.

I don't disagree with what he seems to be saying in this article.

From this article and what has been said in the past 56% of student loan debt is held by high income individuals who went to private colleges which he doesn't want to cancel.

He seems to he consistently saying he's willing to cancel all of the debt for individuals who make less than 125,000 a year or at least the undergraduate portion if their loans.

I can't really argue with that if it's what he is in fact thinking.

I agree with everything everyone is saying, but as someone who is been paying student loans since 2011 and got mines discharged this year, this is a move in the right direction...

Like he should cancel more and I 100% behind that, but the BS I have been through and others in my shoe when other people were in office, the changes being implemented is a move in the right direction....

I am only saying this because this bitch that was over the Dept. of Ed. before this new administration wanted to do zero and give all the control and power over to the private student loan companies...If she was still there, this thread would not have even been created...

I also think another issue is universities raising tuition constantly, especially during recessions. When I graduated in 2008, my school said they were increasing tuition. I'm in a career change so a school I visited during open house had a 62k tuition and the following year raised it by 2k to 64k. Schools really got to stop especially if they're hurting for students.

I totally agree and the Dept. of Education is looking into this...I will say I know alot of kids who are in school now that have not had to pay tuition while in school the last 2 years....Alot of schools have waived fees and tuition because of the pandemic...

Scams by design can't last decades -- they are for a quick enrichment. I think the word you're looking for is fraud. But even fraud denotes criminality. It's not criminal it's legal.
