Just survived a shootout. UPDATE: Just lost my "nephew"

Now that I think about it I'm sure the one offender they caught was shot by armed security. He was shot in both legs. He was bleeding profusely and a guard was making him a tourniquet as we left. I wouldn't have minded running him over on the way out.

Wow man. One helluva morning.

Would you have felt better if you were strapped in that situation? Would you have reacted the same way?

Well my friend said in the car afterwards he had considered bringing his gun. I said why? So you could get shot in return fire or shoot a bystander yourself? There was a huge crowd outside.

Best thing to do was get to your family and get on the ground.
Well put. Even while conceal carrying, sometimes the best thing to do is not draw your weapon. Just try your best to quickly assess the situation and repercussions and then go from there.

glad you safe and aight man..
these damn HS graduations aint what they used to be.
now u got grown ass people fighting over seats and shit.....can't even let these kids enjoy their day.
saw it real live and in person last week

fights.. black women shrieking at the top of their voices when their kid walks across the stage.. i had to take some headache medicine when i left that place.

My friends daughters high school graduation. Held at Xavier University in New Orleans. Fight outside escalated to gunfire. Her classmates grandmother shot in head. Scum who started it was shot in both legs. I'm scratched up from hitting the ground in the parking lot but otherwise ok. Heart pounding I ain't gonna lie.

Flew down here and almost lost my life. My friend tried to break it up...I pulled him back and seconds later the shooting started
Somebodies grandmother shot in the head :smh:

Glad you and yours made it out safely. I went out yesterday to a rooftop party in ATL and felt uneasy as soon as I parked. I hade to hide the Blicky real good because these dudes are breaking windows and I really aint feeling crowds anymore. The main reason I came out was because a few cats I knew from New York came to town.

I have some pictures of right before the fight. I was getting ceeepshots lol...not really but kinda. Just was trying to get pics of all the creole milfs lol. No pictures of the crime scene. Even in the moment I knew it wasn't appropriate. Might post the milfs later tho lol

I mean go ahead if you're trying to take an unpaid day off work to answer questions or have your computer confiscated as evidence.

In fact you should probably delete this post, but before you do send those milf shots over to my cousin for safe keeping.

No. There was a brawl going on before the shooting and I wouldn't have been able to tell who to shoot at. I would have been as bad as the suspects just hoping to hit the right person.

For real though, I'm glad you got out of there when you did. Trouble follows those who linger

And even worse, if you did shoot, who's to say someone else, not involved in the fighting, might've assumed you were part of the crew fighting/shooting when you were just trying to defend yourself.

A true BGOLian. Defied death to bring the yams to his brethren. @850credit is on a different level.

Yeah man. I live in Atlanta as well. I could have stayed home if I wanted to get shot at!

And there you have it!

In certain situations, a good guy with a gun is useless, just like the police have demonstrated.

In other situations, being strapped CAN give you a fighting chance, but there are simply NO GUARANTEES when it comes to sudden breakouts with firearms. Anything can happen. Much can go wrong. And the best circumstance is to avoid being in vulnerable situations.

Getting to where you gotta avoid large groups of us. :smh: Been that way, actually. If you don’t know the area it’s a huge risk anymore.
I was just talking to my friend about this yesterday. He's a photographer and was invited to a block party to take pictures but he declined the job. He told me, in an almost embarrassed tone, "man, I just can't be anywhere where there are that many people on that nigga shit." If it's older black folks, I'm all in. They are going to enjoy themselves and have a good time. Young folks go out looking to prove some shit, and end up causing problems.

I've been trying to process what could have been done to avoid this. There were a good amount of armed security there.

Oh the Mayor was there as well and spoke at the graduation.

All the security was inside or just outside the main doors...none were in the parking lot where the brawl occurred.

To their credit they came out after they heard shots fired and engaged one guy (I believe) and took him down.

Guess in hindsight they needed a couple of officers in the parking lot.

I remember when I went to Xavier there were a few guys in my Advanced accounting class that were renting a house in that area. The house got shot up I believe 2 of those guys died. One of them was in the hospital. This was like a few weeks before finals. Everybody was shocked when the guy showed up for final exam like nothing happened.

I'm so tired of niggas and nigga shit

White folks really did a masterful job with our sub lower class

They're fucking pathetic and useless

Man, I came down here to celebrate a girl I've known since she was 11, becoming a woman and graduating with high GPA and honors. Full scholarship to a great University. And this happens on her day.

Funny thing is how unbothered by it she is. This is one of the best schools in New Orleans but the gun culture affects everyone the same.
