Biz: Walmart to offer new truck drivers $95K-$110K a year to combat shortage

John Oliver touched on this.

Some highlights.

  • Driver retention is the issue. >100% turnover.
  • Drivers are independent contractors - they're responsible for maintenance, gas, you name it. (11:25). Lady made 150k gross but ended with 22k net... fuel costs were 100k (got damn).
  • They get paid by the mile. But not when they're loading/unloading which can take hours. Imagine not getting paid for 3-19+ hours...waiting at the ports
  • Some get stuck with predatory lease-to-own truck agreements. At the end of the day, they can owe the trucking company on payday...(17:05)

Yeah, I've heard Walmart has one of the best starting pay for truckers. Suggesting this to my young relatives . But you have to have experience and a clean and on time record. You can't just come out of CDL and expect to get hired by them. I hear they want at least 3 years of good record before hire.

Fuck Walmart. I finally was able to get my hands on the new Xbox in stock last week. It was supposed to come today. Swear to God these muthafuckas sent me a text message about 5 o'clock this morning saying it was delayed :hmm:

They had it available the last few months for Walmart + members.

Yeah, it was available several places over the past year. But usually some package deal or crazy high price. This is the first time I was able to get it at $499 no issues. And now it's delayed? It's not even the fact that it's delayed. These bastards had a nerve to text message me at five in the morning saying it was delayed, on my day off? Fuck out of here

I sent this to a few people, I was told that you will have to work like shit to make that 110K.

The Walton family is the richest family on the Forbes list the past 2 decades......

Yet their company is the biggest welfare queen in the nation

The high cost to taxpayers, for those low prices

We're getting charged twice!!
One of them is trying to buy the Broncos.

In any second someone can kill you though. It can happen anywhere but driving a NYC BUS isn't a dope job man.
That shit is hell and you know it.

MTA pays me $80,000 ($110,000 with OT) to drive a bus in NYC plus Health ,Vision, Dental ,I'm home every night No thanks Walmart

Here’s a joke for you..there’s people that sit at the bus depots and just drive the buses around in the lotts all day..no passengers, they don’t even really have to suit up… when you connected in the mta u’ll be surprised on what jobs are available or what lil you have to do to get paid

I believe you 10,000%. So you are right and I do stand corrected. If you are in the know a civil service job does beat any job hands down. You can have dope hours still get over time.....

But in general driving a bus is more dangerous than driving the train imo.

Just know, the experience that they require you to have to even qualify for their OTR gigs is substantial lol. Don't think you're going to just get a CDL and get picked up for one of these gigs. I have a friend that does this and I think he was OTR for something like 12 years before he even applied. And that was with no tickets or accidents on his record. Also when they say OTR, they mean that shit for real. Those DC's hump 24/7.

NOTE - Did you know that Walmart doesn't sell Amazon gift cards because Walmart consider Amazon it's biggest competitor.

Why Is Walmart Closing Stores Suddenly 2022?

The first reason is that the retailer is changing its business model to become more attractive to online shoppers. More customers are shopping online than ever before, which explains why the company is shifting its focus towards the digital realm.

After hearing the information, many people wonder is Walmart going out of business, but it’s just a business transformation.

The company plans to close some physical stores by 2022. It will put the money into optimizing its website and app, amongst other things, to provide an efficient, high-quality service that meets the needs of these new consumers.

The retail landscape is changing as customers demand more online and as online giants like Amazon continue to grow in size and scope. Walmart is doing what it needs to do to support such an industry shift by ensuring its services remain efficient, fast, and reliable!

After looking at that news report that came out yesterday about the decline in population some of these corporation are just running out of people to fill positions so they have to sweeten the pot a little bit. I said this in another thread America is going to have to face the Music that the white male population is declining super fast in this country and Covid has made it declined even faster.

I hear you man but I enjoy my Job and if your from NYC I drive the M35 , I never had any issues "knock on wood"

Same here being a train operator (made $126k with OT last year. Being on the rails or the road all day is bad enough, I would not want to do trucking long distance for a living.
Some people like that shit. My former neighbors (husband and wife) were truck drivers and would be on the road for 6 months straight.

That's funny because all the Walmarts in my area were expanded to Super Centers but they also added pick up areas.
