And biggie said he didn't write Kim's shit, and never dissed Pac

George Lucas had all 6 films planned the whole timeeeee

George R.R. Martin knows how his story will end

I look at the facts, not the obvious bullshit.
When anyone identifies themselves as biracial it's well known they don't identify as black. It's right there in writing.

You're confusing culture and color. Samoan is not a color it's a culture. If you want to make a point that he doesn't identify with foundational black American culture then I agree with you but as far as skin color he is black. The same would apply to former Red Sox baseball player David Ortiz. His skin color is black but his culture is Dominican. Another example is Wyclef Jean. His skin color is black but his culture is Haitian.

But the Rock is from the United States. Here when your biracial African + anything else = Black... He got off the ground with his 'black' gimmick when his faggoty Samoan gimmick failed. Now that it's all said and done he does and he got popular, nothing but flaunt his Samoan heritage both in ring and in real life (which in real life he's only ever presented himself Samoan)..
When he's asked, instead of saying I'm black he does the biracial schtick.
Everyone whose ever done that only does that because if they deny their blackness it's outrage.

How will it derail the thread? It's a slow wrestling news day. Just say what you disagree with; I'll have a final response and that will be the end of it. I won't say anything further on the issue.

Alright man, let's do this then!

Black is a culture, with subcategories to it. Black/Samoan, Blackzilian, Black Africans, etc... But these Black/Samoan's are REAL quick to want nothing to do with their black side. The Rock carries himself like a Pacific Islander. Tattoos, roles he takes. Two+ major films have him doing a Haka. How many roles have been unapologetically black? Have you ever seen him with the black side of his family besides his father?

If he wants to embrace that side who the fcuk am I, that is his life. But don't cart him out when it is convenient on Black History month or when you want to make a counter argument to how WWE treats its black Superstars. Or magically he has a role coming out that is finally black and he's done decades leaning into racial ambiguity and wants to secure that black dollar.

Valid point and as promised my final response to this topic is I was speaking about his skin color rather than culture. You're talking about culture and that's a perfectly fine assessment. In the system of white supremacy there's no such thing as biracial, Samoan, Brazilian, Puerto Rican, etc. It's just white and non white and if you're non white they automatically label you black. Tiger Woods labeled himself as Cablinasian but when he got arrested the police wrote his color as black. In closing I recognize the Rock as a black champion just not a black American cultural champion.

All love homie! It wasn't so much derailing between you and I, but from others disagreeing and or agreeing with you and I. But I have said my piece and don't need to respond after that.

His film roles not being "black" is kind of unfair though. He's in a different tax bracket as a actor. I think you can say the same thing about the big role Will, Denzel, etc. take. Will's "Oscar pushes" are more black roles but when he's doing big budget films like the Rock does? They are never unapologetically black. In part because those roles could've been given to anyone of any race .

Rock's samoan side seems to be important to him. But at the end of the day he's biracial and his pops was black. HE can't run way from his black side.....

I do get what you're saying because as a wrestler he most def. was more samoan than black but shit I kind of can't blame him because if you black you're doomed in WWE lol.

Yeah, that's where I got lost. That's more of a testament to the racism in Hollywood.

If they want to have a black-acting character in a movie, they're gonna get someone who is identifiably black to emphasize that this character is a black person. They don't put the Rock in these roles because they have plenty of black/black actors they could use, and also because of discussions like these where people act like the Rock ain't black or "black enough."

When you're that big of an actor, they just put you in roles or make roles for you where you're basically just yourself, but with a different backstory. Or they might put him in a Samoan role if they wanna tap into that market since there aren't a lot of big Samoan actors.

But I think it only seems like he's more into his Samoan side because Samoans actually have a culture that is somewhat exclusive to Samoans. We as African-Americans don't have that because we sell our culture to the white man or it's stolen from us.

For instance, when I see a brown person with a tribal tattoo, I would think there was a good chance that person is Samoan. What is the equivalent of that for black people in America?

Our culture as African-Americans is basically Hip-hop, Fashion, Slavery and Civil Rights.

Agree 100%. It’s a good point about Samoans in wrestling too….he’d be a fool not to acknowledge his families legendary history in the business.

Most roles the Rock is in he is usually SUPER racially ambiguous and his love interests are mostly white. Samoan and black mix that nose should be wide as fcuk! Nose job and now looks more European. Hair cut low or bald so you don't see the curls or kinks. Like I said; Be whoever he wants to be, my issue is when it is time for Black anything don't cart this dude out that he is black. When in reality he doesn't showcase ANYTHING black about him.

Sure super cute scene in a movie, but always showcases his Samoan ancestry:

Also that daughter STRAIGHT Samoan, so Black what?!?!

But that is only one time no way they'd double dip an not give love to his African ancestry in the same movie franchise:
NOPE!

So that was an action franchise. Family films are much more inclusive:
FCUK YO FEELINGS!!!

You know, I seem to remember the Rock being in a Tyler Perry movie those are usually a full black cast with a white villain so Rock MUST be black in that right?
This scene was SO insignificant that there isn't even a video clip of it and only a snippet of the scene on Wikipedia:
One year later, as Patricia exits a university building she is approached by a colleague. She tells Patricia that she knows someone who wants to meet her, a philanthropist, but Patricia refuses. The professor goes on to tell her that she can at least say hi because the university needs funds. The man (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) tells her that her books have helped in his grieving process (divorce) and invites her to have coffee. The movie ends with Patricia smiling at him.

DERAILED!!!
And white folks will culture vulture ANYTHING that they deem "cool":

And don't get me started on how Disney has done a straight Polynesian movie (Moana), Latinx movie (Encanto) and all we got was a bastardized Brothers Grimm story (Princess and the Frog) and Soul none of which has anything to do with Black or African and the characters could be replaced with ANY ethnicity!

Our culture is so RICH and DEEP, but so much of it gets sold off and then relabeled as white we tend to forget it was ours in the first place! Rock isn't a white genre of music! WE made it our bytch, made it so that NOBODY else could emulate it and when a bunch of butter-toothed Brits came along and showed a little love we gave it away. Notice anything similar with Rap? Being from Detroit MI I get to see the same thing happening first hand: Eminem, Proof, Jay Dee...enjoy it while we got it, cause white folks have already crowned Eminem as the King of Hip Hop.

You panicking…it’s actually a good topic on a wrestler…..the Rock discussion is always a good one IMO. I think both sides bring up good points which is why I think it’s a good discussion.

Trust me I have no problem talking about it, I just don't want to take away from the purpose of the thread or get into a point of "arguing" over the ethnicity of a dude that doesn't give two shyts about the forum, thread or those in it.

What about The Rock character was Samoan or black? Any ethnicity could have played that character so acknowledging his families history does nothing for the character. He could have done the same thing as Rocky Miavia and Rocky Miavia would still suck

I mean shit he was in the Nation of Domination. I get Owen Hart was too but he came across more black then he did post Nation IMO. That Samoan ancestry took a backseat or at least that's how I remember it I was young lol. ]]

That's what I was getting with on the films he does. Rock does big budget films. There's a rare occasion the Samoan ancestry pop up bust mostly they are roles that could and probably were intended for someone white to play. Same goes for Denzel. I mean shit Denzel got a movie out right now where he's playing MacBeth lol.

And maybe I didn't pay enough attention because I was kind of peeping it when my daughter was watching it but I felt like Soul was a black film that paid homage to Jazz and the culture.

What was black about post Nation of Domination Rock...HELL WHAT WAS BLACK ABOUT NATION OF DOMINATION ROCK?!?!?! Everybody (minus Owen) had some kind of Red, Black and Green on their trunks if I recall except for him.

I get it 3 isn't a lot especially compared to his catalog of movies. But 3 high budget movies compared to him wearing a SoulMan shirt which is a nod to his father in Ballers, which you won't know it unless you REALLY follow wrestling is a huge discrepancy:
ballers1x07soulmanrockyjohnsontshirt.jpg

Comparing The Rock to Denzel and the roles they take/get is like comparing a Ferrari to a Rolls Royce. Both expensive, luxury cars but they are NOT going to be used the same way. People write roles thinking of a Rock type. Denzel TAKES roles! Denzel playing MacBeth is the equivalent of a broom playing MacBeth...if the broom could act its ass off and was an Oscar award winning actor. Denzel's ethnicity isn't brought up in the movie. If you've ever been to a play, that is how that movie is being directed. Like an all black cast of Oklahoma, the cast ethnicity doesn't come into play only the acting and singing.

And Soul was Jazz and the impact on him, his family and his "corner" of New York.
