Every Friend I know that Rides a Motorcycle has had wrecks no it just not for me

Get the damn bike! I’ve been riding since ‘02. Started out on a Yamaha r6. Do NOT start out on a 1000cc supersport. Please!!! That 600 is enough to get you in trouble quick. Upgrade down the road (because you’ll change bikes every few years anyway if you’re really into it).

But the best advice I ever got and I’m repeating what one of the previous posters said: ride like you’re invisible - remember that. Almost every time you pull the bike out someone is gonna just get over into your lane like you weren’t even there. It happens constantly. Stay out of their blind spots. Never road rage either. Respect how vulnerable you really are out there. Use your speed and agility to your advantage - but don’t do stupid shit.

I love it and wouldn’t give it up for shit.

I remember the starter bike back in the day was the Honda 360 ..... dealer made a killing in my hood ..... lil kids had MB 5's .....

The first one looked unavoidable the second one looked like it could've been avoided..

Even though that was some final destination shit
It seems as if the second one could have been avoided, but you had no idea which way that carpet was going to turn. If it would have turned to the left the driver would have avoided it but it turned to the right.

Me? I won't fuck with motorcycles. When I was 14 my brother came home and told me of an accident he saw with a motorcycle.

He saw a shredded bike, a leg, and arm and a helmet with the head still in it all scattered along the highway.

Fuck that. I know you can die in a car accident if you have a much better chance on four wheels than two

Got my first bike 2012 BMW F800 ST a few weeks ago. Still got paper tags so I'm probably the newest rider in this thread. I went from oh jeezus I'm sitting on a engine to how do u pop a wheelie on this bitch in about 3 weeks. Let me discuss my journey so far.

First choose how u want to sit. On a chopper your feet are typically in front of your shoulders. Your mentality is more relaxed. On a street bike your feet are behind you and your head is forward. You are basically in a 3/4 flying position. It makes u want to zoom. My bike looks aggressive but the ST means street touring so its a hybrid. My feet, shoulders, and head are almost straight up and down while sitting.

I went to a bike shop about 6 months earlier and just sat on different bikes. Tell them ur new and ur not buying but wanna see wut its about. They will respect that and not over sales pitch you.
I didn't like my feet behind me plus sport bikes can get cramped. I'm 6'3 250. After sitting on 2 sport bikes I knew it wasn't for me. The choppers were nice but to expensive. I sat on a Honda Africa Twin and fell in love. Dreamed about it, but they were all brand new release (no used ones yet). Couldn't justify 12k so I said I'll wait a few yrs and get one cheaper.

Started looking into what bike was like it. And the Beamer GS was top of the list. Went to the BMW dealer with 5k cash. Told them take my cash now or imma get something from any old bike shop for 3k. I got the brother of the bike I really wanted. I didnt want to finance anything.

Had it delivered that day. The guy showed me how to run through the gears sitting still. Then I wz on my own. I dropped it taking it off the center stand. Never rode it and it was laying on it side. I never want to see it laying down again so its my motivation to be safe. Picking up a bike is a technique. ...learned it on youtube.

Took me 4 days to get enough speed for 3rd gear. I have a quarter mile paved driveway. Then I started neighborhood cruising early in the am. I got chased by dogs 3 times & one caught me. He just wanted to play, we raced. That wz motivation to focus on coordination. Now I zoom b4 they think about it.

My new level is turning. If u dnt lean its like doing a u turn in an airplane. I lean a little now, just enough to not run off the road in a turn. Speed is involved with leaning and I'm still at 35-40 mph max.

Everytime I get better at something I feel like I graduated that technique and it seems easy now.

This post is long enough. Tommorow we can discuss riding gear. That shit never ends!!

750 or 600 would be a good starter. Should be able to find a good used for 3k or so.

Im a fan of the Yamaha R6 and the Honda CBR. But like everything it comes down to prefernce. Can’t go wrong with any of the 4 Big Japanese brands
For a beginner? NO!!!! Those things are wheelie monsters, and not for newbies. For a beginner, I'd suggest a Katana 600, and then move to a Gixxer 6 or a CBR.

2 or 3 years ago I seen a brotha right after he crashed, he was laying in the middle of the street, dead! :smh:

Here at my job it seems like every other year someone is killed riding their bike home from work or on their way to work.. I'm not getting on one of those death machines.

Man I will never forget. I was riding down I20 east in Atlanta late one night and I was in my car doing at least 70-76 mph.

I look to my left and a dude on a bike had popped a wheelie and was standing of the back wheels with his Arms out in the Jesus on the cross pose and flew by me. So he had to be doing over 80 plus

Here in Texas, due to seeing an abundance of riders in nothing but sandals, shorts and T-shirt’s (no helmet or anything else), I’m guessing bike laws are looser here. I see everything from full consumer protective wear to cats wearing baseball caps and cutting through traffic like they do in California.

I went down on the Garden State Parkway. Muthafucka switched lanes in front of me and clipped my front tire like I wasn't even there. 65 mph I went one way and the bike went another, rolled for about 300 feet. Luckily this brother blocked my body with his car and dragged me to the side of the road. I ended up with 3 fractured ribs, a lacerated spleen and some pretty bad road rash. Luckily I had on all my gear and it saved me from being a lot worse off.

I loved riding, and miss the hell out of it. But I love a wife and kids more! If I was single I'd be on a bike right now, but seeing the look on my friends and family faces while I was in that hospital bed is enough to keep me off 2 wheels.

I was driving a car last yr in the rain. Lighting struck a tree and it landed on the car. The front and rear bumper blew off about 30 ft. Men with chainsaws had to make a path to me. But they had to wait about half an hr till the city cut the power b/c fallen power lines were mixed in the leaves and branches. 911 had me blow my horn in a SOS pattern so firemen could pin point where I was in the tree. That's how big it wz. At that point I decided to get a bike. Minus wale go out living my dreams. Culda died that day. And I was doin 35 with a seatbelt on and a damn tree hit me!!

Y'all got me reliving that shit now. A tree that could crush a house hit me in a car. I was breaking no laws, minding my own business. Came out without a scratch but the car was totaled on site. The adjuster said he didn't have to fill out a value form. There was no way the car would ever be driven again.

:eek2: .....

I actually witnessed an accident similar to the second video of the OP. Man and his chick were riding in the far left lane when a guy about 5 car lengths in a pickup lost his load. They tried to avoid the boxes but end up hitting them. Chick got tossed and rolled (luckily she got up and limped to the side of the ride). The dude and the bike slid for a few more feet. It was enough to make me say "nah, I'll stick to cars." Plus every year like clockwork there are horrible wrecks around the beltway. I've lost a couple of friends behind it.

Yeah he had a sick ass busa.

I love my bikes, and I am gonna ride till I die.
Another attention whore thread title that totally misrepresents the video. The rider didnt have a wreck the careless chump on an auto caused an accident.

People in cars tend to forget about us on on bikes, especially when changing lanes. People in cars tend to think they own the fucking road anyway. Bike riders generally dont cause accidents, its auto drivers that do.

what happened to trufiction?

but anyway...i love riding....yes you may get hurt...or worse

but isnt that true of anything?

cars wreck...planes crash....shyt people die in the bed....

when its your time...its your time....

not into living life scared

People die in cars everyday B.

U ever laid it down tho??

hell yes ive laid it down!

thats part of it....when i rode bicycles i went down on them too....thats how it goes....

ive gotten some road rash...couple twisted ankles...nothing worse than that....

my dream is to ride a bike all over the world....advrider.com has forums where guys do that....soon as im able im gone breh.

i agree man

the amount of dumb shyt i see car drivers do when im on my bike is shocking....

the cell phone shyt is out of control

people doing 80 looking down at the phone :smh:

Biker riders always get the blame, splitting lanes is legal. There should be basic shit on the dl test to protect bike riders.

One of my closest friends rode for like 15 to 20 yrs and stopped cold turkey after almost getting clipped. He was in a bike crew and everything. He said over the years almost every one he know that ride has been hit, killed or hurt bad on their bike and almost getting hit was enough for him to quit.
I'll never forget this shit, I was 14 years old and I was on punishment and my brother went out somewhere with my uncle. He came home and told me he saw a motorcycle accident and while they were driving he saw a leg and arm and a helmet with the head still in it. I knew right then and there I would never ride a motorcycle ever in my life

Naa just came around the turn to fast and panic. Appears they hit the brake hard (front) which will cause the bike to stand up and go straight. This why they smack into the car. Instead he should’ve lean harder to his lane while letting off the throttle. And trust the ability of the bike they design to lean.

As a motorcycle rider probably was a great move for you. You already thinking bad stuff instead of the good stuff. Only thing I don’t understand is people lose arms, legs and even their life in car accidents. But it doesn’t prevent people from getting a car. Paul Walker, Henry Ruggs killed the lady in his C8, Bruce Jenner killed the lady in his Escalade, the young kid that Lebron James best friend agent recruited for the NBA died at a light forgot his name. My co-worker died in his Dodge Charger 392 last year going home.

Overall the light gets shine bright when it comes to motorcycles. Be safe out here in whatever you do!

True, you can die in a car just the same. Thousands of people died in cars every year in America

But, like playing football without pads and playing football with pads, the pads give you more protection. And though you could die just the same, your odds of dying without the pads increase drastically

I'm going to keep driving and you're going to keep riding and hopefully both of us get to our last day dying of old age or something other than an accident

Same here. Either had wrecks or at least had a bad or minor accident.

I lost one of my best childhood friends a few years ago when he lost control of his motorcycle.

Fuck those things. If I get a fender bender in my truck, the worse is a headache of dealingbworh insurance companies.

Same accident on a bike and you are probably dead....or at least picking gravel off your shins.

EXACTLY

That's why I roll in a Tundra with rugged IRON front and rear bumpers slapped on. I get that bikes are thrilling when the weather is beautiful but they offer no protection if another vehicle loses control, heading towards you, even when being a safe biker.
