More of a shortage than anything. Prices started going up right after covid.
Hipsters made 'em high priced.
Nah, they were getting high in price before COVID.
The last time we had them, I bought a whole tail from the curb market on Auburn Ave., and had them cut it for me.

Wasnt the hipsters in my hood it was us damn Jamaicans.
Lot of things that we buy now they use to give away for free at the butcher shop.
Fish head, pig tail and cow and pig foot was trash in the northeast bronx when I just came here.
After a while, Mr Butcherman started getting hip to our delicacies and hit it w a price tag.

Haven’t bought oxtail in a minute for that reason. Last time I got some was from a farmers market and they had them for $12 had like 2 dozen or more oxtails for that price.
I made a request from my local Amish market if they could get some for a decent price but forgot to go back there to see.

We use to wait til the end of the day to get the Italian mans scraps until one day it was packed in ice w a price tag.

Never. Not in this lifetime. I'll be on my deathbed asking for more. Used to grab them at the military commissary for $5 now they 10-14 dollars for a 3-4 pack. But $35? Nah, that's ribeye territory there son!

my wife and I love fine dining and believe me, those restaurants have oxtails on the menu ….white folk menus. Off the bone on bruschetta. One recipe I love is shredded over pappardelle pasta with white wine sauce…..the list go on and on.
at least 5 or 6 years…and that’s being conservative. Used to talk to my wife’s grandfather about it and he been dead for five years or more.
Thighs still are at certain places. Farmers Market, Aldis etc. Oxtails done got ridiculous though.

Yeah, but not that damn expensive. I just bought some last week from Wegmans and it ran me $26, but it was like 8 or so in the pack.
Last time I paid $11per lb for some Ox Tails was the last time I bought them. I gotta chalk it up to another thing from the culture that' price got too inflated since it got popular.

I usually go to a butcher and they have been 8-9 per pound.
I also don't buy prepackaged shit cause they are too thick....I buy whole tails and have them cut them for me.
I like my maybe 1 1/2 inches thick and trim that extra fat off them.
Shit even smoked meat for seasoning beans and greens have gone up..
The caribbean/spanish supermarkets usually have the best prices if you buy in large quantities 5lb+

Now...
Was in the grocery yesterday (HEB) and yeah, it's now $9 and change which is beyond nuts.
We won't be having any for Thanksgiving/Xmas.
