Do y'all know how to put together a Federal resume? The format is akin to telling the story of how you acquired the skills needed to fill the position that you're applying for.

Of course, throw in all of the keywords and phrases that are used in the job description so your resume gets picked up by HRs search.

we call it a 45. but make sure it highlights your.....
  • Ability to analyze, research, and evaluate to draw accurate conclusions
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to communicate orally
  • Ability to communicate in writing
  • Ability to train, coach, mentor and lead others
a lot of jobs are specialized experience. so if you show you can communicate and work together well in a team setting you should be good.
plus if prior military you get bonus points added to your score

from a job opening I appied for
Your SSA-45 must specifically demonstrate, in your own words, the possession of the required experience related to the minimum qualifications, selective placement factors and/or evaluation criteria. Information that is copied or restated language from the vacancy announcement and/or position description will not be considered. If this occurs, you may lose consideration for one or more grade levels or found ineligible.

Thanks for the info. When I DID work for the VA, I submitted a conventional resume and never heard back from them. When the vacancy came around again, I resubmitted another one...I got an email that said that I wasn't qualified.

Later on while at an appointment at the hospital, I dropped by HR and asked about it. They then told me how to structure my 45 and things that I needed to highlight...tips and what have you.

This WAS a Sister too so perhaps she was just on the lookout for my resume. This was in Facilities Maintenance though...carpentry, not anything medical. I did really light jobs like replacing paper towel/toilet paper dispensers, touch up painting, etc. that Housekeeping had been doing outside of their craft.

Thinking back, this was when Obama put an emphasis on getting disabled Vets into jobs at the VA or other Federal employment also. That may have been a factor as well. :dunno:
