TV Debate: The Wire - Why Bomani Jones HATES Stringer Bell & Prop Joe & all those who root for them

I'll take it deeper - Stringer made the same mistake most "low" criminals make... they imagine the game changes as you climb the ladder / classes
and do business with "legal" assets and established / respected business people. Only to learn they dealing with even lower moral, character, and many times competence

"how are you never gonna be a little slow?
how are you never gonna be a little late?"

Stringer & Marlo was a mistake - those meetings shouldn't have happened
Stringer & Muzone in the hospital was a mistake -no different than D'angelo and the murder charge s1e1
Avon & Marlo was a mistake - Avon started a war w/o getting intel and learning who his enemy was

Omar and Muzone getting Stringer wasn't a mistake... thats just the game

with any variation in events / luck Omar and Muzone never initially speak
further if Avon wasn't exited by the fight with Marlo,
or if somehow he achieved the clarity he had after Stringer's death - earlier...
Avon doesn't give Muzone the info

yup, That's life bro

flip of the coin

Chance favors the prepared mind BUT

there is so much EMOTION

as much as thugs and gangstas and shooters CLAIM not to have any...

Emotions play a big part cause we all human.

a WHOLE lot of supposed codes, honor and loyalty was bent and broken to set these chain of events into motion too.

One comment, one "joke", some detergent and an audit?

A whole lot of sh*t can go off the rails.

I was NOT GONNA SAY ANYTHING!!!!

that was WEIRD Bo don't usually slip like that...

cause he said day one...

I aint saying SH*T about that man

and then he got with the white boy and jumped out the window.

But I DO think Bo was TRYING to slander.

(sidebar: salute to Bomani for being the only person on ESPN to discuss the Stephen A smith situation ON RECORD maturely and honestly)

Nah..Stringer wasn't a lame, he just didn't have what Avon had AND Avon didn't have what Stringer had...if they had been able to understand that it could have been different. What is wrong with giving up corners, moving into wholesale and legit business?

Nothing if you do it the right way
Stringer didn't

He didn't consider anything but what he wanted

Fuck the consequences.

What did Marlo say after he left the roach infested area? Barksdale is weak. How did he come to that conclusion? Because Barksdale second in command is a jackass. Chris would never do some shit like that.

Think of it as a bacteria wall. If you can penetrate the cell wall you can enter the sickness and break that mothafucka apart.

Excellent point here!! And not just applicable to "criminals", but true for anyone who moves up the social ladder to "higher" classes or into the corporate world. One of the things I liked about the Trump presidency is that it blatantly showed how real this is.

I'm never gonna cosign the dude who wrote black men are white supremacy dude
In fact its ironic he's writing this as he's stringer himself

He used to read this board as well.

The game doesn't change but the weapons of war do and that, by the very nature of what you're fighting with, changes the game to an extent. To your point tho... the moral and ethical fiber of those on higher levels (even the competence) might be less than what you expected but the ruthlessness is often the differentiator. This is a world run but phsycos and sociopaths... on certain levels there are better people but usually those people are the ones who came into their wealth without running the gauntlet... so essentially I agree with you 100% (just a lot of nuance to the rule).

i love the wire. i love that they created a classic that is chock full of serious discussions about american life. i love that these conversations are happening out in the open and not exclusively in a university classroom. In this case i love that Bomani (just like any one of us can do) is being a "professor" with a point of view and challenging "conventional wisdom" out in the open and making people examine how it is they thought this nxgga Strang was a "good guy".

Whoa D was bout to snitch... Strings actions were valid

He was about to snitch when he originally got popped with weight, but Brianna talked him out of it. He had already been sentenced and just wanted to be left alone. What's to snitch on? Avon and String changed up their entire operation after season 1 and Bey and Bird took the murders.

Then you'd be leaving your fate up to very shaky chance. Theres so much to snitchbon. That's Avons nephew, knows mad shot about the inner workings of their drug empire.. Theres literally everything to snitch on..
That's not smart. Stringer is smart.

Nah, after D's murder trial, Avon put a lot space between him and D. He was just working the pit and wasnt up on new shit. He was the last to know Stinkum had been promoted and was given his own corner plus points on packages. Thats the main reason Orlando came to him with the side deal. He knew they were both odd men out.

And I don't think Sting was smart at all. He was in over his head. That's why he got caught up. He played himself on the legitimate business side and on the street side. Thats not smart. You're entitled to your opinion though.

you were not paying attention- Freeman McNulty Daniels and Pearlman said multi times -how many ways they couldn't legally connect Avon to the drugs
murders... Avon only went in as part a group deal (7 years, up for parole in 2)

Avon giving D the instructions for the NY pickup is what D can give up while recanting his confession- Avon in the bag as a shot caller RICO
Stringer was supervising D the whole time in the pit - AND - the middle man for D on the hit of Omar boyfriend -Stringer in the bag + murder conspiracy

I promise I try to tell these dudes, but they just want to have their feelings independent of the events in the show.
This is why I don't debate with people about this particular show much.
It seems they watch it like a cartoon or your run of the mill soap opera. I'm not so sure 85% of the people who say they watched it, truly get it.

Recant a confession after he's already been convicted and sentenced? Ok. Im talking everything post conviction. Of course I know he could've given up everybody right after he got popped. That's not what I'm talking about.
