You must not live in NY. Crime is out of control. Homeless people and the mentally ill are all over the place. Public transliteration is dangerous as fuck, especially the trains. The criminal justice system is pretty much catch and release now. People commit violent crimes such as shootings, robbery and assault then they are given ridiculously low bail and released back into the neighborhoods up until they murder someone. There's no reason that your son should be killed by a guy that got arrested for stabbing a woman. Then arrested again for shooting someone while out on bail. Finally he murders your son while he's on bail for both cases.
Everything is ridiculously expensive including rent. People are leaving the city in droves which is running up the prices of houses upstate and in long Island. So now people are leaving the state altogether.
Oh yeah, the city is pretty much broke. Deblasio was spending money like a madman. Dude put up over a billion dollars for his wife's thrive nyc program that was supposed to help New Yorkers with mental health issues. No one can account for what was done with the money.
I'd love to hear what other New Yorkers on the board think. Since the people you know say that New York city is doing good.

Are you a Republican? I know NYC is having issues, but I figured it was because of Covid and nit because of some major fuck uo by the mayor.
How would you want him to stop crime, by locking up Black young men for minor offenses, like what Giuliani did? It might make the city safer, at the expense of thousands of innocent Black people. Republicans think that’s a fair exchange.

I was 17 when he first took office. I didn't vote altogether but I didn't notice a bunch of major issues during the 9 years that he was mayor.
I'm a Democrat these issues have been going on long before covid. Deblasio inherited a safe city that was loaded with cash. He left us with a broke crime ridden city where even working class people have to go through the shelter system to get an apartment.
That's one of the issues. People assume that only turnstile jumpers and New Yorkers with a little weed are released. Damn near everybody is released. The scenario I talked about with the dude shooting a guy, stabbing a girl then murdering someone while he's out on bail for those 2 cases is 100% real. The mayor also had the nypd crime unit disbanded. The crime unit is was made specifically to get guns off the street. We have multiple shootings every day and tons of murders.
The number 1 concern of most New Yorkers is crime in the city. Deblasio hasn't done a single thing to curb crime in a city that is exploding with violence. If you look into the mayoral election you'll see that most candidates are running on a platform of curbing crime in the city.

Again you don't live in NY. If you did you would know that bloomberg served 3 terms. He was mayor from 2001-2013. I'm 37 and the man was mayor for most of my adult life. So how did I come at the end of the bloomberg era?
