Arrow alum David Ramsey is returning to the Arrowverse, in multiple (and occasionally mysterious!) ways.
Some 10 months after Arrow signed off, Ramsey is set to direct a total of five episodes of upcoming Arrowverse seasons — including at Supergirl and freshman spinoff Superman & Lois (which bows Feb. 23, 2021), our sister site Deadline reports.
Ramsey previously directed two episodes of Arrow, where he was an OG cast member: Season 7’s “Past Sins” and the final season’s time-loopy “Reset.”
On camera, Ramsey will guest-star as Arrow‘s John Diggle in a total of five episodes across The Flash (which opens Season 7 on Feb. 23), Supergirl, Batwoman (Season 2 premieres Jan. 17) and Superman & Lois.

But most curiously, he will play “a mystery role” during Legends of Tomorrow‘s sixth season.

As Arrow‘s series finale drew to a close, Diggle was packing up to move with his family to Metropolis when a meteor crashed nearby, slamming him against a moving van. After shaking off the blow, Dig combed through the debris to discover a mysterious box, which, upon being opened, emitted a bright green light — seemingly nodding at the character’s long-speculated Green Lantern destiny.

“I don’t know what that means,” Ramsey said at a press screening. “But he does go to Metropolis, and he got a green box. We’ll still see, believe it or not. We’ll find out.”

Arrowverse EP Marc Guggenheim in turn told TVLine, “Greg [Berlanti], David and I have had a lot of conversations about David’s future in the Arrowverse going forward, both in front [of] and behind the camera, and there are a lot of ideas that we’re banding about that are very exciting to us… He’s on The Flash [in a February 2020 appearance], and we’ve just got some cool notions for next season.”

I think its obvious that the mystery role is of him as a Lantern..on both LoT and possibly Superman & Lois

So is the canary spin off still happening?

It's dead now..

It's dead now..

wow...

I really thought after the Black Lightning and Supergirl cancellation they would keep it just for legacy reasons

‘Arrow’ Spinoff ‘Green Arrow and The Canaries’ Not Going Forward At the CW, ‘The 100’ Prequel Still Alive

The CW is officially not moving forward with Green Arrow and the Canaries, its planned spinoff from long-running superhero series Arrow. Green Arrow and The Canaries aired as an episode of Arrow‘s final season in January. The other outstanding CW planted spinoff, The 100 prequel, which aired as part of the survival drama’s final season, remains in contention. The options on the casts of both offshoots expired last year.

“They are very much in active discussions to see what we can do,” the CW President Mark Pedowitz said in May about the fate of both projects, produced by Warner Bros. TV. “I’ve had many discussions with Warner Bros, we have a strategy involved — hopefully we can pull it off.”

I hear the network and the studio explored the idea of the Green Arrow and the Canaries and The 100 prequel running jointly on the CW and WarnerMedia’s HBO Max. (Arrow and The 100 stream on Netflix.) With all of the CW’s newer series, following the end of the output deal with Netflix, available on HBO Max, that was considered a viable possibility. It could still happen for The 100 prequel.

Starring Katherine McNamara, Katie Cassidy and Juliana Harkavy, Green Arrow and the Canaries was set in 2040 in Star City and Mia Queen (McNamara) had everything she could have ever wanted. However, when Laurel (Cassidy) and Dinah (Harkavy) suddenly showed up in her life again, things took a shocking turn and her perfect world is upended.

Tara Miele directed the episode written by Arrow showrunner Beth Schwartz & co-creator/executive producer Marc Guggenheim, executive producer Jill Blankenship and co-executive producer Oscar Balderrama. The project hailed from Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros Television.

Mia Queen Actress Heartbroken Over Green Arrow & The Canaries Cancellation
Mia Queen actress, Katherine McNamara has expressed her heartbreak over The CW's sudden decision to cancel Green Arrow and the Canaries.
BY ROSE MCDONALD2 DAYS AGO

Actress Katherine McNamara, who played Mia Queen in the Arrow spinoff, Green Arrow and the Canaries, expresses her heartbreak over The CW's decision to cancel the highly anticipated show. Green Arrow and the Canaries story was planted as a "backdoor pilot" in the Arrow series finale and was intended to be a continuation of the Arrow universe with Mia Queen taking up her father's mantle as the new Green Arrow.
The final episode of Arrow season 8 uses its closing moments to reveal Mia Queen's return to Star City in 2040 after time traveling to attend her father's funeral in 2020. Green Arrow and the Canaries would have been set in Star City in 2040 and follow the future adventures of Mia and the Black Canaries, Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy) and Dinah Drake (Juliana Harkavy). With the news of the show's cancellation, however, what roles (if any) Mia, Laurel, and Dinah will now have in the Arrowverse is unclear.

Katherine McNamara took to Twitter after The CW announced the cancellation to share her heartbreak over the news. McNamara's journey on Arrow began when she first appeared in several flash forward scenes in season 7 before continuing as a series regular throughout the eighth and final season. McNamara clearly became attached to the role and likely thought she would have the chance to play Mia for some time. You can read McNamara's full tweet, below:

Prior to The CW's cancellation of Green Arrow and the Canaries, McNamara had frequently expressed her love for Arrow and Mia Queen and wished to continue playing the character in the Arrowverse. Arrow co-creator Marc Guggenheim seems to echo those sentiments, retweeting a post about hoping to see more of McNamara, Cassidy, and Harkavy in the Arrowverse with the comment, "Co-signed". Recent years have seen Guggenheim step back from the Arrowverse and he currently only serves as an executive producer on Legend of Tomorrow. Still, he may be able to use his influence to get Mia and the Canaries at least a guest spot on Legends or another CWverse show (as the Arrowverse is now officially called since Arrow ended).
After the mourning over the loss of Green Arrow and the Canaries among cast, crew, and fans alike, it has not been explicitly stated why The CW is not proceeding with the show. Many feel that The CW is passing up a great opportunity to move forward with a female-led superhero ensemble that could do quite well given the success of Arrow and the entire Arrowverse. It's too early to know where McNamara or Mia Smoak could appear again in the Arrowverse, but it'd be disappointing if McNamara and her co-stars aren't invited back in the near future.

I was NOT a big fan of Mia, I really thought Emiko SHOULD have gotten a lead role instead.

I wasn't a fan of Emiko either but she was more tolerable than Mia. They made both too much like Oliver. Mia have no traits from Felicity. William has some of Felicity than Mia and they're no blood related.

Emiko felt kinda rushed, they should have foreshadowed her,a few season before she was introduced...imo

I thought the way Emiko looked and moved and her acting was a good addition to the show.

This is,how I would have introduced Emiko,a shadowy figure interfering their missions. All of a sudden Emiko introduces herself as Oliver's sister... She would have to prove that she's Oliver's sister. When, the test prove she's is,the whole gang introduces themselves to her..Meanwhile,Emiko continues to interfere with Team Arrow's missions.

Oliver or a member of team Arrow tries to figure out,who the shadowy figure that keeps interfering their missions. They beat up members of the gangs around town but they don't know what they're talking about until one person heard of an organization but doesn't know the name of it.

Oliver starts to get suspicious and starts to question Emiko. Emiko denies being the shadowy figure. So,there's tension between those two while the rest of team Arrow are trying to tell Oliver he's wrong about his sister.

Emiko finds a way to sent a message to members of the Ninth Circle to dress up as the shadowy figure. While,Emiko is in the bunker with a couple of people from team Arrow the fake figure pops up and kills a couple of people. Team Arrow tells Oliver she possibly couple be the figure but Oliver doesn't believe it. It goes on for a full season until the next season comes and reveals that Emiko was the leader of the Ninth Circle and wanted revenge for what Oliver's dad did to her mother...

my only point was I think that the actress playing Emiko could pull that off VERY well and the actress playing Mia?

Not so much.

I feel like they REALLY don't know what the f*ck they wanna do at CW with now...

why LOSE all the Arrowverse goodwill?

Cause now Arrow, Supergirl gone Black Lightning gone Flash on its last legs

Bat=woman got a NEW lead so we have NO IDEA how that gonna work, Superman coming and already that looks wack

Stargirl is looking like that should be the MAIN show

Wondergirl and Painkiller coming

I still think they need to make sure to NEVER lose that Arrow foundation that held everything together.

They should have gotten the actress that played Quake's sister to play Emiko

hmmm...

Imma defend that girl who played Emiko to the death fam...

just go back and watch her highlights I thought she killed that

bookmark this...watch Marvel scoop her.

I need to see Stargirl and finish Batwoman,Flash and Supergirl

I need to see Stargirl and finish Batwoman,Flash and Supergirl

OK...

I myself aint finish Stargirl yet but EVERYTHING I HAVE SEEN?

OUTSTANDING!

you SHOULD finish Batwoman JUST BECAUSE especially with the controversy etc and the odd fact it ACTUALLY GOT BETTER

Flash is Flash, I am a fanboy for that show so Im biased but its the same old Flash take that as you will, it was fine. Too many beautiful Black woman on that show and the best Black dad on TV for me to criticize that show

Yo Supergirl pulled an Arrow and steady improved and even fixed a really dumb character arch choice and fixed the whole season.

So I just watched CW Superman and Lois and that shit is on point! I definitely see why this show was cancelled, I’m sure they can use the budget.
