A passenger at Orlando International Airport tried to bring 22lbs of crystal meth and a wad of cash onto a plane, later denying they were his, local police shared.

According to a release from the Orlando Police Department, a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) agent found the passenger - identified as 46-year-old Eli Brown - had the meth in his backpack during a random bag check at his layover.

Brown was waiting at gate 35 at around 8am on January 22 before boarding his flight to Louisville, Kentucky, ClickOrlando.com reports.

'It's one of the largest amounts of drugs anyone's recently tried to carry in person,' the police said in their release.

The drugs were worth a total of $500,000, cops added.

Brown also had $900 on him.

When interviewed by authorities, Brown claimed to have fallen asleep while at his gate after flying from Los Angeles.

Brown said that he noticed the bag next to him when he woke up, assuming it was his because he had an identical bag, an affidavit states.

The man was charged with trafficking in methamphetamine over 200 grams.
