In the previews they have a story for her. I doubt that her name doesn t have a significance

I think that's part of the genius of this show. It showcases how just trying to live a normal life as a black American in the Jim Crow era was a LITERAL horror story. Having to navigate between lynch mobs and crooked sheriffs while trying to grab lunch on a roadtrip is scary enough, the monsters were just the icing on the cake.
