It isn't what I want, it is what was expected.
When AEW was first announced, they said they would be the serious, sports related promotion, as an alternative to WWE.
They did say it would be sports based but I gathered that it would be in the aspects of rankings, statistics (Tony Khan is a stats guy) and workrate but I don't recall them using the word "serious". It was going to be a variety of a lot of different styles. The only promotion that does a true sports based presentation is New Japan and I definitely wasn't expecting that out of AEW. As long as you got the Young Bucks and Omega involved with the promotion you're gonna see goofy shit.
Hence why AEW is doing the goofy shit. NXT thinks the answer to low ratings is to put Charlotte Flair on their program every week.
Did people really think that AEW would be New Japan in sports presentation? I didn't.

They get supervised; Tony Khan just likes what their doing. Hell, Khan writes a lot of the Dynamite shows. He likes goofy shit too.

This was the plan until they realized that they weren't going to be able to hook casuals with that approach. If they ever want to get back over a million viewers they need the casuals.

Instead, they are morphing into a bad copy of WWE.
Look on the bright side you can always watch New Japan Pro Wrestling if you want the true sports based presentation.
The only comedy Wrestler I know in NJPW is Toru Yano and his stuff is light weight compared to what's going on in AEW. You won't see Stadium Stampede matches in New Japan or people teleporting or any other bullshit. NJPW is as close as it gets to a true sports based promotion.
