What Donald Trump did as coronavirus task force met and Wall Street plunged: President hosted actors playing the FBI lovers - then met Diamond and Silk and complained he isn't getting credit for 'incredible achievement'
  • While Vice President Mike Pence held his first coronavirus taskforce meeting and the stock market plunged, President Trump busied himself with other things
  • Trump met the playwright and stars of the play 'FBI Loverbirds: Undercovers' Thursday at the White House
  • Actors Dean Cain and Kristy Swanson play Peter Strzok and Lisa Page in the stage production
  • Trump invited black supporters to the White House including Diamond and Silk, Candace Owens and ex-'Grey's Anatomy' actor Isaiah Washington
  • At that meeting he called the country's response to coronavirus an 'incredible achievement'
  • Event came as Vice President Mike Pence chaired the first meeting of the taskforce on how to contain the coronavirus outbreak and the Dow had its biggest point plunge in history
  • Officials said 33 people had tested positive for the virus in California as of Thursday
  • The US' first unknown origin case was announced in Northern California Wednesday and the CDC was blasted for not testing the individual for four days
  • A whistleblower claimed health workers dealing with evacuated Americans held in quarantine in California did not have proper training or protective gear and were moved on and off military bases
  • The White House moved to censor health officials, banning them from speaking publicly about the crisis
  • The virus has now infected more than 82,000 people globally

Trump says he can bring in coronavirus experts quickly. The experts say it is not that simple.

Feb. 27, 2020 at 6:52 p.m. CST
The White House official charged with leading the U.S. response to deadly pandemics left nearly two years ago as his global health security team was disbanded. Federal funding for preventing and mitigating the spread of infectious disease has been repeatedly threatened since President Trump’s election.

Despite the mounting threat of a coronavirus outbreak in the United States, Trump said he has no regrets about those actions and that expertise and resources can be quickly ramped up to meet the current needs.
Former federal officials and public-health experts argue that an effective response to a epidemiological crisis demands sustained planning and investment. While the administration’s response to coronavirus has been criticized in recent weeks as slow and disjointed, people in and outside the White House have warned for years that the nation is ill prepared for a dangerous pandemic.

“You build a fire department ahead of time. You don’t wait for a fire,” said Tom Inglesby, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. “There is an underappreciation for the amount of time and resources required to build a prepared system.”

Officials at the White House and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention did not respond to interview requests.
Under pressure to step up the U.S. response to Ebola, President Barack Obama in 2014 appointed Ronald Klain, a veteran Democratic operative, to serve as an “Ebola czar.” The Obama administration also set up a special National Security Council team to oversee epidemic preparedness on a permanent basis.

The global health security team continued to operate during Trump’s first year in office, before John Bolton dismantled the unit when he took over as national security adviser in 2018. That led to the abrupt departure of its leader, Rear Adm. Timothy Ziemer, who had led the White House’s anti-malaria efforts under Obama and President George W. Bush. Ziemer is the senior deputy assistant administrator for the Bureau for Democracy, Conflict, and Humanitarian Assistance at USAID

Is there a doctor in the house? Mike Pence unveils the White House's coronavirus taskforce amid growing crisis and Wall Street plunge - with just FOUR medical experts out of 15 chiefs (and one of them isn't even there)
  • Pence convenes first meeting of official White House coronavirus taskforce Wednesday afternoon- after appearing at the conservative CPAC conference for a lengthy speech
  • Just four out of the 15 people on it are doctors, one of whom was named this morning and was not apparently at the meeting
  • Those on the taskforce include Larry Kudlow, the Trump economic adviser who earlier in the week said the U.S. was 'airtight' from the virus
  • Also on it is Ken Cuccinelli, the acting deputy Homeland Security secretary who had tweeted a complaint that he could not find a map of coronavirus' spread
  • As they met Wall Street saw the worst stock market sell-off since 2008 with the Dow losing almost 1,200 points and officially entering a 'correction'
  • Goldman Sachs warned U.S. companies could show no earnings growth this year because of the virus
  • In California, the state said it is monitoring 8,400 people for potential coronavirus infection and worldwide the death toll continued to mount
  • Pence has gagged all health officials from speaking in public about the threat of the virus without his prior approval, and instead he gave a pre-recorded interview to Fox News' Sean Hannity
  • And there was confusion over who is actually in charge of the taskforce with Pence saying 'I'm leading the task force,' but Azar would still hold the title of chairman - when Trump said Wednesday Azar was in charge
  • 25293682-8053577-image-a-50_1582842264385.jpg
  • Not a lot of medical expertise: Those at the table for the first meeting of the coronavirus taskforce are (clockwise from bottom left): Matthew Pottinger, deputy national security advisor; Keith Kellogg, Mike Pence's national security advisor; Dr. Robert Kadlec, assistant HHS Secretary, who is not on the taskforce; Mick Mulvaney, acting White House chief of staff; Ken Cuccinnelli, acting director of the Department of Homeland Security's Citizenship and Immigration Services; Jerome Adams, the Surgeon General; Alex Azar, HHS secretary; Mike Pence, the vice president; Dr. Tony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases; Steven Mnuchin, the Treasury secretary; and Brian Bulatao, the Department of State's undersecretary for management

On Thursday, stocks continued to freefall despite Trump's reassurance that there is nothing to see here. And can you blame people for freaking out? Instead of appointing, say, a public health expert to head of the federal response to the virus, Trump named Mike Pence, a man who believes that climate change is a myth, smoking doesn't cause cancer, condoms don't protect against STDs, and the world was created in six days by an invisible deity who lives on a cloud. Hilariously, Trump called Pence "very expert at the field" (he's not) and while Pence's plan has yet to be announced, I imagine prayer will be a significant chunk of it

Glitches in the CDC testing system have thwarted wide-ranging surveillance testing to track the disease and eliminate concerns about healthy people simply battling a common cold.

China currently has the capability to test 1.6 million people a week for COVID-19, and South Korea has already tested some 65,000 people, reported Science Magazine. As of Friday, fewer than 500 people in the U.S. had been tested, according to the CDC.

The CDC ignored World Health Organization testing guidelines to devise its own test. But several testing kits sent to states had inconclusive results, so most states had to rely on CDC analysis, creating a backlog, ProPublica reported.

“We’re weeks behind because we had this problem,” Scott Becker, chief executive officer of the Association of Public Health Laboratories, told ProPublica. “We’re usually up-front and center and ready.”

The CDC until recently also restricted use of the kits to suspected cases of COVID-19 among people who had traveled to China within two weeks of developing symptoms or who had been in close contact with someone with the illness.

'Jay Inslee is a SNAKE!' Donald Trump bashes Washington Governor and said he ordered Mike Pence not to compliment him during visit to state where 14 people have died from coronavirus
  • Trump lashed out at the Democratic governor of Washington on Friday
  • Called Inslee 'a snake' and said the governor wanted to 'take advantage'
  • Inslee, a harsh Trump critic, is managing the biggest US virus outbreak
  • VP Pence visited the state Thursday and vowed federal support for Washington
  • Trump says he warned Pence not to compliment Inslee during the visit

Trump speaks during a tour of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta

But Trump, wearing his 'Keep America Great' campaign hat while discussing the global worry, repeatedly detoured from his message of reassurance.
'It's an unforeseen problem,' Trump said of the virus. 'It came out of nowhere. We're taking care of it.'
The president, while touring the CDC, talked up his ability to understand the virus, although he has repeatedly misstated how long it would take for a vaccine to be developed and available.
'I like this stuff. I really get it,' Trump said. 'People are surprised that I understand it. ... Maybe I have a natural ability.'
He also suggested the accuracy of the coronavirus test was 'perfect - like the letter was perfect.'
With that, Trump was making a comparison to the July phone call with Ukraine's president that led to his impeachment. Trump, who was acquitted by the Senate last month, has insisted he did nothing wrong.
Before departing Washington, Trump signed an $8.3 billion coronavirus response funding bill at the White House and instructed the public: 'Be calm. It will go away.'
'We have very low numbers compared to major countries throughout the world. Our numbers are lower than just about
anybody,' Trump said about cases of the virus.

US hospitals are preparing for 96 MILLION coronavirus infections and nearly HALF A MILLION deaths, leaked documents reveal
  • Almost half a million (480,000) Americans are expected to die from coronavirus
  • 4.8 million will be hospitalized and 96 million infected
  • Figures come from leaked slides from a presentation by Dr. James Lawler, a University of Nebraska Medical Center professor and hosted by AHA
  • They show the spread of the deadly disease could be far worse than officials claim, with the crisis 10 times greater than a severe flu season
  • The shock figures fly in the face of claims made by President Trump who has maintained on many occasions that the risk to Americans is 'low'
  • Lawler estimated people with heart conditions have a one in 10 chance of dying from the disease, compared to less than one in a 100 among healthy individuals
  • Trump signed a spending bill to allocate $8.3 billion to tackle the crisis Friday
  • US has around 300 cases and 17 confirmed deaths, after Florida confirmed its first two deaths Friday

actually, he can.

The mastermind of this strain of the caronavirus is the head of the Lieber Research Group, which was already arrested (along with his assistants) by the FBI for their role in the creation of the virus.

 you fools hate trump so much that you totally dismiss everything he says, even when he tells the truth and drops gems that 5% of the time he does.

Trump officials unsure how many people tested for coronavirus
They also defended Trump's claim that anyone can get tested.

90

Top federal health officials on Saturday said they don't know how many people in the U.S. have been tested for coronavirus — or how many will need to be in the coming weeks.
The health officials, in an untelevised briefing at the White House, also defended President Donald Trump's claim on Friday that anyone seeking a test can get one, even as state officials voice frustration with the availability of tests

But frustration is growing among state health officials who say they do not have the tests needed as cases rack up in California, New York and Washington state. Meanwhile some people have taken to Twitter and Reddit to say they were turned away from testing because they did not have a clear link to someone already infected.

So they optimistic about the death rate? 500k is a lot of people, but damn if they were on that 3 percent death rate they'd be preparing for more bodies. Still a lot more than comparable flu cases. :smh:

the panic is coming because of the race(s) of the people getting infected and dying.

Those with the concern and panic are exposing themselves again. I’m not sure why there are so many captain save a whites on this forum.

shit, I’d be impressed if the Democratic President hopeful, Biden, could verbalize a paragraph worth of words without slurring or forgetting syllables.
@Watcher I was going to say something to the question you asked, but I can not give a better response than this one

I absolutely agree. Biden is a disaster on so many levels.

Trump is currently the president and is about to cost a lot of people their lives.

Today

I understand Xfactor response cause he believes Trump, that it’s all hype.

I disagree with how he's handling this but pretending any of our leaders, past or present, would do better when the source of the outbreak was NEVER truthful about the situation is a joke.

How many of his most vocal media critics do you think have self-quarantined and are avoiding public spaces like the experts they're using to point out his failures are recommending?

As recently as a week ago some of these same pompous asses agreed with him and said it was "just the flu".
