I don't think anyone honestly thought he would be convicted in the Republican controlled Senate. Sadly, this was more about proving that we have somewhat functional institutions still. This feels a lot like 2004 honestly which makes me pretty nervous. Your average voter is dumb as fuck and believed that a Purple Heart recipient was a traitor and a draft avoider was a patriot.

2) For better or worse, this process was not a wasted effort. The House did exactly what it was supposed to do (despite GOP fuckery) and followed the process. The GOP Senate which was already exposed to be self serving assholes have been further exposed as self-serving assholes. In the short term, that might mean nothing, but just ignoring them and your duty to try the President wouldn't have made any sense, either.
3) And I can't stress this enough: multi-tasking is a thing that almost every human can do. It is possible to follow this process and also be focused on the upcoming election(s).
The long and short is that the BGOL "do nothing crew" keeps wanting to make this narrative about people being up in their feelings when they aren't. IMO, they needed to get testimony under oath in a venue controlled by the GOP tho. That way it couldn't be called fake news or said that the dems hid info, forced witnesses or that it was somehow unfair. Bolton will probably speak out, but it will lack the legitimacy it would have if he had testified in the senate.

He has met with foreign enemies and conducted secret meetings with them without keeping any records of those meetings in violation of the law.
