HBO Series: Watchmen (2019) (drops 10/20/19) Thread

He knew he was going to get caught. He knew the only chance to save himself was Angela.
He knew he needed to set things in motion with hooded justice and presumably Lady Trieu.
He literally decided to potentially die for love.
Knowing what would happen to him he wanted to buy himself time. The one thing he had mastered. He wanted time to live and love and grow.

He zapped dude about to shoot Angela off of reflex. and then didn't remember doing it.

It's hard to top this type of television.

Superhero shows have a new bar. It's Olympic gold medal high and if you fall flat it'll be for the world to see.

It’s only 1 episode left. Has to be a reason 2. It’s hardly explainable if you do don’t know the story already

"Just watched Godfather 2. Has to be a Godfather 3. It’s hardly explainable if you don’t know the story already."

(Hint: There's another way to figure out the parts you don't understand.)

Not sure I buy the show's depiction of time. For instance, why Angela? The idea that he fell in love with her and picked her based on the end of their relationship only makes sense if he had infinite parallel relationships to compare her to, like Black Mirror's Hang The DJ. If this is just one experience and he is living time at every point, that still doesn't explain why he approached her initially.

Because he had to....

That's the whole purpose of the explanation of the paradoxes.

To Angela, its an unseen action that once she gets to that point, explains every action. The chicken or the egg, one has to beget the other.

To Jon/Cal, it's existence. He is both chicken & the egg.

Why did he "have to"? He's just a slave to "destiny" with no free will?

WAtchman

Greatest Black Science Fiction show of All time.

Nothing is even close to this.

And the greatest thing about it.. is that None of us saw it coming.
I had no idea the show was going to be this amazing. From the writing, to the Easter eggs I still won't get them all. From black man being God,I am in awe of the writing and wonderful acting in the show

D idea of time combined with his ability to see everything. He could see that he was just to fall in love with this woman.

It's her strength, her determination, and her willingness to risk it all to save him even though it was impossible.

You've never felt that way about someone? In godfather part 1 they spoke of the thunderbolt with Michael and Apollonia.

Michael was hit by the thunderbolt - a love at first sight, and unforeseen depth that is immediate and powerful. Being Doctor Manhattan, you could see her and see the present and the future.

Why her?. You can't explain it. Why does anyone pick anyone? It's just a certain je ne sais quoi, an IT, a stop you in your tracks moment that everything seems to Fall away

Nah, I think that's self-deluding fairy tale shit that confuses a mixture of lust and optimism with love.

I bet you've never felt that way about a paraplegic or obese person (unless you're that yourself and have adjusted your standards). No, "love at first sight" is always reserved for someone you aspire to fuck. And then in retrospect it is misrepresented with the benefit of hindsight. Do you know how many OJs and Nicoles claimed to be soulmates before time proved them wrong?

There are 8+ billion people in the world, there's no such thing as "the one."

Everyone who claims love at first sight is it experiencing love at first sight.

Think of it like this, people mistake feelings all the time. For example, the signal that you're hungry is often confused with the same signal your body says that you're thirsty. Often, you'll get a snack but it doesn't satiate you.

Why? Because you misinterpreted the message. He were thirsty, not hungry.

Love at first sight is often mistaken for lust. The two are very close, often misinterpreted, but very different.

Cal, aka Doctor Manhattan experienced love at first sight

Godfather one would be a better comparison as an example. Not a good one. But better than that

I see why Cal/Manhattan said this is the moment

...Angela tooled up like John Wick and was blasting CACs

I damn near fell in love
I haven't been all the way through this thread, did you do a stretched-out observations for every episode the way you did Game of thrones? If so, I'm going to need to go all the way through this long-ass thread

You're awesome for your contributions by the way

Why did he "have to"? He's just a slave to "destiny" with no free will?

Basically. He may be godlike but he is not a god. He is severely limited by his own lifespan.

Anything in relation to him is not free will, it has already occurred or occurring, depending on his perspective at the time.

Free will only exists in humanity’s limited view.

that whole conversation between Angela and John in the restaurant was awesome...great acting

i wonder why John allowed himself to be captured..was it JUST to save Angela?...... what's his plan.

I have the strangest feeling that he didn’t know she was gonna go G.I. Joe with it. I think he just knew the end result of being forcibly teleported.

No real proof, just a feeling in the back of my head...

He knew, that's why he pointed it out as the moment he fell in love with her even she was tooling up. This was the point he mentioned during their meeting.

Man, if Regina looked at me with those eyes and those lips, I'm giving her everything I have.

every "the one" is the one, ole love deficit ass nigga.
Angela cussing is both hilarious and sexy at the same time.

Might be the best episode of the series and the best love story I've seen told.
A deeply moving love story apexes as a shootout, complete with exploding heads. The emotional track never gives way to the action, though. In fact it's somehow amplified by it.

I haven't seen that before. Bravo.

She showed him the bodies and he was like you don't like that shit sis pick something you like

She did then he changed his voice like my bad my vocal chords loosened ive gained swag do you want me to change back?
