5TB Western Digital portable USB 3.0 HDD - $90

Not sure of this specific drive, but I'm through with WD portables.
Bought two within the last year. Both done.
Slightest bump in the road with those shits and it's over.

Not my experience but sorry to hear it.

For a drive this big I wouldn't really consider it portable. That's way too much data to put at risk IMO.
I have a couple of these that I use as redundant backups.

I'm gonna use mine for my PS4 so it won't be traveling anywhere unless I'm going to someone's house who doesn't have a game I downloaded.

You know, that's a good idea. How do you do that? I'd like to have more space for a couple of games and to backup the games already there. I don't want to upgrade the HDD inside the PS4 because the PS5 is coming soon.

I would normally jump right on this

but I have a EasyStore 4TB that just took

a shit on me a couple weeks ago.

It's a great deal but I don't need that

happening again.

From what I understand recent updates allow the PS4 to recognize up to 8TB. Just had to be a USB 3.0 drive that can be formatted

you must be dropping them.. the only time they fuck up like that...is if I move to the laptop

table and someone accidently knocks it off.. I solved that problem by just velcroing that shit to the table.. problem solved. Id rather go external harddirves all day, then store my shit in the cloud...

Drive usually sells for $170
Thanx …. copped two of them ...

The obvious solution being …. don't use easy store drives …. :dunno:
Never even heard of them ….It sounds like some dollar store shit ....

But you can only convert up to 2TB to FAT32. PS4 doesn't recognize the other format at all (I can't think of it offhand). Whatever the default format is for hard drives the PS3 won't recognize it

ME to. the port always ends up reading funny

ALWAYS run a scan of the drive BEFORE you start dumping data on it. I use HDTUNE to scan any drive I buy for errors. It's free and the pro version has a 30 day free trial.

Also, if you buy a WD drive, you can use their in house WD Diagnostics to scan the drive.

It takes a long ass time to scan big ass drives, but I guarantee you that most people who gave certain drives bad reviews didn't scan them for errors prior to using them.

Portable simply refers to the fact that it draws all the power it needs from the USB port. Moving any disc while it's spinning could damage it no matter the brand.

If you can't afford two similar drives (1 for storage and 1 as a backup), imo you shouldn't buy large capacity drives.

I agree with everything you said, especially the last part. The back up should probably be larger than the drive that you’re going to use.
