The funniest thing Umar said is that he can pay for construction materials but can't pay for labor. He actually had the balls to ask black construction companies to "donate" their labor for the school. This man has no shame in his game. What a ridiculous request. I guess the next request will be for black teachers to come teach at his school for free. Right. Trying to go full academy is a monumental task when it’s just you.
The videos I’ve seen of him never have anyone else that is on the same page as him. For example, if I was to start a school I’m going to have at least 3 to 5 credible people that is backing me 100% and can talk about my vision the same way I would.
But he’s burned a lot of bridges and worst of all... he’s created distrust. Now, his credibility is gone. Folks aren’t getting their money back. That’s not how donations work. When you donate, you donate in good faith and trust that the individual or organization your contributing to will use the money accordingly.
As you mentioned, he could have been using that time to get something small started. Let the people see you in action on a small scale. What he is asking for will take millions to do.

I can’t say he was never about his ambition to start this school. I just think his ambition was a much bigger task than he thought and reached a point of no return because his ego is too stubborn to admit he fucked up in multiple areas.
I definitely do not believe he started this thing with intentions to scam. I think he evolved into that once he seen that donation money coming in and realized that money could be used differently than it was originally for.

He’s an example of not everyone has the ability to lead a certain way. He may have leadership qualities, but uses those qualities for the wrong reasons.
I’m not even sure how he supports himself. Does he teacher anywhere or is he living off of people’s donations?
If that’s the case, then it’s only a matter of time before the IRS pays him a visit because I can imagine him paying taxes on the money that was donated. They are going to want to know where that money went.
