HARRIET Official Trailer (2019) "Harriet Tubman" Biopic Starring Cynthia Erivo (Looks Amazing!)

more slave shit with a negro spiritual score...

i am going to support but were and are more than slaves.
My thoughts as well. I’m going but I don’t wanna see it. Like Bomani Jones said “I don’t do recreational sadness”. I’m that way. Once I saw Roots as a kid I was done. I’ve seen other movies and documentaries since, but man. I left my boys crib during Django. My girl was like “You alright?” Nah man. I can’t watch us in chains. I just can’t.

exactly.

my parents raised me on roots, shaka zulu, eyes on the prize, etc...

we need better representation of us in the media.

Ill check it out. I understand you fellas above but I look at it a lil differently. I don't know all there is to know about slavery. 4D turned me on to that Goodbye Uncle Tom movie and my eyes were opened to many things.

I look at it like I'm open to understanding the sacrifices our people had to go through. Doesn't mean I have to dwell on it but then again when I fuck up I wanna think about the shit bec my dumb ass doesn't wanna do it again.

Every time I complain about simple shit realizing the suffering our people went through helps me realize how blessed I truly am.

Yeah this is my point.....

We constantly bitch about how things are, but sometimes we ignore what we went through...

Plus this is the first Bio picture about her.

Everyone thinks of the underground railroad.. but most people don't know about her work as a Scout for the Union during the Civil War.... a part of her life that this looks like it's going to be shown in this movie.

I will go see this one, Tubman was winning, through spirit, ingenuity and force. This "shouldn't" be a boot licking depiction (I hope). If you show us getting our ass beat, she better be killing some motherfuckers all throughout this movie.

If done right, this should be an all-time epic. I do wish a Black American female got that lead role though.

This is well said by BJ.

I understand they are trying to keep our eyes open but its just hard to watch. There are times when I'm with older family members ( Moms, Uncles, Aunts, etc) and they spit how things were back in the day with segregation, etc., and that shit is tough to listen too.

I don't know everything about her. One of the reasons I wanna peep it.

Exactly

The whole slave narrative is to reinforce black inferiority and White supremacy.

Have we ever seen a movie about the Barbary slave trade? I wonder why?

Much attention and condemnation has been directed towards the tragedy of the African slave trade , which took place between the 16 th and the 19 th centuries. However, another equally despicable trade in humans was taking place around the same time in the Mediterranean. It is estimated that up to 1.25 million Europeans were enslaved by Barbary corsairs , and their lives were just as pitiful as their African counterparts. They have come to be known as the white slaves of Barbary.

I think it was Sam Jackson that said the British/outside the US black actors get these roles because they're usually cheaper.

Btw this nigga playing detective as usual :roflmao:

Its not just that. The government gives kickbacks to Hollywood that uses British actors due to some trade agreement. There's a program where actors who arent citizens get special work visas to come to the states to do film. And yes they tend to be cheaper and since they dont have an emotional connection to ADOS, less push back in how they are asked to depict these roles. An ADOS in LA posted it on twitter breaking it all down a few weeks back. The casting is deliberate.

Great. So we'll be doing this now whenever a black movie comes out?

A negro who shames black folk to legitimatizing the Polights and Rizzas of the world should have no say.

Not every black movie but this one is alittle too personal. Btw she was horrible in Widows I heard she was good in that El Royale movie tho

its just another glaring example.... Oprah has endless money for Color Purple etc...

but no money for projects like this or Birth of a Nation none of the Gullah War stories or various stories of African heritage
or mythology
Bingo! Oprah, depends on WS for every crumb of her daily bread. Oprah would have been kicked to the curb long time ago if she had kids. There's no way WS would want the possibility of a young black person with money to change any portion of their system.

She did way more then the Underground Railroad..

She was like a Black Superhero..

Most kats don't even know that Harriet acted as a Spy for the Union Army during the Civil War and was the first woman to lead a armed expedition and raid....

My girl Harriet started as a Cook for the Union Army and worked her way up to the ranks..

She was part of the Combahee raid that lead to the freeing of 700 black slaves...

Yet we have dudes in here bitching about White Savors and Not trying to see the story of a Woman that has never had her story told on the screen..

Yet dudes... want to be all in the thread about the issues with her being put on the 20 dollar bill.

Man BGOL gives me a fucking headache sometimes.. fucking Ignorance is on full display.

How do we ignore what we went through when white people remind us every single day what we went through during slavery....

:confused::confused::confused:
