Adult children are costing many parents their retirement savings

They made these kids into pussies, followers, and drug attics... Remember the term buddah head ? If somebody smoked like 3-4 times a week you was looked as a druggie... Now these nigs smoke 3-4 times a day... Smoking and drinking was some weekend occasional s hit now these nigs drink pints and 5ths everyday... Getting puss Y was the epitome of a great day now these fag nigs rather hang with other dudes and avoid pussy... Pussy is way easier to get, so many money options out here, the tech is out of this world, so much info and network possibilities now, these kids are blowing it... These kids literally got cheatcodes out here and failing... I couldn't imagine having all this stuff at my fingertips at 18 yrs old... These kids can pick and choose the hours they want to work with some of these options out here... Deliver food to cacs whenever we want and make like 20 hr

Was a time you HAD to be on the streets to hustle ..... The cheapest cell phone can it done now .....

This generation never even attempted to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. I hate that phrase, but you got to try. There is a lot of crutches, but those are also seen in my generation.

I'm 42. A lot of guys in my generation never learn to be men. Many never moved out of their mother's home because there was no father to push them out.

Single mothers are less likely do push their sons out of the door, whereas there are fewer fathers who would allow they're grown sons to live at home without enforcing a ton of rules to make it uncomfortable for them. (10pm curfew and shit like that)

I rode the bus until I could afford to pay for a car. I didn't get my license until I was 27 years old because I rode the bus (I also had an SR22 forcing me to have insurance to get a license even though I had no car...cuz I got caught driving with no license, and that didn't expire until I turned 25.

The inability to balance their wants over their needs is the downfall of the millennials generation and even generation X

Maybe they dont because they realize how slanted the system is?

Also housing is huge. The cost of it is exploding everywhere. I remember when 1000 a month would get you something good in Atlanta. These days? You looking at damn near 2000 a month to be downtown, and that isnt even including education prices.

You cant leave home if you dont have the money.

Thats the problem right there .Why do u have to live downtown thats prime real estate

Because people want to live near their jobs, especially as job areas gain more and more population.

Sure, you can live in the burbs where housing is more affordable, but then you are making that up in car or uber prices. Especially in Atlanta now. Any type of Uber during peak hours means you are getting hit with the surge price. Its almost as expensive as owning a car at this point.

Nothing wrong with staying home but you can’t be home and be on your ass.. gotta get out there and diversify them bonds.. If you can’t do that then as a parent don’t pay for shit.. however don’t kick them on the street either...

"You stay in this house, you either gonna work, or go to school..." Thats straight out of every black parents handbook. You aint gotta leave, but you aint gonna be sleeping until noon and not doing shit to better yourself either.

Atlanta has a marta?
Get a damn hooptie

Marta actually is a very poor public transport system that very rarely gets you directly where you want to go. In the end you would end up ubering to a marta station, paying for the marta fare, and then ubering to your job location afterwards. Considering in Atlanta Uber has a flat fee of around 6$ it will add up just the same going short distances.

The market for hoopties is also down thanks to the cash for clunkers program which got a lot of cheap vehicles off the street.

It seems like boomers went out of their way to keep millenials in a very precarious situation.

Exactly. They have way more options to make money than we did. Also they grew up on the internet more immersed than we were and they still can't turn a buck.

Excuses. Go vote for Bernie, he'll get you right.

Who is “they?”

This generation never even attempted to pull themselves up by their bootstraps. I hate that phrase, but you got to try. There is a lot of crutches, but those are also seen in my generation.

Why do you think that is the case? Why do you they they don’t attempt or as head strong other “other” generations?

Its not an excuse if the vast majority of millenials are running into the same issue.

I mean there is no reason for schools to charge 50k a year during undergrad. You expect kids to come out school with the debtload of a ferrari to have a whip and housing covered? While also fighting with H1Bs for every decent paying gig around? Surely something has to give....hence the 40 year olds still living with mom.

We are talking about those that dont even go to school. Those that dont even get off the couch. "I'm 22, dropped out of everything and mad the world is passing me by" motherfuckas.

And the college industry is a RIP-off, I knew that 25 years ago. Many states are adopting the college during high school system. The last 2 years of highschool should be the first 2 years of college. One of my managers did that and she graduated from college at 19 (a few months shy if her 20th birthday).

We are talking two different sets of people. Circumstances in America have always been bad, especially for black folks. I'm talking about the unmotivated excuse makers...

Should’ve done a better job raising the kids.

The baby boomers might be the worst parenting generation we’ve ever seen.

I respectfully disagree. Sometimes we as parents do the best we can with what we have. I will say this. Many things I didn't know when I had my 1st son. Now i see things differently and oh well it is what it is.

Motivation to do well at some point has to come from the child themselves. We can have a billion dollars, give them the best mentors and send them to the best colleges money can buy but if they don't want it :dunno:

The Baby Boomers brainwashed those kids into thinking that a college degree was gonna save them, and looked down on the idea of their children getting trades.

....and now with the accumulation of student loans, it's coming back to bite them in the ass.

Not many Trades left. Unions have been on the decline for at least 30 years. Robots and machine learning are going to rid of more non-skilled/ low skilled jobs in the next 10 years than they have in the last 25. Cabbies and Truckers will be feeling the pinch soon. The only good news in all of this is our population is declining. Despite current attitudes about immigration in Saltinenation, we will still need immigrants to round out the workforce in addition to Robots. There will be growth in the tech sectors required to support all AI Automation. Of course, that type of education will come at a cost. Free college or greatly reduced college education has to become a reality. You can't have a nation of folks saddled with debt at the dawn of there adult lives. You can't build any wealth that way. Next, to school loans, the biggest culprit to keeping young folks at home is the wage gap. As long as the minimum wage is too low all wages will be lower than they should be.

A nation of folks saddled with debt will always create wealth for somebody. Especially if those debts can be passed on through generations without being discharged by bankruptcy. That's the reason we won't see real change anytime soon.

Instead, we need to prepare our young people to treat a student loan with the same due diligence they would treat a business loan.

If your 18 year old walked into a bank and said "I want a loan to open up a laundromat because somebody told me you can make a lot of money that way." They would be shown the door before all the words got out of their mouth.

However, your 18 year old can get a student loan on that same flimsy basis with no problem.

it's very unlikely that the government will ever address this discrepancy so we need to.

First question I encourage my own children to answer is "is this something you could see doing 24/7?" Getting a degree is a 24/7 occupation and sometimes a genuine interest is the only thing that'll get you through the tougher parts of it. Without that interest you're more likely to flunk out, drop out, or switch majors. Things that can push your loan into the stratosphere.

Why would they give an 18 yr ole with no credit and no collateral a business loan?

Too many crutches along with a shitload of excuses

My mother got on my last motherfucking nerve. There was no way in hell I could have live there even if I didn't go to the military. Once I got out, I made sure to have my place to stay

Now I punked out and didn't go to college after I got comfortable in my position at work considering the money I was making, but still I make good money, I pay my own bills and I love the freedom of my life.

If you could live at home with moms, fuck broads, smoke weed and do all this without moms giving you any shit it's heaven for a lazy ass. It's the man's equivalent to why buy the cow when you're getting the milk for free

My mom not coddling me (maybe cuz I was the rebellious middle kid) was the best thing to happen to me.

When you talk about them, they, this generation are some of you talking about your own offspring? cause 99% of the time that's where it starts it's ok to say you have a lazy kid, especially if their over the age of 18,the real world won't ever be as kind as you are.

Speakin on the single mom shit

Some women treat their children like friends instead of children.

Shit is so fuckin lame, I see it all the time on Sm and real life.

One chic I know calls her nef son, I’m like of that’s your kid? Na it’s my siblings.

So again I say is the mom around or what, yeah she is. Wtf

It ain’t your damn son, it’s your nef. And both women baby that nigga like he’s a todler.

They pay his bills, even give him money so he can turn around and smoke weed.

Nigga has no drive none, leaves school.

Just a big ass child.

A lot of these young kats can’t get a trade because they done smoke themselves into not being able to get hired.

And I can’t stress enough that being self employed requires a very particular mindset. Two kind of people in this world. Leaders and followers and there are more followers than leaders because not everyone has the ability to lead.

For me, starting this non profit organization took a lot of personal mental reconstruction to get this thing rolling. And I can’t tell you how much fear this shit is causing me as I move forward. I consider myself a bright dude, but running a business is way outside my personality mainly because I feel like I can do anything as long as I focus. That leads to trust issues when I have to delegate tasks.

But you found a way. There are many that are/were in similar positions as you that just doesn’t have the ability to overcome that type of situtation.

You can’t pull yourself up by the bootstraps if you don’t have the ability to. Abilities can be learned, but I have found that with humans most things are learned through great suffering. And suffering can range from abuse to a close and personal death.

What you're saying is dumbshit. WE have plenty of Electricians and home builders and frankly, that kind of work is often seasonal. Not to mention when the economy takes a downturn these guys are often the 1st ones without work. While we will always need Electricians, Carpenters and other trades those areas aren't exactly growth areas.

If people can't afford houses they stop building houses. Given a choice between a Trade and a good college education especially in tech anyone that can, should go with tech. Better money and more opportunities I have known plenty of tradespeople who have been laid off or had intermittent employment over the years. Now if that's what a kid wants to do then so be it. The world needs Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters etc. Just not as many as it needed 40 years ago. The Robots are coming...
