I left home at eighteen, join the military and have been on my own ever since. My brother is two years younger than me oh, and it's still living with my mother at 40 years old. He's working, but he smokes most of his money away and still doesn't have a car (he and my mom share a car)

I agree that you can't just put your kid out. I also agree that you can't let them stay home and do nothing either.

I have a friend who lets her kids stay at home as long as they're in school. They pay her rent, lights and food. The money designated for rent she puts in an account that she will give to them when they're ready to move out.

She tells them that her home is not a motel. Do not be bringing your hoes or dudes (she has son and daughter) up in my house to fuck. There's no fucking in this house except by me. If the person you're fucking can't afford a room you probably shouldn't be fucking them.

Now, hes doing well for himself and his understanding of the world has drastically changed for the better. What I love about him is his honesty, he thanks me for being there for him but also being hard on as him as well.

Getting a college degree was a great way to find a leg up back when less than 20% of people had one. Now that nearly half of all adults have at least a bachelor's it doesn't mean as much. Especially now that the cost of school is way higher than it used to be.

Working your way through a company used to be a good way to get a leg up. Very few companies function that way anymore, especially now that union membership is at an all-time low. generally speaking, when a company sees that you're good at working a counter, sweeping a floor, or stuffing envelopes they tend to keep you there.

At this point getting a trade or starting a business is the best way to make a life for yourself. The problem is that most parents don't have any experience to pass on. School certainly don't teach or encourage these lessons either.

What you're left with is a generation of young adults who have jumped through all of life's hoops only to find more hoops. once they've gone through this madness long enough it's no wonder that some of them become disillusioned and unambitious.

As for the parents, it's hard to prepare your kids for hard times when you grew up during America's greatest prosperity.

It's not really black or white anymore in regards to career paths. You really have to teach kids about multiple streams of income and the value of money/resources at an early age.

I did the same thing with my Pops. I didn't realize what he was trying to do until I was around 23-24. I apologized for being a hard headed teen and thanked him for what he tried to teach me earlier. I use that experience to tell my teenager that he won't "GET IT" until he is older, but the life lessons I am beating him over the head with is for his benefit.

I'm proud of my daughter too. She's in community college getting her sign language interpreter certificate. Takes 2-3 years and costs less than $20k. Family and I have chipped in to help so her loans will be minimal if any.

It's not prestigious, but it is a field with high demand. Also one that's relatively easy to freelance.

Student loans and college are the first issue. Broke ass kids coming out more in debt with no job for the BS degrees they are getting. Colleges offer too many degrees that don’t pay shit or won’t be useable in the future. Lazy kids are going to college and choosing easy degrees that, once again, are worthless. Students default on then loans so the parents pay them ontop of their own bills. Lot of parents mortgaged the home for dumbass kids who dropped out, took a shit major, or want to take a year off to find themselves.

Secondly, we all should know if our seeds are college material. Face it, you know you have a lazy, dumb or hoe ass child before you co-sign for all them loans.

My good friend is all fucked up. Her husband died just as both kids were starting college. She got a good job but she pays all the bills, has student loans for both kids, both life at home because they went to college in town. Fast forward, the son graduates and moves overseas with his Asian girlfriend and doesn’t take a job in his field. Next, her daughter decides she wants her masters. Another 80k at least. One job, mortgage, two kids and countless loans. All from trying to do the right thing.

Robots will do most job in 10 years or less.
